A few muddy comments below that truthfully i dont understand.

Do these members object as they borrowed from the bank to perform a round of mods on their cars? Otherwise what is their dismay with this topic?

Not that I did for my car mods but some get loans to help with credit rating over time.

You still never answered my question from the other thread Hulky about getting a new car as old one is out dated.

What will you do when you see your kids are fuglier than others or your partner is sleeve of Wizard in comparison?

I'm going to take this as a serious question Mr Hulk I6T, even though I should know better, so here goes! If I was to spend say 20,000 bucks to refresh and slightly mod my old bomb, as you have referred to it, I would not borrow that amount. I would wait until my house is paid off and then save up to do what I wanted to my car. The difference is that my old bomb is going to be more valuable judging by the prices they can command. As long as I do not go over the top, I will not lose money/value. Even with that almost 100% guarantee (in the contemporary market) I still would not borrow that amount for car mods…

You cannot say most people get loans for large assets; I would actually think it is the other way around.

People get loans for all sorts of things. What about Holidays, the Holiday may last 2 weeks but the loan last 5 years and a heap of people take loans for holidays.

Not all loans are bad. Some people take loans because they don't have the cash up front. This does not mean they cannot afford the product it just means they do not have the cash at the time of purchase.

How about people buying massive 70 inch TV on Harvey Norman interest fee, it’s a loan.

The main reason I am getting at people do all sorts of things with loans and who cares what they do.

IMO I think it would be stupid if you could not afford the loan and modding your car, but if you can cover the loan and modding your car is what you want to do. Why not go ahead and do it.

End of the day, it is not your money so who cares what people spend it on.

just click the 'back' arrow and move on if its not something that interests you.

everyone knows Hulk chooses topics that will promote discussion/debate, and yet 95% of replies are quite simply rude and immature, and the replies are generally more offensive than the OP (which generally are not offensive).

thats says something to me, and its not about Hulk.

I used a credit card quite a lot for adjustable suspension etc on a previous car, I'm not in financial ruin, nor did the car go boom as if to reject the mods I had done simply because I didn't "own" them. I'm actually looking at buying my first home next year. So I've had a blast modifying the car, with no real world disadvantage. Just my own experience.

Strangely I tend to agree with Hulk, but does not mean it needs a thread.

I think getting a bank load to mod a car is a stupid financial decision, and not something I would ever consider, don't really consider getting a loan for anything these days, the way I see it if I don't have the money I can't buy it.

I have gotten car loans in the past but would not do so again for a personal vehicle, especially for a 'toy vehicle' or week end cruiser, if I don't have the cash then I can't buy it.

I think the 'I want it now generation' would get a loan for what ever gadget they want now but thats a fast track to no where.

Home loan is a different story, and unfortunately I will be having a small one of those again one of these days.

I personally wouldn't either loan money or spend cash on mods on car bought with loaned money but if you're not getting yourself into financial troubles by doing so then why care?

Almost all cars are depreciating assets so whether you own it or not financially it doesn't make sense but you get enjoyment from doing so.

I qualify that, I have gotten those in the past as I might as well use someone else's money as it costs me nothing to do so. As long as I have the money in the bank to pay it off when the time comes, if you have to pay interest just buy the TV outright.

If I get the loan because I can's afford the TV then I see that as a problem, others may feel different but that is how I run my finances
