I'm sorry to say I wouldn't go based on what's happened. But I've never been big on international travel.

One of my mates arrived back from bali about 3 monthes ago and was showing me the video of his trip and i realy struggle to understand why people flock there.
The bombings and schapelle verdict aside, It just seems so third world. The streets are dirty and it just has a real pov feel to it. The only reason i could come up with was that it's cheap and the weather and people seem nice. (well most of them) I feel like i live in the greatest country in the world at this point so i would much rather spend my time a money checking out australia before going overseas. I do feel for all the hardworking people over there running shops and hotels because every time one of these ****ers blows themselves up it just makes it that much harder on them. Bali's never interested me really - so that's a no, but not because of the terroism... just because Bali doesn't appeal to me.

I'de go back, I went a few years back and loved it. Those who have been, will know how friendly the local Balinese are. They are a lot different to the other Indonesians, and they even look different. It's also unfair to them as they have their way of live yet get dictated by how Indonesia is run, and the place get's used for other people's ridiculous decisions, such as the bombings and the drugs trials.
Kuta, Legian and Jimbaran Bay arent the only places worth seeing in Bali, the rest of it is a highlight too. It's a pity it has come to this |

Ive been and would've loved to have gone back for another visit. The people & the culture were so different. I did the temple tours, the monkey parks all of that and thoroughly enjoyed it!
I find it disgusting that these bombers are fine with killing so many innocent people. What have the Balinese people done to deserve this? Theyre such friendly people, I really cant understand it. I went to Bali not long after the Sari club bombings, and was shocked at just how much the lack of tourism affected the people. Its so sad that these bombers dont realise that Bali is going to suffer not just in the short term but in the long term. To get back on track, I would find it extremly hard to go back there. Yes, you could get blown up walking through any major city in Australia, but I honestly believe Bali is a terrorism hotspot. 11 attacks since December 2000 is a little too many for my liking. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=65523 Last edited by Leah; 03-10-2005 at 03:09 PM. |

How freaky was the bomb video from inside the restaurant???
Bali - I wouldn't hit it. It was always viewed as a "paradise" place when I was little. When asked at school what we thought "paradise" was, the usual answers would be Bali, Hawaii and Tahiti. I'll bet the kids in prep these days don't include Bali in that list. JI really have stuffed that place up. I feel for the locals and the victims. -Dave- |

You do live in the greatest country in the world. As bad as Australia's problems are, there not as bad as alot of other countries. By the way I wouldn't go Bali, was never interested. Rather go Europe or Canada if I was to travel outside OZ. |

Why Aussies travel to Bali for "beach" culture has got us puzzled. So many great places in aus to go for the beach. I'm going here http://www.hiltonworldresorts.com/re...Hin/index.html next week, but it's because i'm escaping the rat race of Hong Kong for a week. Qld coast is awesome, so much so i'm buying a place up there. As for other places in Asia, Vietnam is awesome and not often visited by many aussies. So many places to go, i say why Bali, it's been done to death and the only reason aussies go is because they know someone who went, we're a bit like sheep sometimes. If it's a matter of costs.... i suggest you all try www.asiarooms.com for cheap accomodation in asia. You'd be very suprised how little rooms can cost!!! Mick. Been across to Ciudad Juarez Mexico from El Paso Texas for 2 days & that put me off third world countries.
Never would go to Bali or any poor country not my idea of a holiday. The U.S.A , Canada, Australia, New Zealand & some European Countries only for me. The USA I've vistited 8 times & Canada twice great places to see. Especailly Yellowstone & Teetone national parks , Mt Rushmore in Sth Dakota & the Vermont Massachususs area of the east side. buickman |

Ive been to bali about 4 years ago, nice place nice people but DAMN they are annoying, i know they are trying to make a living i understand but they dont take no for an answer. Food is good, water sucks, beahces are ok but i dont think i would ever go back there just not the 'paradise' everyone makes it out to be. But if you do go travel to Ubud or the outer islands, kuta and legian are way to touristy.

I went there in January for a holiday and my bro went there for his honeymoon, they left Kuta the night before the bombing... and it wasn't far at all from their hotel... god knows where they could've been if they had've had and extra day or 2 there.... kinda hits home!!
I think Germany would be my next holiday

of course I would. But then again I've been in some pretty scary places around the world - when I shouldn't of been - Rwanda during civil war and ebola outbreak.
Why stop going places because of terrorist threats - I lived in London for nearly 6 years - with nearly every day's travel being disrupted by bomb threats. If it is your time to go then you will go - the universe decides and acts. I'd rather die doing something I love, or with somebody I love. Schaz |
