Like when you go from a Toyota Prado to a 200 series Landcrusier, it feels so much bigger inside and it’s only a small difference in width. Makes a huge difference to people with a family of kids

Exactly.
It’s really hard for the mainstream manufacturers because they want to sell both mid sized and full sized pickups
the truth is probably that a suitably widened Ranger covers most needs in international markets.

I am cautious that a 50mm increase in track does not automatically translate to a
50mm wider vehicle or an extra 50mm wider hip and shoulder room but I hope it does….
The important part with that is NG Ranger’s squarer body and more filled out look gives me hope…

Arnt the doors carry over? That would mean the cabin width is unchanged?

No body part is carryover. Some minor suspension and bits and bobs they have said.

The entire roof, glasshouse and door frames are carryover no matter what Ford marketing spins about them all having “different part numbers”.

They were even gracious enough to release a press photo of the new one parked in exactly the same position as the old one. Take note of the panel gap where A pillar meets the front guard near the mirror and also the hipline above the rear door handle on the c pillar.

Personally I’m surprised that the haters haven’t picked this and run with it. Do I think it’s nice? Well, it’s not bad looking, but I hate the fact that it’s been made to look like a big, dumb American truck. My next work vehicle will probably be a base New Defender 90 with steelies, because I’m sure the V6 Wiltrak will be up at $75k now.

Seeing as the doors would be the biggest retooling part on the car It would make (economical) sense to carry on using the old ones.

So word is the Raptor gets the 3L Ecoboost.

Power wise we're basically looking at an FG turbo.

Should be good, competitors have nothing in comparison.
This will be like Holden in 1999 with the LS1.

Same engine in the Explorer runs high 13s, Ranger being heavier probably do mid 14s.
Much quicker than all the dual cabs at the moment which struggle to do 17s.

It’s interesting that the track is 50mm wider and the front wheels pushed
forward by 50mm and yet both those picture still look amazingly similar
in the areas you pointed out (lower front guard meeting front door).

Looking closer, the wheel arches on the PX3 have been replaced by a
squarer outcrop on the front guard, I’m looking at where that meets the
door, does that mean the door is out further or is that an optical illusion?
(Similarly, back door where it meets the tray….)

When you say that the front screen is squarer, does that mean the roof is slightly wider?
Because it looks a littler wider to me although I’m often wrong about these things….
Also, tumblehome looks slightly less….

The pictures posted show it is squarer along the top of the windscreen.

Regardless I know the current Ranger has a single piece door skin, and a single piece door inner ( integrated with the window frame ).

Seperate frames went out a long time ago.

There is no way those assemblies are carry over into the new Ranger (looking at those pictures above).

I’ll take the Ford ‘spin’ as worth listening to on this particular subject.

Considering a current model 2.0 Wildtrak is $73650 retail, I think it is a given the V6 will be $75000.

That’s mental that they went up so fast. I paid $55k DA for mine brand new. Crazy. Really brings the thing into a different league.

The front windscreen is squarer.

These are not massive changes, but they ARE different and NOT carryover ( and require new tooling for the roof, doors, and glass ).
Mate, you can’t tell me I’m wrong unless you worked on engineering it. Otherwise your opinion holds as much water as mine. There’s a interview with Carsguide where that dck head James Dowling asks one of the engineers about the windows, roof and glass and the engineer ducks and weaves the question like a politician who’s been accused of corruption.

Door frames are likely the same. The sheet metal on top is likely stamped differently. I’ll concede that.

Further to this, I ask you - If Ford changed the glasshouse and roof and door frames, why would they make them look near identical? Why also would the engineer give sideways answers like “the part numbers are different” if they had nothing to conceal? Wouldn’t they flat out say that no, it’s a completely new design and any similarities are just coincidence?

The car looks fine and I’m sure it’s great but don’t try to tell me flat out that those windows and roof line aren’t the same.

Ford have a long history of ALL NEW models with reused bits from old ones, FG falcon Ute tail gate for example with US Explorer tail light units, XH falcon utes with side stamped panels from the 70’s etc etc. They love it.

I really hope the cabin is a bit wider. I drone my px2 ranger today and couldn’t wait to get out of it. Seats are atrocious and the ergonomics are not much better. I hope VW bring their knowledge of how to lay out a car interior

If the deliver the same shortcuts as the current I’ll buy the last of the current amarok

Never mind……

One look at the two vehicles side by side will confirm that they are very different unless you’re blind Freddie
Rest assured that everyone will be crawling over the new Ranger, nothing is the same…

Vw had input in their version. And on their renderings you can also see differences to the ranger

They also had engineers there for 2 years so I’m sure they would have pushed ford on some items

I suspect that was an imprecise response to Raptor getting 3L Ecoboost…..That now seems very unlikely.

I’m happy in the knowledge that Ranger is getting right engines in the main product areas:
2.0 single scroll base engine with manual and 6-speed automatic
2.0 Twin scroll mid level engine in manual and 10-speed automatic
3.0 V6 Powerstroke option on trim levels with 10-speed automatic only

The question is whether the Raptor will come with a different tune for more power,
the privileged few already know the answer but I have a feeling that little hints
will start appearing as we get closer to the reveal…..

Perhaps someone can take us on a journey from what we already know to the unknown…….

No, just a big mouth that no insider will ever trust again.
Im happy to know a few things that others share on the forum,
if you follow closely, you’ll pick things up from certain posters…..

Sometimes I have to bite my tongue really hard when posters (not you)
start arguing with people (not me) they assume know nothing….

I predict the 2.7 ecoboost V6 will go in the Raptor.
I base this on it’s specs and previous applications.
I don’t think they would stick the 450 horsepower 3.5 in it as I think they would want to separate it from the F-150 Raptor.
In the F150 the 2.7 puts out 242kw and 542nm which would go ok.
The 3.5 in the F-150 Raptor puts out 336kw and 691nm. This tune would make it a total bad ****. It is possible we could see a 3.5 with a tune around 290-300kw and 550-600nm.
It’s a mouth watering prospect at the same engine in the GT makes north of 600HP and weighs about 200kg.
