yes i'm well aware they knew what they were doing, that's not my point

my point is that the unveiling of FZ would be a timed business strategy from Ford to avoid anyone backing out on their deposit and them subsequently losing money

Even if people did back out, there would be at least 500 other people that would come in and buy up.

I have no sympathy for GTF buyers. They are getting a FANTASTIC car.

This new XR8 definitely looks the goods and whilst I love the FG, this takes it up to another level where it will clearly outclass the Commodore in the looks department. If people continue to buy the VF over this, then we know that people are just silly!!!

Fair point, although i'd be surprised to see anyone back out for the new model or in turn struggle to find a new buyer for a GTF sitting around.

Good riddance. I hope you enjoy your EPIC fail like VF.

I hope you're not buying it because of the room that a wagon provides. You'll be disappointed.

it's allllllllllllll about the $$$

i'm still umming and arring about the XR8, it'd be a fantastic car but i'm still dealing with build quality issues with my FG2 and i dare say parts and production processes aren't having MORE money invested in them so it puts me off a bit. Not everyone encounters issues but i have with two out of the three brand new Falcons i've bought in my time.

also the rumour of limited numbers may mean higher costs and dealers unwilling to bend due to scarcity of supply, so i might just keep living in the past lol

still exciting though.

Build quality is the main thing in the back of my mind aswell, hopefully with the lower demand numbers and the car being what it is Ford will go a step further in ensuring they are well buttoned up.

This car looks outstanding, I can already see that aggressive front end peeking through the covers. Can't wait till this is released. I think an xr6 turbo or G6E will be in the cards for me yep!

Build quality will be fine. Let's give some respect to the integrity of the workers. I'm sure they will take pride in their work.

Don't worry mate, Holden even have Ford fans fooled. Something that has been going on for years.

have you bought a new Ford recently? Have a look at my post ^ up there - or have a read through my FG thread. It's nothing to do with peoples integrity, that's not in question. It's issues inherent with mass production, in this case on a budget.

With the changeover being in its early days it will be interesting to see how that pans out and if the public will embrace the Hybrid and/or Camry or look towards something that isn’t the Taxis model.

Consumer perception is the key and how Toyota goes about convincing Australians a Taxi spec car is the right one for their home garage will be an interesting lesson in marketing principles.

You must also remember Ford let the lower model Falcons down by not keeping up with the in car tech of their competitors and therefore Taxi Spec became a whole new way of describing these vehicles and eventually went on to tarnish the higher spec models.

If Toyota keeps the Camry relevant and moving forward with the market they may not suffer the same fate as the Falcon.

I think luck has a lot to do with also.

I have bought, all new, in the past

EL XR8
AU2 XR8
TS 50
BA GTP. all big money in there days.

Now I own an FG2 XR6 and it was the cheepest
and the best put together car of the lot

yeah luck is the whole point, it's luck of the draw with mass produced machinery, or anything mass produced.

things have changed since most of the cars you listed there too, my issues started with a 2005 BA2.

anyway it's my experience and that's what affecting my decision making in deciding whether to shell out what is a decent amount of cash on a depreciating asset. Doesn't flavour anyone else's milk.

There's no comparison between the Sportswagon and a Falcon sedan in terms of storage capacity/practicality. I can only assume you're trying to kid yourself, because no one with any inkling of objectivity would come to your conclusion.

It was Ford's choice to let wagon sales go to hell. Don't talk down the Holden product just because Ford's beancounters didn't think that slice of the market was worth investing in.

Good to see Camries as taxis and being beaten up like the appliances they are. Unlike Falcon, camry has no fans and will not be missed in the event it disappears and people will just buy the next available generic hyundai, great wall, nissan maxima or mitsubishi lancer that comes along. Always cringed when the BA Falcon started becoming vehicle of choice for taxi use. Like someone (cant remember who, perhaps a ford exec) said in the media at the time the BA Falcon was 'too good to be a taxi'.

I could be wrong but it looks like in the video that the roof lining may now be dark coloured rather than light.

Thats pretty stunning. Sure its just a facelift but imo its the detail that makes a car and so far the XR looks like its a step up. Biased perhaps but it looks more thought out thn the B and F series which were both a little simple.

Wonder wht the script for the XR6T will look like, will it have just XR6 on the grill, will the "turbo" be jazzed up aswell?

and it is actually hard to tell if the wheels in that video are 19 or 20, i think they're the GT 19's but wide angle lenses can make wheels look disproportionately large so i'm guess that's all it is in the side shot. Thin spoke wheels always look larger too.

also regarding the DRL's on the XR, it looks like only the first (lowbeam area) segment lights up as the DRL and maybe both of them come on at night at lower power as the parking light, forming the trademark XR segmented light effect.
