I agree..8.6 for a 6ltr v8 is a bit hard to believe.

You’re joking right??? Guzzled??? They used the word "achieved" when describing the SSV when it achieved 8.6L/100 km.

I was led to believe that these VE's are pretty thirsty but the V6 achieved 7.7 L/100 km as well. These are good consumption figures from a car of this size and with three passengers and their luggage in anyone's book.

Let's all remember that the average speed for the trip came to about 75km/hr, considering one of my cars in purely suburban/cbd driving sits on 28km/hr (14.1 L/100km) as I speak I don't think the economy run was anything more then an excercise in best ever possible achievements. In "normal" driving there is no hope of these figures ever being matched.

Highly doubt those figures....
Maybe they were dual fuel and they converted to gas occassionally to keep the figures low

Mine is sitting on about 38kph at the moment, which is mostly darting around the suburbs in 70/80 zones.

75kph average? That's highway. Plod around in 6th gear and you'll get that easy.

if your only going to use your car for 1200rpm in sixth on cruise control, sitting behind a truck - perhaps even with a tow rope pulling you, whats the point... ??? for the people who "drive" their cars, show us the real figures

It's easy too get them too run like this. Once a VY SV8 drove a full tank over 900km. They used the economy mode as they called it don't go over 2300rpm i think it was. On the way home they got about 700-800 giving it hell.

This is "normal" driving for me. I, for one, appreciate this comparison.

A Holden V8 uses less fuel on the highway than my I6 EB2 Falcon. How sad

I actually made it from Newcastle to Kalkallo on one tank in the XR ute, cruise 99% of the time and just a relaxed drive. For anyone to claim these kind of figures they had better hope that the people that buy them see the same (or at least similar) numbers, this is in a sense a form of false/misleading advretising if they don't.

I wonder how these figures are achievable in the real world. I have never owned a car that achieves the claimed fuel consumption results......And I have had a variety of cars. I drive 600-900km a week with my job and have done so for the last 12 years. As a comparison , here are the actual figures of the cars my family have owned:-

1/ My 2.0 focus manual:- Hwy = 8.5 - 9.5 litres
City = 10 - 11 litres

2/ Mother's focus(2.0 auto) similar to above.

3/ My AU111 XR8 220 manual:- hwy = 12.5-13.5 litres
City = 15.5- 17.5 litres

4/ Wife's AU111 4.o auto:- hwy = 9.5 - 10.5 litres
city = 13.5 - 14.5 litres

5/ My Grand Vitara V6 auto :- hwy = 12 - 12.5 litres
city = 13.5 - 14.5 litres

6/ My BA XR6T auto :- hwy = 10.5 - 11.5 litres
city = 13.5 - 16.0

7/ Brother's N15 SSS Pulsar manual :- hwy = 8.5 - 9.0 litres
- city = 9.5 - 12.5

All the hwy driving is regular hwy driving at 110-120 kph. It makes me wonder how a 6 litre V8 that is heavier than any of the above vehicles can achieve such a "low" figure. All my own cars have travelled a lot of km's with a log book/fleet card. I threw in the other cars just to compare different drivers. I do like to "drive" my cars as that's what they are there for but at the same time I don't thrash them....All the consumption figures above are higher than the claimed ones.......Sorry to bore you all with the figures but that's my $1.29 worth!!

The best i ever got from my auto sedan was 9.1L/100km on a trip back from Brisbane, and its 100kw less, and 2 gears less

The only car i have seen match it's claimed fuel economy was my sisters Gen-2, It actually was better 7.9lt claimed it ran a easy 7.5 and even 6.9lt. It's a heap of **** that runs good on fuel:P.

Not in the real world. Some of the fuel figures some road testers have achieved in v6 models have been pretty poor, the Falcon has used a litre less in a few tests now. How they managed to claim a 0.1 L per 100 difference with a 100+kg heavier body is beyond me. Those figures don't show on the road. A VZ would easily be more economical than a VE over the same piece of road.

He was a long time Holden employee, worked as an engineer on the 253 project. His bias is quite obvious. He always recommends the Kluger over the Territory because his sister has one and she likes it

That reveals quite alot.
Also, the story reveals why holden cars are in more accidents than fords; all the holden drivers avoid using brakes and pick their spots in and around traffic in order to save fuel. Yes I am aware this will drag out the usual suspects but it is a joke capice?
