Disaster, there has been a big amount of demo and press Ecoboost and EcoLPI Falcons registered this month. Lucky they cancelled local Focus... Idiots.

Predey: I agree a TV add will not make me buy a car, but it will definitely make me consider it & maybe put it on my "shopping list". Advertising at this stage for the Falcon is not about getting people to buy Falcon, it is about getting people to consider Falcon. It is up to the website, dealers, and test drivers, etc, etc to make the final sale.. And believe or not, most people buying cars, don’t visit Fords facebook account or read car magazines. |

The placement of Ecoboost on its own up here would work beautifully if it was part of a broader campaign. Trying to familiarise people with the new marketing word for a product works well, but not in isolation. Ecoboost needs a TVC and given the cost of the entire project is seems like serious false economies to save the $10k or so a pop for a prime time one. Hell even a cheaper timeslot would be better than nothing |

And the day Ford gives up trying is the day the ship truly sales...
I'm curious to see Focus sales for last month, has anyone posted them yet? |

The problem I'm finding is a lot of you say "Stupid TV ads don't make people buy cars".
But not realizing why we are generally the ones to say it, why because we are all into cars, we love cars, we modify cars... So we all don't just watch and ad that tells us nearly nothing that we are interested in and just buy it, because if they made ads for the car enthusiast it would be full of specifications that we would be interested in wouldn't it. TV advertisement works for people who want features like cruise control, maybe a touch screen with navigation, maybe they want blind spot safety features, these type of people generally aren't interested at all in if it's a straight six, if it's turbo charged, if it's quick down low. But it really goes back down to Ford doesn't try hard enough for sales all round. Ford's great, but they need to approach things better.

Well, I for one think the latest bunch of ads are perfect for what Ford is trying to achieve,
especially given the restricted volumes of imports they have to work with.. |

First of all, two words. Diesel. Falcon.
Now the reality... FoA don't need to advertise Falcon at all (and I would even imagine they don't WANT to). What they need to do is ark up and get decent stock numbers of Focus, Mondeo and Ranger. These are the vehicles people want and as soon as FoA can give them to them, they'll pull the plug on Falcon and Terry. They won't be the first manufacturer to take money from the Govt and run, either. As soon as they can get to the level where projected profit without local production is equal to or greater than projected profit with them, it's lights out. Regardless of any announcements or sentimentality. We've seen time and time again that One Ford doesn't allow for sentimentality, just good business sense. |

Be interesting to see how many Rangers Ford could move if they could match demand and supply.

the moment they move away from Falcon being the main game, people want to kill it right or wrong but the locals play a part. and that being, their incremental value to the bottom line is still important, and there's still no replacements that can do better.. |

Most of them must be sitting in the mines I reckon, because you don't see many Hilux's in the real world.

IM sure Ford will be looking towards future sales increaseing...
Nothing worse then culling a line then having the market pick up again. All the work ford are doing now is not for the FG, but for the next falcon.

I think farms go for Tritons, simply because of the warranty and cheap buy in.

What you are missing is that you already know what Ecoboost means, so the sign is pointless to you. If you didn't know what Ecoboost means, it would be pointless to you too. The word Ecoboost on a window does not mean much & as no link to Ford at all unless you know what Ecoboost is. Just because it is on a Falcon does not mean it is Ford related, as I pointed out DJR does not have Ford related signed on there windows. If there was more advertising around for Ecoboost & the word itself become more common & a brand itself as such, then I'd agree with you, but as it stands it is pretty useless. By I guess it is costing Ford nothing as they would have just have Ford anyway, so better than nothing at least.. |

Newspaper ads would do little as people would just skip the page and not only that, papers are dying. Everything is on the internet now. |

that specific spot on the windscreen for the FPVs is ALWAYS reserved for ford or any new models coming out...always...and people know this...all the other teams including the ford teams have mostly just ford at the top.
read somewhere that FORD and MAZDA where forking out 50mil together to help modify the overseas plants to boost the numbers they can import...for the RANGER that is |

What's advertising for when it comes to cars? Image, boring technical detail or driveaway specials?
I think Ford needs to be more concerned with re-building their reputation in the market beyond us Ford people. As sickening as the Holden adverts are (warm and fuzzy), it enhances their brand. The 'Have you driven a Ford lately' campaign way back was successful for these reasons. I saw a BMW M5 advert the other night and thought, how many people can actually afford this? Why would they bother spending the money on a TV advert for perhaps 10 people? Perhaps so 3-series drivers feel connected to the machine that is the M5? Ford has such a rich history globally and we need to tap into that. Shelby Cobras beating Ferraris, GT-40 is a reknowned supercar and recently the Focus RS is a class leader. I certainly agree adverts for driveaway XR6's tarnish the brand. Ok for newspaper and internet adverts, but not TV. The associated costs with TV advertising should be kept for brand awareness rather than technical detail or discounted prices imo. **** |

Screw the advertising. In my opinion non-enthuiast car people a similar to a herd of sheep. One person buys a Mazda 3, says how good it is and others follow. Many people I have spoken to have bought one because a family member or someone they know own one, said how they are happy with it, and with so much choice of vehicle in australia it simply makes the buying decision more easy. Some friends of ours recently took delivery of a 3 (sold their RAV4 for it) and didn't even consider any other brand of car, not even a test drive of another make. I asked, "Why did you downsize to a Mazda 3 when there is better cars available in this segment?" Their reply, " It's not the No.1 selling car in australia at the moment for no reason, a real no brainer."
Mmm, interesting. |
