Geez I hate Abalone fishing day.
6am, went for my usual quiet run up the coast to be greeted by thousands if not tens of thousands of people out to leaver shellfish from the reef with screwdrivers. Cars parked double even triple deep over footpaths, cycleways, roads and gardens. Judging by the level of thought and respect shown on the roads I'd say the same contempt will be shown for the reef and environment.

Never knew there was an actual “day” for abalone?.. Is it a WA thing?
Here in Vic, on scuba you used to be allowed 12 blacklip and 4 greenlip per day per diver though those numbers probably reduced nowadays? And it was 365 days a year.. No actual season

Mind you it probably makes no difference, every one just goes out at once and bags out. The surf life saving clubs are all hands on deck today, lots of non swimmers out there

Fortunately they have a limit per person, unfortunately they get the whole extended family of 52 out to get as much as they can, they will even pass their catch off to someone who will ferry them off so they can get more, or will make multiple trips to different places all day, fisheries are pretty limited to how many places they can patrol, and the smart ones know if no one is being checked then its fair game.
We usually lose a few of the non swimmers on days like this. |

I wonder how many people get hurt with your Abalone fishing day in WA, I've witnessed some ugly scenes over here in Vic with regards to general fishing whether legal or illegal, hence the reason I don't do it anymore.

Whilst it's certainly nice to have lush green lawns at this time of the year, one of the downsides of having so much rain and nice warm days is that the grass loves these conditions! This was a week's worth of growth:

Starting to sound like a cocky there Foxtrot?
It’s either too much bloody rain or not enough and a drought! Speaking of which… Don’t know if anyone’s been watching Clarkson’s Farm? Love him or hate him.. I really lhave enjoyed the series.. One titbit that he mentioned was, “Next time a farmer says to you that it’s either been too wet or too dry, don’t write him off as a typical whinging farmer.. Put your arm around him and say, I feel for you!” Because I now truly do understand..

No need to brag, the sun has been out every day since 29th of November and I didnt see any of the rain even before then where I live in the Burbs, and my lawn shows it, I would be better off with painted green concrete I think.

My neighbour sent me a pic last week because of the storms there, showing a large tree branch down but I didn't see any grass.

I live in a very dry area of Melbourne, must say my lawns look fantastic like yours atm, most years it is usually browning off, dying. I welcome the rain and don't mind the extra bit of mowing, heck even my gardens are looking great. |

Don't get me wrong, it's a good 'problem' to have. Certainly better than the alternative! Back in November, my lawns were looking very shabby, being very dry and starting to look like they normally do at the end of summer. Quote:
Looks worse than it is, really. Three of those properties I don't even see or hear anything from. The upside is there's only four houses in my court and I've got some beautiful old gums just out the front, which makes up for it a bit for me. Still, I know being in suburbia is not for everyone.

BOM said 25% of 10mm worth of rain. It ****ed down 60mm and the whole radar was red and black
I was going around and checking for leaks and there it was water dripping from the downlight. Although I just noticed that there is a loose hose on my roof from my evap so it could be same issue as I had a couple of years and just a coincidence with the rain. So now I need to get the HVAC and roof people (probably half of Canberra do to) around to make sure |

Like a number of other formerly scientific organisations, the BOM seems to now be “science informed” rather than actually aspiring to consistent scientific analysis and data accuracy that would pass a peer review.
Hopefully your ceiling isn’t too damaged. |

Thankfully just a bit of water mark, light still works which is good since it is new. That's how I spotted it as it initially didn't turn on. Already needed the sparky to come back anyway so will just get them to check it out. The good news is my living room window didn't **** out water during that storm so feel a lot better about that now as it used to before the gutters were cleaned with much less rain so if it didn't do it during that storm then I'm all good I reckon. |

Commonwealth Bank
I’m a non customer. Had sold some stuff for “pocket money” and wanted to pass a bit on to someone else to pick up a few car parts interstate. Everything needed to compete an OTC deposit was written down clearly on a 4” slip of paper. Counter service flat out refused to do a third party cash deposit “You can use our smart ATMs”. However the Commonwealth Bank smart ATMs do not apparently work with all formats of account number. Staff again declined to assist. This is clearly the New Australia. People put more effort into avoiding perceived work than actually doing work. Did I mention it was the Commonwealth Bank? |

Last year travelling through Qld and NSW, for three days tried to amend a debit card transaction with a motel in Kingaroy. the Monday was a p'holiday in Qld, bank closed for the day at mid day, 10 mins before we arrived in Moree. Eventually found a bank opened in the am when we passed through Nyngan. Joined a line there reaching out onto the pavement, the only operator there, a lady probably in her late 50's, was incredibly helpful. Even rang the offending motel in Kingaroy to confirm their identity and to establish that we were not being scammed. We wonder if she still has a job there ? I can remember the school savings accounts, the tin money boxes, replaced by plastic elephant style, and the associated long running advertising theme "Branches everywhere" ! |

Two gripes:
Back to work yesterday Was supposed to have until the end of the month off, but the weather has been so crap I decided to come back early and take the extra two weeks off in Feb or March when, hopefully, the weather will improve. If not, at least all the kids will be back at school. Left dinner out early last night to get to the servo before it closed. Got there about 15 minutes before close time to find the resupply truck was there topping up the tanks and had both the exit and entry closed off. The prices board was still lit and there was a couple of cars waiting, so I thought they may just let us through after the tanker was finished and before they close. But no, tanker driver packs up, and at that exact point the sign goes out and I see that the office (hidden behind the truck) is all closed up!

Know the frustration ! I am not a CB customer either. A few years ago, we wanted to put $1K into our grandsons account for his 21st. Took a cheque (remember them) to the local CB to deposit it. Walked in and I had never seen a 'bank' like it before. Looked more like a coffee lounge than a bank. A concierge with a tablet wanted to know what I wanted, and was told to take a seat and someone would assist. A young bloke eventually came over and said that I had to use the ATM deposit. I said that I didn't know how, so he said he would instruct me on how to use it. My reply was that I didn't want instructions as I would not be using it in the future, it was a once only transaction. Deaf ears. He then began to instruct me in punching numbers and menus ( I had to do it ) on the screen. This took me about 5 minutes to interpret his rather vague instructions. Might be OK if you know what you are doing. As the branch was not busy at the time, it took about 15 minutes to make the deposit. Back in the ole days of bank tellers, it may have taken 3 minutes at most. Technology is great, saves time, easy to use, the way of the future. |

Yep, once upon a time you could actually use a thing called money and make your purchase or deposit on the spot, staff were very helpful, and if you called a call centre you could speak to a person in the same city and they would help you out with no problems.
Ahhhhh the good old times hey. Get used to the crap we have to deal with, we are all sheep and just do as were told now so its inevitable, "no you cant use cash", "just call our call centre", "no you need a credit card", "we have to check your credit score", "we need 150 forms of ID", "you need to make a account", "you can do it all online" and "you have to use the xxxxx machine", its getting a bit out of hand now, cut jobs, cut cost's and don't provide any service seems to be the way forward. |

I found it kind of funny but also a tad rude when i bought a laptop a few weeks back. I had done my reasearch so knew which one i was after and that it was in stock. The young gentleman asks politely if i needed assistance, i said that i was wanting to purchace that laptop. The bloke checks stock on his handheld and yes there was stock, but as opposed to doing the normal as in go out the back to get it, he tells me to take a photo of the tag and go to the checkout. So i did that and the young lady at the till radios for someone to go retrieve the thing from the back. Whaddya know, it was the same young gentleman. Out of character for me, i payed cash, and it was funny looking at the young cashier. I dont think she had ever seen $100 notes before.
