One small observation:

Many here appear to dislike the style of the new HSV and are sure that it will be unloved and unwanted.
This is not always the case in the real world. Quite often the uglier and weirder looking the car the more rabid the zealot who worships it.

Can anyone think of a recent Ford product like this.......

All the aspects of the AU1 Forte design worked together, love it or hate it. The thing looked integrated, unlike the E2 HSVs.

Yeah, yeah, it was too controversial blah, blah, blah...

ESP, I saw the Clubbie and GTS etc in the flesh too last weekend at the Island. I'm totally with you.....the front ends are far too busy. Looks like a cheese grater. My mate who is an HSV man and in the market for a new car took one look and said he'd be trying for a current model rather than the new one.

Interestingly, I had the same thoughts around the Amercian thing. They looked like they were on the boat to the US, then were suddenly pulled and released to the Aust market. The chrome and 'bling' is a giveaway.....cannot believe that this design wasn't pitched for the Yanks.

The Senator was probably the best, but only because it had less holes in it!!! The front end still looks pretty big and heavy (not literally, but in design).

I dont get wat the fuss is about the new HSV's looking to "busy"...... If anything they needed to DRAMATICALLY change the look of the VE HSVs cos they look to much like the base models.... Seriously my mate has a VE SS and another has a Maloo.... Differences aren't much.... HSV are supposed to be special/different to the standard sport range thats why they are HSV.... Whether you like it or not, big spoilers, grills, vents, etc when the average public (not ford enthusiasts) see it.. they are gonna say... "WOW! That car looks sporty"

Seriously, aprt from VZ HSVs i reckon these are the next best looking..

Peace out :P

Have seen HSV E2 tv ad on One HD so far.

Pretty average, all cgi... nothing to get excited about.

I'm actually starting to warm up to the front end styling of this. Just the front, nothing else. :P

You should be ashamed of that statement Falc'man...just ashamed i tell you LOL!

EDIT: oh wait...i just saw the pic you referenced. You're right...it suddenly looks so much nicer to me too ha ha!!

To be fair, like everything, you grow to accept things over time. Looking at that AU1 pic earlier, i was very much against it when it came out but now i think it just looks out there, not bad. Things change. As i noted in an earlier post, HSV has always been a bit 'crazy', so in a way this sort of styling is what they go for.

Even if over time the shock fades and the aggressive nature of its styling is backed off (particularly as other manufacturers bring out new looks) it will still be a very haphazard example of automotive design. The lack of integration and conflict between the styling cues used is something only a whole new set of front/rear bumpers will fix. This is unlikely for at least the next few years....so love it or hate it we will be looking at that front end for a while.....

Apologies in advance.

A mate is seriously looking at buying a GTS as a runaround car of all things

I hope he does actually - I really dont mind them.

From the outside its probably just one "bling option" delete away from bieng just fine. I bet you still get the worlds worst handbrake though.

Mate at the time they were developing that POS, pimp my ride was regularly on television. The HSV boss at the time probably said something along the lines of "Yo, this iz X to the Z, check out my E squared".
HSV = POO.

Hmm yes some interesting points indeed.

Unfortunately those reviews are by joshua dowling...so i think i will be waiting on some other journo impressions for now. His 'pro-Holden/HSV' mantra is well known.

Even so, i think he has raised some good initial views. Good to see the GTS is back to being a proper halo model...which will only force FPV to step up in this area re the GT-P/GT-H situation.

Still not liking these cars at all. HSV have turned up the ugly, big time. They may go well, but with the Holden interiors sucking big time, and now the outside is just as bad, it would hurt to be seen in one.

By smack you mean he'd suck the platnium out of a VN's catalytic converter just to spend 5 minutes driving an Omega. Then yes, he's on smack.

The wheels which have always been an HSV strength, are just not inspiring on the GTS. They look funny. The front is very heavily laden with too many trinkets and the front overhang is longer than the original VEGTS which adds to the "weighty" look.

The rear also takes a while to get used to, with an obvious attempt at Ferrari styling but with a pinch of BOGAN thrown at it to appease the demographic target. ( read additional plastic vents and exaggerated proportions)

This car will certainly make an impact on the road. It will be very obvious that it is a GTS and not a CLUBSPORT.

The attempt is brave.........but as I previously posted, it smacks of USA export design that was perhaps canned at the last moment.......meaning the local cars now must wear the POKER FACE.
