sorry bud, you live in a different world.

expecting every household to spend $2k for 3 phase is absurd.

more to the point the grids wont cope, they don't now in summer

The 2k quote wasn't implying mouah.
There are people today struggling to pay their average livings costs.
In your own bubble.
Yes I can afford things, I don't care filling up at $100 fills, just as you having your fleet acdc/ice.
Manual only for your V8's, we know we know, as we know many are not as you as their sales confirm, no loss

Again, if you have 5 cars, it's not. It's less than your petrol bill for any one of those cars. If you have 1-2 cars, single phase is plenty.

And I'm not even talking about those with solar or battery backup at home.

Having as many lights as we have now would've been thought to be madness, the AC at almost every new house built, etc. The grid kept up fine. It will again I suggest. Norway hasn't had any major outages and they are very high in EV adoption.

All houses have 415v going to them, ovens run on 415v, 3 phase is not what you get from the power box, 3 phases is the way an electric motor is wound, single phase runs on 240v, its the windings in a motor that is the phases, what you need is a 415v wired female plug on the wall, if I'm wrong correct me please, am not an electrician!

The car chargers run at 240v 3 phase, not 415v 3 phase. Even with all the chargers going, the voltage drop isn't significant.

Norways probably not the best analogy Kypez, they have a abundance of generation and sell to surrounding countries. Mainly hydro plus there own oil and gas fields and small 5.3m population.

True. It was more that the sudden increase didn't make the system collapse.

We have abundant sunshine here as well which we can invest in. And, if we are talking burning oil and gas, we have plenty of coal (which still produces less emissions than a petrol or diesel engine).

But we're getting off topic here.

A little too early to write off Mercedes V8s just yet.

I reckon there's going to be grid issues, the moment we get warm weather and people use their A/C en masse the power goes out here in Boganistan - and I mean 'warm weather' as in 'warm' by people who live in the Victorian mountains 'warm'.

Let alone every Tom, Dick and Harriet charging their EV.

Infrastructure from the grid side hasn't kept up with demand with refrigerated AC let alone everyone charging cars.

Hell our local pizza shop can't even upgrade their pizza oven because the grid infrastructure out in the street can't cope.

In perth it was common for houses to have 3ph. Not guaranteed but many houses had a bore pump and/or old a/c. Nearly every house I lives in built prior to 1970 had 3ph.
It's extremely uncommon after 1970 though, you had to make do with single phase so electricty could be shared as housing density grew. It's only got rarer as time went on. These days the only way to get 3ph is pay exorbitant amount or buy an old block that had 3 ph.
WA/Perth - home of double brick housing with mostly 3ph prior 1970.

That being said, why do others assume a commercial decision is politically motivated? There's gov directives that are fixed no matter who is in charge (euro 6/7, CAFE etc). But it's not merc going br/woke. If things make business sense they'll find a way. If not the only broke is the whingers crying political causes.

Where is 3 phase in that screenshot - it is charging on 240V single phase at 24A.
Model 3 can't charge at 24A 3 phase anyway as Max current on 3 phase supply is 16A (11KW) .

See that 3 next to the amps in a circle? That's the number of phases.

And this is my Model S. It can charge at 16.5kw on 3 phases. My Model 3's are indeed limited to 16amps on 3 phases.

Would you like me to change the display from kms to kw?

Voltage displayed is 240V and your supply to HPWC is 415V - so it is just a display anomaly as you don't have 240V 3 phase supply to your house .
Other option is that Tesla only uses single phase charging even though connection is 3 phase . In any case ,my point stands , there is no 240V 3 phase supply .

Let's try this way :

Power in 3 phase circuit is P=VxIx1.73 (we wont worry about power factor)
in your first screen shot - P=236x24x1.73 , thats 9.8kW roughly
or at 415V P=415x24x1.73 , that is 17kW roughly

Second screenshot is P=415x16x1.73 , around 11kW

Now tell me it is charging at 240V 3 phase because screen
says so...

Charging 415 v 3 ph volts to the electric transformer passes the semiconductor device numbers to get 240 volts DC to charge the battery set in EV if l am correct.

So in conclusion , Tesla screen for some reason does not display 415V when charging on 3 phase supply. I would log a service call .

Well, you seemed adamant that I didn't have 3 phase. So, which is it? I have three phase or don't I?

I too, thought it was weird to see 240v 3 phase but accepted it as it wasn't my forte. I have no issues if the car is displaying it differently and you are right. As far as I'm concerned, I just wanted 3 phase and I have that.

They all do that across the planet. Never seen one say 415v. Again, not fussed cause I'm getting 3 phase charge rate.

I was pretty sure that you didn't have 3 phase 240V as you claimed in your earlier comment :

The car chargers run at 240v 3 phase, not 415v 3 phase.

Hahaha! To be fair, there was bad data supplied in the screen. So you're fine.

But yes, we have 3 phase at home and is really handy with electric cars but like with the other charger, single phase works just fine too.

People wont pay 2k for 3 phase but have/had no trouble laying down more for solar panels, i think they'll be fine.
Wont be long until 3 phase is part of a new house build for that very reason anyway, just like NBN etc.
