Go the bulge. It makes it look like the motor is just so big and mean, it's just trying to rip itself out of the engine bay!

Scoops these days look tacky imo. You can find pseudo scoops on all manner of parts bin special, eg that Kia that looks like a wrx.
The bulge is a fresh, practical and smooth addition. However, i can see them being cheapened by people geting them put on civics and hyundais

Bahhaaahahhaha. Magna as if they will ever have a meaty enough engine to be deserving of a bulge lol. "Mitsashiti" is the only word to be said. As Guido Hatzis says "Mitsubishi makes shit cars mate"

They all look the same shape (way off for BA copy), do they come from the same place. They all look like like crap too!

They all look like the HO bonnets, I know that the one for the BA XR8 and FPV GT/-P's are about $2000 each, But the old style GT shakers look and work realy well on the BA XR8 and FPV GT's due to being placed in the high pressure/air flow spot on the bonnet.

I'll tend to agree that the bonet bulge is better for a modern car. Your old pre 80's falcons look fantastic with scoops.

However im not going to discredit scoops or a car makers decision to put them on a car, because I think done really well they can look really good..

An example of a scoop looking bad is the new holden monaro (old school idea, old school implementation).

The best implementation of a scoop is to follow styling cues of the car itself and are slightly less exagerated.

Take this pic for example http://www.bugs78.ca/truck/01Chevy/hood/hood5.JPG

See how it follows the lines and image of the car?

(probably wouldnt have made it as high at the back, but you get the idea)

The only one out of those gawdaful bulges that looks even close to half half decent is the GT.

I prefer vents or scoops but I do think Ford got it right designing the BA bulge.

The Monaro bonnet looks terrible though. I don't think they really thought it through when those were drawn up. But then, like everything else Australian that the Yanks touch, it just gets ruined.

The munro bonnet looks like a poor copy of the XB, except the vents are too close together and stuck way up the front. This apparent lack of good styling seems to be popular though with plenty of c/dores & ss ute drivers...

Yes, I saw one on a Commodore Station wagon last week. I don't know if he saw how much I was laughing at him though!

I saw a black SS with Altezzas, bonnet buldge and an STi looking rear wing. Even though both our windows were tinted, I think he got the idea that I was absolutely cacking myself because I noticed he wound down his passenger side window. :P

I only think bulges and scoops should be on car when there is a valid reason for them. For the ford, its to comply with pedestrian crumple zones (apparently the boss WILL fit under a normal hood, but not legally). For the subaru, its for the intercooler. And for the Monaro its for..... nothing other than looks afaik.

As for magna bashing:

You'd be suprised, drive had this to say about the Magna VRX back in 2000:

The Falcon XR8? - back in the rear vision mirror. In fact, you gotta go all the way up to the 63 per cent bigger engine capacity of the 5.7-litre Holden V8 to find any homegrown car that's faster...

With a Correvit-verified 0-100 time of 7.04 seconds and a standing 400 metres of 15.07 seconds, the 5-speed VR-X Magna is just stunningly fast

The bulge for V8s and the scoops for XR6T or the Typhoon. Big bulge for big V8 and scoops to let the Turbo or SC cool down.

So both in there own respects. Don't like the Monaro scoops.

Don't like the small scoops at all. They look like they belong on a Focus or something.

And I don't believe I approve at all at the direction the owner is trying to take the falcon on the left (the blue one). 'MYXRHO'? The HO badging in the bottom grill?

I love the XR8 bulge, it looks as tough as. But I've always had a bit of a problem with the way it drops off at the back (towards the windscreen). The shaping just seems to nosedive a bit too quickly.

Monaro scoops look disgraceful. Not enough shaping gone in around them to make them fit properly (ie: Run off channels below flutes on XB/XC bonnets). Makes them look homemade.

at bathurst last year i had a good look at the monaro scoopes. did you know that the scoopes, grill and lower grill all have different mesh. i forget wether its just size of the holes or totally different styles alltogether but thats what pi**ed me off about the monaro scoopes. i think they look good.

anyway on the XR8-GT id just leave the buldge. those two little scoopes look crappy (imo). i also dont like that weird shaker thing some people have (possitioned at the back of the bulge) it looks tacky (again imo). i dont mind the old style shaker on top.

Depends on which car? What a stupid question. A scoop on an XR8 would look retarded, a scoop on a Subaru WRX STi looks horn.

I could be mistaken but I believe it was a battle of 'Bulge on XR8' or 'Scoops on Monaro'. Basically picture the scoops on the Falcon, then the bulge on the Monaro, and when you've decided that the bulge looks best on both, like the majority of us seem to have done, give your answer.

And a quick question, is the bulge on the XR8's different to the bulge on the GT's? Probably not, but I spotted a BA GT today and took extra notice of the back of the bulge and I think I withdraw my previous statement about the shape. I was sitting beside an XR8 the other day and remember thinking that it dropped down towards the windscreen too sharply, but on the GT today, it didn't seem so bad.

Perhaps I was having an off day...?

The bulge looks awesome. Obviously it isn't just ford fans who agree, looking at the bulges fitted to other cars (including Holdens). Will we ever see a Falcon with the Monaro scoops? I doubt it because the scoops are just too damn ugly. I usually like scoops, and Pontiac got them right on their GTO Ram Air concept (based on the Monaro) but on the production Monaro and GTO, they were very poorly designed
