What a shame. He could make a statue eventually laugh. I loved seeing him outside his movies/stand-up, and on a talk show. He would completely take over. A comedian for comedians.

Just so sad one so talented gone too soon. Not only a comic genius but could act in pretty much any genre and do it well.

Will be sadly missed.

Ironic that someone who could make so many laugh was so sad...
He was a big part of my childhood. The kind of actor that that could make you believe anything was possible in this world. Gone far too soon. :(

So, a real comic genius. Words cannot convey...

Just goes to show, depression has no boundaries.
You can probably understand why a sad fat git like me is depressed, but Robin Williams?
It's a bastard.
Hope you found peace Robin. :-(

He wasn't a John Wayne, a James Stewart, or a Paul Newman...
Yet, for some odd reason, he was more then the superstars..
He was a comic genius, an enormous talent in serious, dark or light-hearted roles, yet he still seemed a bit like the guy next door..
Almost like we actually knew him?
Amazing man.. A once in a lifetime actor, And an absolute tragedy!
RIP Robin Williams.

Oh Robin... I'm so sad that the black dog got you. Thank you for making me smile and laugh for so many years.

For those that say it's selfish for him to commit suicide, please don't get confused between the emotion of being depressed and the disease of depression, they're very different animals. Both can cause suicide, one is more of a choice than the other.

I know, it's strange and sad isn't it? I was amazed to find out that another comedian, John Cleese, has issues with depression too :(

My prayers are with Robin's family.

I was really sad to hear this, this morning. Always loved his movies and sense of humour. Man, he was a funny guy.

Good Morning Vietnam, one of my all time favourites. I used to recite that movie line for line back when I was about 7. I can still remember that...

Rest in Peace ol' mate.

FYI, he was (apparently) also diagnosed bipolar.
My best mates younger brother took his own life late last year, he was also diagnosed bipolar. That is something that you can't really control.

Sad news, depression is a terrible disease that takes too many people before their time. The man was nothing short of a genius. His talk show interviews and stand up performances were hilarious, his acting was brilliant and from all accounts he was a genuinely kind person. I'm not sure there will ever be anyone like him again.

RIP Robin Williams

I think it goes to show no matter what someone looks on the outside and their material possessions, status in society etc, you don't know whats happening on the inside.

Needs to be a big push for people to get help I think.

Its funny, this morning I left the tv off so I didn't watch any more depressing news, only heard about this on the radio mid morning, so sad. My 9yo daughter is sad that "Mrs Doubtfire" is gone. We will have a Doubtfire/Hook/Night at the Museum movie marathon this weekend to remember this amazing talent.

Mate please, not the place or time yet for the obligatory AFF bitter comments to begin.

I heard the news at 8.45 this morning on JJJ after Zan announced it only a couple minutes after it broke, and my heart and stomach sank. As a child of the 90's, Robin Williams was every kids favourite actor, a Robin Williams move was a must see. He made so many kids and adults happy.

I'm not an emotional person, I never usually comment on these threads - I'm pretty stone cold, but with Robin Williams dies a large piece of my childhood, and for this I am deeply deeply saddened. He was a legend to me, like a friend. What a horrible day in history. We've lost a good thing, this world. Ever a warm presence on the screen. RIP Genie

As I read through this thread it makes me sadder (posted on first page). Like most I grew up with all of his movies, first one at 7 in 1990, then I watched basically anything he released, all I have been able to think about today are the movies I loved him in growing up. Actors have come and gone, but for some reason the death of Robin can bring a tear to the eye.

Like many that have posted here. I'm a child of the 90's my first memory of going to a cinema was to see Aladdin and that has stuck with me since. Every school holidays I would always watch at least one Robin Williams movie, like many others a large part of my childhood had laughter brought on by his amazing comedy skills. He was a true talent one that will be sorely missed, he was a great comedian and actor as I grew up in many ways so did his movie styles they got more mature yet with comedy elements thrown in still. I send my condolences to his family, friends and anyone who was touched by this amazing man and his talents. I feel we won't see someone like him again for a long time he was truly one of a kind.

And please anyone dancing with the black dog help is out there and anyone please you have no idea how much it means to someone that is dancing with the black dog for someone to just ask are you alright? Sometimes all it takes is just to sit and listen to them so they do not feel alone in this world. We have lost too many people to this disease.
Genie your free RIP
