The tax that gets docked from your pay every fortnight, is that calculated as if you were earning that amount for the entire year?

So if you took a pay cut you should get a decent return? Before deductions of course.

Hate this time of year.

Really hate the following March even more.... thats when I make payment on the outstanding tax.
Have had to pay extra tax every time, so I cant see why this year will be any different.

Yeah I got home and I was told I owed $900. I waited to the last minute to pay it too.

The timing was absolutely crap as I just forked out about $33k cash with my car :

I hope I overpaid tax by heaps and get a massive refund. Wishful thinking I reckon.

All other things being equal (they rarely are) then yeah you would have been overtaxed pre-paycut.

I wouldnt have a clue how much I'm going to get back. Working in a fulltime job for the first time, been there 6months but I'm only on a trainee wage. Had part time jobs when I was in school but they were cash at clothing alterations/dry cleaners. Now I'm Admin trainee fulltime @ Franga Hospital. I have no clues about tax :(

I'll be using part of my tax money to get a wade 1673 cam, cant wait! The rest of the money might go towards wheels or I'll just save it. Not sure what I'll be getting back tho.

Nope, started working there while I was in high school (almost 4 yrs now!) so unless my boss has taken the initiative and taken extra tax out for HECS I don't think so... I kindly asked them to take out $5 extra per week anyway in the hope of getting 52*5$ back at tax time :P

I earn too much to get youth allowance or anything like that so all I can do is wait till I have my group cert (and wonder where the hell all the money it says i've earnt has gone!) and go from there.

Hardly any incentive for me to earn big money when I read this. The more you earn the more you get raped by ATO :

When I get a full time job I'd still like to do my current job on Saturdays for play money. Me thinks I'll be asking for cash in hand :P
