But a $5000 v8 Fairlane. 2300kg tow rating, lwb very planted , heaps of torque and power, cheap and plentiful parts. You'd spend the rest of the $10k in fuel over the course of the next few years.
Better choice than some boring sponge of a diesel with fly by wire throttle garbage that could grenade when it feels like. If you want a 4x4 in particular, Bronco sounds awesome!

Cars wear out quicker when you tow with them. Been there, done that. Get a GU Patrol 4.8 on LPG from around 2002-2004. You won't pay the diesel premium in price, maintenance, or fuel price. It will last forever and do a good job towing.

They don't fail like the did initially so id say its fixed and no longer a bad design. So harping on about them now just gives the car a bad name.

They still wear-out too quickly. If a couple of minor tweaks to one component "fixed" the problem, why would they re-design the whole front-end? You're the only one "harping on." The Territory is a great car. I have correctly advised the OP that if he wants a Terri, he should look at SY II or later. End of story. |

Are they good for towing about 1400kg though?
cheers, Andrew

Not sure 100% sure on number, but is 2000kg+ with the manual gearbox.
Mate has a 05 and tows his 19ft boat no worries. Super easy to drive and fuel efficient

I only sold it cause I needed to carry spare wheels and other bits that took me over the 2300kg limit (closer to 2500). 1400kg would be a breeze in a EcoLpi with the cheap gas running costs as well. Just a thought. I sold my one with 95,000 for $14750. If your heart is set on a 4wd/SUV, the terri is pretty awesome! The Everest feels so SLOW and cumbersome to drive compared to the G6E... Sadly. The Terri I drove for a bit felt a lot lighter (which it is) and more responsive in gear though there was a massive delay when you put your foot down from standstill which I wasnt a fan of...

2012 Grand Cherokee 3.0L diesel. 177Kw/550Nm. 3,500kg towing. Another option would be the Navara STX-550.

Jeep's might have 2300 kg on paper, but their ball weight is limited to 170 kgs depending on model so you need to keep the weight further back that can affect dynamics when towing.

There are a small amount of Pathfinders with that 170kW/550Nm engine too, but they are fetching high prices

I am going to suggest the Pajero like others have. Good tow rating, tough as nails, last forever, handle reasonably well. Ours is 2012 model, manual, covered 245,000km of hard use, including heavy towing of the race car transporter, yet still goes like new and doesnt use a drop of oil

For 30K I would suggest that a 2010 or thereabouts Prado would be a much better vehicle than a Pajero would ever be.Better built more reliable better resale etc etc what more do you want?

Just a lot less power and torque than the Jeep and the Nissan.

we used xd,xe,xf falcons to tow double horseflosts for years. @ float 1200 plus two horses at 1200kg= 2400kg approx. the old falcons will do it , so the ba onwards do it easy, just add a tranny cooler.
but landcrusier 100 series turbo diesel tow very good too, and hold good resale. and cheaper to fuel than my ba xr6 |
