Part of the motivation to flood the market is to damage the US shale oil industry.

As long as Venezuela, Russia and Iran flood the market all is good. I doubt there will ever be agreement within OPEC amount production limits.

Ye I got E10 for 95cents yesterday in Eltham.....Was only going to put $20 in but at that price I thoutght I'd better fill her up!

Its looking like oil prices are going to stay low for a while yet while the worlds economies continue to struggle along with poor growth numbers.

Petrol in Melbourne jumped 25cents to $1.25 over this weekend for some unknown reason.

I noticed at the United in Yarra Glen E10 was still 93.7c while driving past today.

Then tonight on way home it had dropped to 92.7 so i stopped and put some in.

And the Caltex at the end of town had also dropped from 1.23 back down to 96c.

Not sure wots going on?

One retailer pumps up the price to improve their profit margin but not everyone follows so they are forced to drop it back down or lose business. It used to happen here with LPG. Woolies would push the price up 20c but Coles wouldn't follow so Woolies would have to bring the price back down. Meanwhile, the independents couldn't compete and were always 15-20c more. Suddenly both big players matched the independents and that's the way it has stayed for 3 years now, that's how I know they are bending us over. When the local guy in Tumby Bay, (who pays COD), can undercut the price in Pt Lincoln by 5c then you know we are being royally screwed.

The local Coles servo here had the price of around 94.5 cents before the weekend. Come the weekend the same servo had the price at 125.7. How does petrol jump 31.2 cents in the same day.

Every time the price increase in this area it starts off by this Coles servo. They raise the price and everyone follows.

Yes i fell for that one a few weeks ago thinking they where all going to go up, so i topped up the tank only for them to go back to the low price the next day,
I went to Williamstown on saturday and it seemed all the BP servos had upped their prices over 20 cents per litre,
Meanwhile most of the others where between 89 cpl for ethanol or between 93 and 95 cpl odd.
Most definitely seems like a bit of price gouging by BP and some others.

On the news last night they said that the public will be able to access the whole sale price of fuel soon, so we can see if servo's are taking us for a ride. Will be interesting to see the market, but is it really going to make a difference. If all servo's put up the price and you have no fuel, you basically have to fuel up the car.

Too true.
I'm having fun filling up all the School bus's at the servo today the people there tell me that just before Christmas Diesel was $2.25cpl.

As it's a Gov run store/servo the markup is minimal, so the locals are loving the price drop..........270kms to the next nearest Fuel supply. Alice Springs.

I was told this morning that petrol had just ducked under the $1 per L, being in Asia I can't just whip down to the local servo and check. Is petrol really that cheap back home now?

Yes its still around $1.05 per litre in Melbourne.

I just filled up a few hours ago.

Looks like they're not going to gouge us for the long weekend too which is nice for once.
