its very interesting reading peoples opinions seeing i know nothiong about holdens . i was dissapointed but i know with edits and bolt ons they are a changed beast.

You drove a SV8 after driving your GT. Of course it's going to feel slow.

That's like when I drove my TX5 after driving my new car. I could barely drive it because the clutch felt so soft.

My mate has a VX Clubsport R8 and that thing gets up and boogies pretty well. Sounds awesome too but damn the petrol would cost a lot!

Gee .. stock .. I'm impressed The one I drove didn't seem like it could outrun my 175kw AU 5.0L ..

If I wanted a drag car I'd spend the $$$ on a 390ci for my Javelin, which weighs about 300kg less than a lo-spec BA. As an all-round PSEUDO-PERFORMANCE (in the XR6-type vein) the SV8 is still (was in VY) pretty good bang-for-buck ..

Where did I say Ford are perfect. Far from it, they produce some duds too, but generally they are more consistent than the LS1. Motor proved that when they did the dyno comparison. The Boss engines were spot on where they should be and the LS1's were all over the place. They are facts. It is widely known that LS1's vary alot in power between them. :MrT_anim: :

I owned a VX Berlina with a gen 3 (225kw) a few years ago, and while the top end was good, driving around day to day it felt lethargic, unresponsive and breathless. When I hopped into the V6 Execs at work these felt better just cruising around.

As for the performance difference between a gen 3 and an XR8, to me it didn't feel like there was much in it either way - but the XR8 certainly feels a bit 'beefier' (or more v8 like) to drive.

just a simple mod such as exhaust does wonders, this is our ss, it has pacemakers 2.5 inch exhaust, 3:91 diff and CAI

and vary alot in reliability..I hear some new VE's are still munching themselves... I drove an Vy SS auto the other day mate they are slugs in standard auto form or atleast felt like that..It just didnt have that torque feel to it..id much rather my AU 220 anyday

(edit) not that im saying my AU is faster it just didnt feel like it pulled hard

First Gen3's were negated with a restricting exhaust system, First thing enthusiast did was get a better flowing system.

Our SV8(auto) feels much doughier down low compared to my wagon but when it's in the upper limits of its rev range it feels much better. Still goes very well but I guess your used to what you drive day in day out.

cold air intake,edit, exhaust = 232rwkws. I dont really consider that as building a drag car, a few relatively cheap bolt ons for a 12 sec daily driver with reliability, not to many people realise the potential in these 3 valves.

Yes, but do extractors/exhaust/tune on both a Boss 260 and the SV8 and i'll put my money on the SV8.

And my blood is as blue as it comes.

and this is where the difference is between your old windsor 220 and the ls1/boss is that yours may have the low down torque but it runs out of puff at anything over 4500 rpm and this is where the ls1 and the boss come into there own.

interesting call but i think it would be very close...
i have driven vyss(245kw) and my mates vx clubby(255kw) both manuals

vyss(full system) feels a little lazy and it shows when you line it up with the clubby
the clubby hoses it. the clubby i drove felt quick but lined up
with my baxr8(auto) before custome tune and diff gears i was
quite happy..the clubby has headers,cats exhaust and cai, rip shifter
ba (had) headers no exhaust, underpulleys, cai, and generic flash

if draggin from stand still clubby would pull a car length
and hold it until very high speeds...
dragging from rolling 50km plus and the ba would pull slightly ahead and the clubby had no hope of getting it back

i think it does come down to each car is a little different
some dont live up to the hype and some do

very little ba's with bolt ons without diff gears doing twelves
but you know.. theres very little ls1's with bolt ons without diff gears doing twelves either
