'Whitegoods on wheels' - unenthusiastic motoring - boring
Highly undesirable for most
Jeremy Clarkeson might suggest you don't even bother getting a licence, as there is so little interest in motoring...

I saw that in today's Herald Sun, also saw one going for the same price on Carsales but with 30,000km on the clock.

Anyone stupid enough to buy one of those things fails epically, let alone at that ridiculous price. One of the poorest made and most dangerous cars ever sold in this country. A lot of young blokes have died behind the wheel of a VN..

Yeah that's where I saw it, but I figured it was easier to post up the link rather than scan the paper.

Agreed, but there aren't too many cars from that era that can be considered 'safe'.

I just witnessed a VN doing doughies across the road, actual decent spins, also redlined away. It still had stockies on the back and alloys on the front but apart from that and legalities, win?

Driver error. Why blame the car? I regularly drove 'dangerous' VNs as part of my mechanical work nearly a decade ago and am still alive.

What about the blokes who spend 30k on doing up their EAs. Lol.

My sister-in-law, a nurse (enough said), simply won't consider buying any car unless it has a minimum of six airbags.

She's "disappointed" that our youngest sons new little Suzuki Alto has only two airbags, and says that our other sons Aurion is "barely adequate" with four. Our G6E is "pretty good", but she is absolutely horrified that our beloved 1982 Celica has, well, bugger all air bags and no anti lock brakes.

As for what she thinks of our 1957 Morris Minor, well...

The VN was a perfectly safe car that met or exceeded the standards at the time...it was truly a revolutionary car at the time for Australia. In a similar fashion, the EA was a simply huge jump from the previous XF Falcon, yet both the EA and the VN are probably both seen as horrifyingly unsafe cars today.

Different times...

I was driving with my mate today who has a VN.

His speedo read 50, I was driving next to him with my speedo reading 60
If they ever bring in 1kmh tolerances. Well good luck with that.

His speedo read 90 while I was behind him reading 100-105.

Mt. Barker (SA) McDonalds last night.
A late 80's/early 90's Ford Laser with a black bonnet and boot, big aftermarket spoiler painted black or blue (couldn't tell) car had numerous dents, was cheaply painted orange on all other panels except boot, bonnet and front bumper. I could see that the car was originally white - I believe it was painted with brushes LOL.
Had a massive cannon exhaust, sports steering wheel and was full of young, drunk guys.
It had HEAPS of dents, oh and of course - stockies on the FRONT (seems they were smart enough to realise its a FWD car).

I parked next to it in the XR6 - should've seen their faces, they acted like my car was the crap one

I couldn't get a pic (for obvious reasons) but god I laughed my balls off.
I was listening to Machine Head on the way in, they were sitting in the car park blasting dance music.
VERY COOL!

Btw, in regards to "Camry lovers".
My sister has a 1989 Camry, in many ways it is superior to most falcons (i'm talking up to the current models - reliability wise it kills my brother's BAII).
She loves her car as it has never let her down, doesn't use a heap of fuel and is cheap to get parts for.
I actually have a fondness for that car, IMO Toyota really knew what they were doing in the mid-late eighties.

I was actually looking for an SV21 Camry wagon in manual six months ago, they don't interest me as far as my car loving goes and I don't think they're a "cool" car but you can't deny they are a dependable, *cheap* car.
Unfortunately none came up that ticked all of my boxes (wagon, manual, air con, straight body).
Many came up with aircon/straight body/wagon but I don't see the point in a 4 cylinder car if its not manual.

EDIT: My sister will be getting a Toyota Soarer soon, I have no doubt it will make my XR6 look like a piece of crap in comparison.
I have no doubt the Soarer will out perform it but I'm fairly sure I'm going to be working on the damn thing all the time for her.
Japanese = technology
Technology = more kws, less fuel consumption, more stupid problems.

It was hard to get the photo so you can clearly see the lettering on the rear of the VT - so here it is for those that can't define the badge

Can't tell if that Torry is an original LX SS but the flares were factory on a couple of models and that looks close enough to the factory tyre width they came out with.

I really don't know. It was Matt Black all over with sikaflex holding on the kit. So I guess unless you're able to look at the compliance plate it is an unknown. The other fail in this was the condition the car was in. The view from the side on was a sight to behold

Personally I think the fact that the Torrie has survived 35 years on the road and still going is a win.

Not only that - you can see by the backdrop that the picture was taken in Cairns so surviving 35 years is a double win...
