We had a look over a omega ve on Tuesday driven by a insurance assessor what a ugly car, they look better in the pics.
There was also 4 mechanics looking at this car as its the 1st one they had seen in there shop..
Coments were has any noticed how far forward the front wheel is (looks bad) and how far back the rear wheel is the turning circle on this car wouldn't be so good.
The doors are huge...
The assessor said it was very thirsty on fuel lucky to get 350klm to the tank, he cant understand why the battery is in the boot, he said many that get a smack in the boot will put acid all the way down inside the quarter, there is plenty of room under the bonnet.
Also having troubles locking the central locking the dealer isn't to sure how to fix it yet they told him to bring it in and they will play with it.
He gave the car the thumbs down and said lucky its just a company car.

VZII is much better car.......

Holden with the VE is exactly where Ford were with the 02 BA........

The battery has been relocated into the boot to distribute mass weight more evenly.. And it has worked.. the SS has a near 50/50 weight distribution for front and rear wheels

Front wheels are further forward because it greatly improves handling and corner speed... that is somthing I appreaciate...

rear wheels are further back to reduce oversteer while cornering... other things that have been change to improve the handling of the VE are as such,
Motor is pushed further back and is lower in the engine bay.... again this greatly improves the ability for the VE to change direction quickly and hold higher corner speed

The fuel tank is now located infront of the rear axel... againg the will reduce oversteer when exiting a corner and will also incress corner speeds.....

overall the simple SS commy will smash the FPV GT and F6 on the track. and mark my words, when the HSV R8 is put up against the F6 for a bit of trackwork, it's going to be a blood bath.... F6 will have no chance....... Even a F6 with suspension and shocks for the track will not be enough to be for the HSV R8........

Very disapointing..... But true

Everything you have stated is true based on what Holden have claimed and they may well be correct. Despite all this the F6 was actually reasonably quicker on the track that the VE SSV when MOTOR tested them recently. The VE HSV GTS I suspect will be another matter altogether.

Are you sure about that?

The BA was the best thing australia seen for its time but the VE is better again.

Id definately consider a VE if i was buying a new sedan tomorrow, specially if i was after a V8.

I'm taking a VE Calais away in December on a 1000km+ trip, I'm going to set the trip take pics of start and Finnish fuel and a pad of my trip.
I'll be making my mind up fully on the engine tranny ride and comfort then.

Well if the F6 did beat the SSV on the track, that is good.... But I am going to hate to see the result of a GTS vs F6 contest.....

Also note, I have not at this point read any car magazines or anything about the VE, except for what is on this VE thread..... My opinions and thoughts come from test driving a VE SS, and I did take it to the limit on some of my favorite corners, just to compare it to my ute and a F6 that i have also had the pleasure of fanging though the corners with....

Corner speeds through a big loop....

my au xr8 ute 120klm (stock suspension)
my ba xr8 ute 105klm (highly modded suspension) Very nose heavy....
F6 sedan 125klm (stock suspension)
SS Commodore 125klm (stock suspension) The SS felt like there was more left in it, but being an unfamiliar car, I was unwilling to push it any harder....

I agree with Bluehoon's comment above, of course the brand new body is better than what Ford could do with BA but many other aspects Holden is just catching up.

I believe this is due to a stuff up not by intent, although the benefits are there along with disadvantages. If the next model comes out with the battery back under the bonnet you will know it was a stuff up!

the economy of these things is on par with BA too..... 350-400 km;s per tank city...... Yukky.....

Well, Holden can put the battery in the boot, wow, they must have just learnt that one, and yeah they moved the engine back and lowered somewhat....But it's still a Commodore, same alloytec V6 nugget, and the 6.0 litre v8 come on....fuel guzzler...The F6 would smash it and its only a 4.0litre with a hairdryer....

I ran a VZ HSV clubby watteva, in my stock as balls XR6t BA mk1 with a T5, and I beat him, i was just as shocked as he was.........6.0litre pffff

Dont kid yourself on what facts and figures Holden puts out, put the 2008 Falcon (when it comes out) and then compare and run and track the 2. Ford has a better based platformed car than Holden has since the release of the BA. Ok, it has issues but I can live with them, what Holden is perfect, NONE!! I wouldnt rate Holden for anything, they're overpriced for what you get. XR6t is best bang for buck...And never have looked back...I reckon the Toyota Aurion GT/Sportivo/TRD enhanced(supercharged model) would shame a VE v8.... :

I live in Liverpool and work in Blacktown and average almost 500km/ tank and thats with occasional ''Thrashing'' and 'Squirts' and goin out. And I think mine is running a bit rough, idles rough...Hmm maybe its not after all

Must be good for a stock xr6t BA mk1 with a t5

My car does 400-450km to a tank, Thats wrong on the VE and i will prove it very soon.

Where you been? The 6.0lt in the VE has already done the F6. And the 6.0lt in the HSV isn't the same as the one in the Holden range.
And think about it, If it takes the Performance turbo from FPV too beat a Sporty model built by holden and not HSV you know there in trouble.
Your really making a fool of yourself with them comments. Just because it's a ford forum doesn't mean you need to be blind.

Hey I friggin hate commos but I got to drive an SS last week and I'd have to say I was VERY impressed. The steering feel and road feedback are exceptional. It really gives a great feel through the seat and has very possitive steering response. It was a pleasure to drive. (please dont hate me!!!!! I really can't believe I would eva say anything good about a commodore eva) Compared to the heap of **** vz these things dont seam too bad. The gear changes on the auto were friggin awesome too, almost undetectable, whether it be light throttle or full noise changes the auto impresses me alot and the engine torque limiting technique they use to create these shifts is perfect. I also really liked the seating position. Its one of the only big sedans I have drivin lately that I actually felt comfortable in. I still reckon that Ford put the steering wheel in the wrong spot on my BA I find it very hard to find a spot that i'm truely comfortable in.

So hate me if ya must (I sometimes hate myself for likin a commodore so much) but I reckon that they have got the ball pretty close to the mark with the VE.

I saw a group of young guys (couldn't of been much older than me) with a VE GTS. I would give my left nut for one of those things on looks alone. The VE is a very nice car indeed, bar Omega. After seeing a few Omegas in the flesh, I concur they do look awful but then again it is a base model after all.

Did you know they moved the position of the driver too more centre of the steering with the BA. Because you sound like my brother he has trouble getting the seat steering right and when he does someone drives it and it's out. I told him the BA was moved more centre with the steering and he was shocked.

Yep, some of the early BA recalls were supplier related. One or two Holden recalls isn't worth ya-hooing about.
