Motor claiming that 3 of the development engines were an upgraded 3.2 diesel, 2.7TT V6 and 2.3T I4.

Despite how diesel biased our market is, if theyve developed a large petrol variant for the US then the Raptor could be built off that.

I don't reckon they'll take the Raptor name lightly.

I've been on record as saying I'd rather pull hairs out of my bum than drive a dual cab ute- could this change that? Hmmmmm.....
Only thing that would sway me to drive a third world tuk-tuk, is if it sported a 5.0 Coyote engine, or 3.7TT EgoBoost V6.

I'm with you- it wouldn't make me lust for one, but if I had to pick a dual cab and this was available, it'd go straight to the top of the list.

That setup in an Everest would be appealing too... mind you the thing would be $100k

Won't be- Ecoboost has much more emissions flexibility and longevity as a platform moving forward.

Seemingly a lot more reliable than modern diesels too. I know the guys in the much bigger f150 average around the 12litres Per 100km in town driving with the 2.7 Ecoboost - probably better again now that the 10 speed is replacing the 6 speed.

Pretty bloody good for such a big vehicle that also does 0-100 in 5.8 seconds.

Sooner we move away from the crappy, slow, expensive, diesels the better.

The Ranger FX4 & Hilux TRD both suck.

If this Raptor concept comes out with something serious powering it, be it a variant of the EcoBoost V6 or some decent-output TT Diesel V6, then punters will pay whatever the asking price is. I use the words "serious" and "decent-output" with regard to powering a dual cab, before all the Falcon/Mustang/V8SC bois arc up.

Same deal goes for Toyota, although they've shot the TRD name in the foot this time around. If they backed up the Tonka concept with something beyond the standard 2.8, it would sell. Although the Ranger Raptor would outsell it by 10:1 in my opinion.

Ford are sitting on a rare goldmine here with a recognisable performance name, the popular Ranger range, and proven hi-po engine options that are available. They could create a "halo" car as per the old Commodore strategy which will create a trickle-down effect for regular Ranger buyers. Don't stuff it up Ford with a sticker pack & the 3.2!

IMO the body and suspension upgrades make it alot more credible wearing the Raptor name than the engine. The F150 Raptor only had about 300hp at one point.

Remember this video, when an F150 Raptor gets big air:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JKQdlXvbWSU

At the time, a Ford spokesman questioned the future of the Raptor, because of potential liability issues. Having a Dakar capable vehicle in the hands of any Ricky Bobby was a concern after this video hit YouTube ( only 1 minute )

It's great to see Ford have a winner here. And Mercedes should have teamed up with Ford (I'm glad they didn't). I think the Amarok is looking dated already, and nothing else looks as tough. Maybe the big trucks. But even RHD converters are going to lose sales, to the Ranger Raptor.

They could have done anything in the editing suite, but I listened closely and it sounds like a high revving petrol 6 to me.

Another thing I noticed is the lack of a snorkel. I'm not a Ranger owner but do snorkels come standard with the diesels?

Don't bother putting a Raptor badge on it unless it has the engine to back it up.

The cynic in me thinks it will be a retuned 3.2, some name brand springs and shocks and a sticker pack.
I hope I'm wrong.

I think theyre replacing the 2.2 with a smaller diesel. Maybe the 3.2 will be replaced eventually with the 3l V6 going into F150

I wouldn't believe the video for accurate engine sound. Video editors love adding in meaty sounding engines in car videos. Usually a big v8 sound.

I have no faith in Ford. I'm sure they are going to ruin it in some way. Mostly likely by putting a crap engine in it. Probably keeping the wheezing 3.2 diesel.

But hopefully I am proven wrong.

The 2.7 EcoBoost puts out roughly 242kw @5000rpm and 540nm @2750rpm
The current 3.2 Diesel 147kw @3000rpm & 470nm @ 1750-2500rpm
Certainly will transform the driving experience if they go that way.

I look at the TRD hilux with a sticker pack and a couple accessories, with no added power.
I look at the Navara N-Sport, as above.

I reckon this will be just another sticker pack with a couple accessories and same old engine.
Would be happy to be wrong!

I'd need a new job that pays a hell of a lot more before I could get anything like it whatever the result.

It wasn't a movie, it was the official teaser for the Ranger Raptor. I highly doubt they would put petrol engine spund effects to cover up a diesel.

It isn't a sticker pack, the FX4 is a (over priced) sticker pack.
Is the F-150 Raptor a sticker pack? No, among other things, it's got a 450HP ecoboost engine and off-road racing shocks as standard. The Ranger Raptor would have a similar philosophy applied.
It is a Ford Performance product, the branch of Ford that released the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Focus RS, Mustang GT350 and of course, the 24hr of Le Mans winning GT - none of these are just another "sticker pack"
