My 98 EL has been pretty much flawles but then again it had most the running gear of the au anyhow till i started playing but even then it is still runing great

Au for sure. The old girl in the driveway doing its job day in day out 10 year old now .but yes the old xd I should get at least another 30 out of her after the spruce up .

This probably makes me sound very neglecting, but my first car was an AU Forte, and as being young and poor, and not having too much mechanical know how back then, I drove that thing for about 150,000kms with no oil or filter changes. Just the rare water top up, and that whole time, it didn't miss a beat. Not a single service or anything.

not really I have seen engines still running when old school would have stoped because the ECU compensates

Not really, Dad had an XE and an EA when I was growing up and both where massive pieces of crap who both died on him.

My AUII took a beating as a work ute ... it took a hell of a lot of punishment ... and still drove great.

Although I have to say my BFII is working like clock work as well ... with the same amount of work too.

XE only had an ecu if it was an EFI ( the replacement for the V8) one otherwise it was carby coil tft ignition module ( electronic but part of dizzy)

If serviced regularly and with the use of an auxilliary transmission cooler ... they last a fair while .... but it's a case of good servicing from the start.

I am another one that puts my hand up for the AU. I drove it like I stole it and it never missed a beat.

All of mine have been great, few little issues, but nothing to panic about.
Best was probably my old 3 on the tree manual XF ute, she just kept going and going. Rust was its only downfall.

The XD has given me no issues apart from flat batteries from not being driven enough, and the XG unfortunately suffers from cooling system/head gasket issues, but otherwise drives great.

My ED bever gave me a problem in 10 years only changed the battery and exhaust.
My BA XR6 turbo also has neve let me down only changed the battery apart from mods and still runs like new.

I will throw my hand up for the AU too my xr8 has copped a hiding from day one and apart from servicing regularly and the remote dying, it has never let me down, my eb has cost a bit but has been unloved for 320,000 and needs a little TLC

Not to be the odd one out, but I reckon my ED has to be up there for one of the most reliable Falcon’s ever made (or at least the most reliable car I’ve ever had).

As mentioned in a previous post, I’ve owned it since it was a year old, it’s done almost 330,000k’s and the only thing I’ve had to do (apart from normal wear and tear stuff) was the dizzy and the head (the later which was only done last year). Apart from that, I’ve never touched the engine and it still has no leaks worth speaking of.

Everything, and I mean everything, still works on it. I’ve always serviced it myself, every 5000k’s, and looked at that as cheap insurance. It has always been, and still is, our everyday driver. Maybe I got that freakish one, but really couldn’t ask for a car to have lasted anywhere near as good as this one.

I've owned an XD, EA1, EA2, EL, AU1, AU2, AU3, BA1.

AU hands down. Having worked in the taxi industry 1999-2006, it was the most reliable model around. The AU2/3 were almost perfect.

Wow them cabbies really love the AU. Why can't Ford continue making the AU as a taxi, like Toyota do for the 70s Toyota Crown Comfort in Asia.

You ask most cab owners and the only reason they retired their AUs is the age limit of the car and the BA is not a patch on the AU when it comes to the hard work cabs do. funny thing is in the taxi wagons when the diff dies in a b series( which doesnt take long) most of them rebuild the diff with an AU centre as they had a 4 pinion hemisphere where the B series standard is 2 pinion after this they last for ever

Never had any problems with any Fakcon that did not answer to a stupid computer! My EB cost me plenty over the time I had it.

I still remember my old XT (1968) man you just couldn't kill the thing, other than the usual consumables there was nothing to break! Still worked whn I put the +ve to the -ve on the battery (well it worked after dad re-wired the positive lead to the stater which cooked)

My vote goes for the AU, bloke around the corner from me has run his out of water and hasnt serviced it for about 6 years, still ticks over nice, he will only work on it if it breaks, not often considering no servicing to speak off

We always say our old AUIII XR6 VCT Ute was the nicest ute we've ever had. Bar the monkey bum interior, It had more visual character than the BF XR8, and the two FG's that came after it.

It also never had any issues. Very reliable car.

Well, i have owned my xf falcon for over 16 years, and god willing will own it for another 16. It is a very, very reliable car and compared to the other 2 ef xr 6,s that i owned .....well they are long gone....and this 1987 xf is still going....hmmm maybe i got lucky...

Find it funny that the most baged out Ford on AFF is also recognised as the most reliable. Long live the mighty AU.
