Why is it that the English language especially written is falling apart??

Why don't supposedly educated people know the difference between simple words like

there, their, they're

bought, brought

here, hear

have, of ..... (this one especially has me stuffed, people using 'of' instead of 'have' seems to be the norm these days. as in 'I could of gone to the beach' instead of the correct 'I could have gone to the beach.)

lose, loose

no, know

whole, hole

etc etc etc

It annoys me that kids are learning Japanese and various other languages at school, yet struggle with basic English and Mathematics.

The education system seems to be based around the use of computers so there s no incentive to teach the basics.Link this with pre emptive wording on computers and phones and the result quite often is nothing like the intended wording

You'll probably find that the full stop should've been a comma, leaving the 'as' correct and the punctuation as the error

If so the comma should have been placed after 'in' just before the quotations.

There is also a full stop missing from your sentence.

I wasn't correcting the whole post, only the correction but if you want to get technical, using ' as quotation is also incorrect, " is correct. Additionally, your post requires a , after 'in' and before just, a comma is also required after "so" and before "the" at the beginning of your post.

My post was tongue in cheek.

But;

Quotations

American style uses double quotes (“) for initial quotations, then single quotes (‘) for quotations within the initial quotation.

“Economic systems,” according to Professor White, “are an inevitable byproduct of civilization, and are, as John Doe said, ‘with us whether we want them or not.’”

British style uses single quotes (‘) for initial quotations, then double quotes (“) for quotations within the initial quotation.

‘Economic systems’, according to Professor White, ‘are an inevitable byproduct of civilization, and are, as John Doe said, “with us whether we want them or not”’.

The above examples also show that the American style places commas and periods inside the quotation marks, even if they are not in the original material. British style (more sensibly) places unquoted periods and commas outside the quotation marks. For all other punctuation, the British and American styles are in agreement: unless the punctuation is part of the quoted material, it goes outside the quotation marks.

Enough on how to speak English properly. My mum was a teacher and her dad was a principle who wrote a book on all that kind of gear so I'd get nailed as a kid saying me and him or whatever. It was always he and myself. Back on track. Why is it the guys I work with in their early to mid 20's have no man sense? I'm only 30 but seriously. I'm not going to get into the first 3 rounds of the captain obvious mistakes 2 of the guys (1 no longer works where I work anymore..) made. In ground bucket lights. Pretty simple. Dig a hole. Sit the bucket in. Mix up.some concrete and concrete it in. Chuck the dirt back in around it and put the light in. Sounds simple and its common sense. I had to fix a stuff up today. The bucket was upside down. So an offsider and myself started digging expecting to hit concrete then to break that up. We only came across a soft patch of powdered quick set. The bag of concrete was poured around the upside down bucket dry. Even my kid knows you put water in to make concrete yet 2 grown men just poured in the powder. Man sense is a slowly dying pre requirement for anything.

Too much to read, you win.

6 Foot Fishing rod and matching reel...also included photos and detailed description

First question was 'How long is the fishing rod?

Enough about that, I have a long dark driveway so I don't have those issues, but today I went to my electrical wholesaler to actually do electrical work for the branch and I parked my trendy (useless ) diesel which I am not a fan of in front of the charging station for electric cars. I copped no backlash but what the devil is a bluetooth app that enables a charging station when the app is connected to your bank account. It's either bluetooth or a qr code but I'm yet to see a ute or van that's all electric.

Hopefully that proves to you that 'common' sense isn't automatically handed out to everyone with a sausage, and by extension, is sometimes given to those without a sausage.

When men get it wrong it's because they ****ed up. When women get it wrong it's because they're a woman! Be good to the women in your life!

Why is it when they talk about weight issues it is commonly said "overweight or obese"?

http://www.smh.com.au/national/healt...23-gzrfks.html

Why can't they split these in the respective categories?
