That’s shameful, that we should be importing such basic tools.

The smell of tonight's meal in the slow cooker, wafting through the house... New York rib eye + veg.... will do a gravy from the juices later & steam some green beans....

Almost everything there is made in China.

Last moment need of a plastic watering can, with no hardware stores in sight, left with no option I popped into the Regect Shop. Only 10lt can left on the shelf. "Made in Australia" $10 winner, winner.

Little bit of butter and thickened cream to the pan juices for a yummo gravy.

Asked as to why i dont go for a lazer line. I used to do service work in functioning offices. You cannot be running lazers in places that regular people are in because of pubic liability. Mark the floor with tape, plumb it up. Results. Realistically, the process for doing a row of downlights was measure and mark the floor with tape for the first and last. Plumb them up, a screw in the 1st and last, builders string between both pulled taught. Measure and mark the rest along the string. Not that difficult. Also, apart from running lazers in areas that arent dedicated building sites, a string stung between 2 screws in the gyprock cannot be knocked like a lazer line can be if its on the ground and throw things out.

Stepping away from the old school methods of doing things right, i chucked another roast on a stick and its rotating on my bbq. Just a small unit, 800 and something grams. So ill give it 40 minutes at 180°. Looking aint cooking. So at 40 minutes ill inspect. Its another onion and garlic rump.

Had my visitor drop in again today, this time out the front.

Was very tame. Wouldn't quite let me touch it. Became very skittish when close and I moved at all. But eventually came up to me and took the bit of sausage I'd grabbed out of the fridge.

We had a bit of a chat, but it must have got bored of me not feeding it and took off.

We should start up a 'magpie appreciation' thread

I think Poppa is checking you out. I can see you having a family of young Maggies popping in on you in the near future. Momma will bring them around for a feed. Last lot we looked after we named Yamma, Qauka and Susie. All had slight variations in their markings.

When they want food, you'll understand the names.

Work was called off today due to the weather so I spent the morning driving up the coast watching the storm from the comfort and warmth of my car.

Eh? So the outside was good as it was the marinade. So a nice outer. The inside was very even. Id say a good medium. Still moist, but i prefer a little more life left in it.
Main reason being, i dont eat it all in one sitting and dont want to kill the rest re heating it.

Must say, I tend to agree. To much heat on the outside while steaming the inside.
I get some might like the meat "blue" but it does look a little to rare imo.
Another half hour at a lower temp would have been good.

Fair enough, a little tweaking & you'll get it just right.... only way to learn!'

Thats why i like the slow cooker, as can be a little more forgiving.
Still takes trial & effort depending on the weight & cut, but with the price of meat i try & make it as fool proof as possible.
Cant beat all in one pot cooking in my books.

Not so much today but Tuesday. I was off crook and then a banner popped up on the news.

Ayman al-Zawahiri killed by precision strike over the horizon.

Kids these days don't know the significance of this and I even forgot about it, but those of us around in 2001 and before know this **** was Bin Laden's right hand man and well known to be a planner of 9/11 if not the architect . I'm seriously thinking that the Taliban could have dropped a dime on him to curry favour with the US.

Anyways **** him to the moon and was glad to see the news

Theres a few trains of thought towards gas bottles for bbqs. Theres the pour hot water on the side and work it out from there, theres the tip it and work it out from there. Both were my dads methods to justifying not getting a second gas bottle.
Im too cheap to get swap and gos. But have 2 gas bottles. One ran out. Swaped it out. Finished what i was cooking. Theres not too many places that refill gas bottles, but $22.50 i dont reckon is too bad for a 9kg bottle of bbq juice

Getting you own bottle filled is getting harder all the time, with more places going swap n go.usually the swaps a $22-25 are pretty good because you don’t have to worry about out of date bottles.Don't know about other places, but Bunnings here never check dates on changeovers.BCF do fills for the same price as Bunnings but they are pretty savage on checking dates and bottle condition

Have been working a lot of hours lately, pushing hard and skipping or having short breaks to get things done. I'm tired. Accidentally sleeping till 10.30am this morning felt good, I guess I needed it.

And after getting rained out on a job, a long hot shower was nice too.

In a queue of 2 or 3 people this morning to buy a newspaper at IGA but their card reader went on the blink; no cash on me; put the paper back, went outside and a bloke who had been in there to buy a paper offered to buy one for me. He was holding a paper, probably the Herald Sun, and might have been going to offer it to me. I thanked him, but said I would get one (The Age - I try very hard not to contribute $ to that American scumbag Murdoch) at the petrol station just up the road. It was a very nice gesture from him. (must always take some cash with me in future)

Congratulations on your purchase but I think you will find most vehicle prices have skyrocketed.
I'm in the process of figuring out what I want for my last vehicle before I retire and I do know I will be paying a premium price which every way I go.
