(I know the Commodore hasn't been there for a couple of years).

And for the smart asses. The owner of the commodore isn't a youngin. The hubby has a tough C10 Chev, that he uses in burnout comps, with great success. So they're not young hoons. They are very well respected people.

Of course if property is at risk or it's a fire ban 000 it all the way but for petty illegal burring leave it to the rangers

We get 'smoke in area' calls almost weekly. It's better the clown learn the hard way than the embers starting spot fires up the street potentially putting others' property at risk. Having a fire in a built up area on a 30 degree day is more than enough reason to be called out..

We're one of the busier cfs stations. We're a semi rural brigade with two rural appliances (q/a, 24) and an urban appliance (pumper).

If we want to burn off the general process is go to the local RFS and get permission, check for a fireban, and give the neighbours a few days notice so they can be prepared if something does go wrong.

Usually when you tell the neighbours they will ask if they can come and dump some stuff on the fire and you have a bit of a get together.

Any excuse to socialise.

up here Ive spoken to RFS guys that think there one of the busiest with 50 - 80calls a year, my old RFS did arround 200 - 250 on a good year and I could tolorate "smoke sightings"

my new station does "a few" more than that but I still dont mind smoke sightings as such, but its when situations like above get called in as smoke sightings becasue they couldnt be bothered going through the proper channels that give me the %hits

we have better things to do that dealing with petty neuighbor hood squabbles

granted if some one sees smoke and doesnt know where its from its a valid call

but if Barrys flashed up a pile of leaves and Mrs Smith had the washing on the line and has the cranks, and calls the FB so Barry gets his come upins I really couldnt be ar$ed

thats where they sould call the council and get it delt with properly

of course all bets are off in a fire ban then its 000 all the way
