I know this is the wrong thread but driving home tonight, I was driving alongside the new territory front covered up and badges at the rear all taped over. Inside I saw the touchscreen lit up and it looked like the Ford Focus Sync screen. I couldn't get a picture it was too dark and once they new I was driving alongside it trying to get a better view of the inside they turned off the freeway.

Has anyone seen the new billboard in Geelong near Plant 5...? The one with the ED Futura, says the Futura is here. Not sure if it's a new bill board or if they've stripped the old adverts off it and that one was still underneath...

It's Doubtful, back then they used paper on billboards, not the plastic they use these days.

And it would want to be really really good paper to last that long with layers of glue over it

Yeah that looks a bit too clean to be an old layer. And the odds of stopping at that particular layer, in Geelong..?

Maybe it's the start of a historic campaign in the lead up to the new one? If they've already got the graphics, it's a cheap way to do it...

Checked out the website of Signific (company name at the bottom of that billboard) to see if their About Us indicated whether they were in business back when ED was released - just says their managing director has been doing his thing for 15 years, so no definitive answer there.

Can't be stuffed looking in to it further to see when the business name Signific was registered - if they did not exist back when ED was released or pending release then it is fair to assume that billboard is new (old) work.

EDIT: After a second look the Signific section at the bottom is separate to the rest of the billboard and is not part of the Futura print.

Also, there's every chance ownership of the billboard could have changed over the years.

Yeah, my thinking was that if the Signific portion was actually part of the ED Futura print, and Signific did not exist back when ED was released, then it would confirm it was a new print.

Likewise, if the4 Signific bit was part of the print but Signific went out of business years ago it would indicate it was an old print.

i attempted a chop of the G6E Turbo based on what little we have seen. The base image is the red XR8 that rocketscientist did, full credit to them and the original photographer. I redid the headlights/angle, grilles, mirrors, windows, wheels, bonnet, badges, rear spoiler, blah blah. Not much info on the fog lights at the moment so they're just a slightly different colour. There are still perspective errors and messy bits of paint but here goes:

That ED Futura ad is pretty cool. I remember the ads from then and the re-introduction of the 'Futura' model, which became very successful throughout the ED-EL days.

Most interesting of it being on display now.

Not looking forward to the future. I can just imagine the front pages of the car mags: 'new hydrogen 3 series', hybrid super godzilla supercapacitor GTR, KERS Volvo S-Whatever, new Suba-yota EV86 Synergy Drive, Ecoboost 1 Cylinder 100cc quad turbo, Hyundai Exodus, Mahindra tonka truck, Google Motors robot car, Lada-Skoda Nuclear powered car...
I can understand your disappointment with Aussie manufacturing coming to an end but I've never understood this idea some have that performance cars are a uniquely Australian thing and no one else has ever built a performance car. BMW, Merc, Audi, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Suburu, Mitsubishi among others all build relatively affordable cars that are sold in this country.

Just look at cars like the new Mclaren and new Porsche that use hybrid technology to build prius eating cars. Every new advancement in cars even the 'green' ones can be used to up performance. Giving up on cars just because a tiny country in the middle of nowhere no longer builds cars is crazy.

I'm getting really sick of this insinuation that the name "Fairmont" is for an old person's car.

It would be cool if they changed it every week to an old Falcon advertisement, they do have 54 years worth after all. It would probably create some interest and conversation about the Falcon, every bit helps.
