I think its a clever ad but the ute does nothing for me! I have seen it in the flesh and I though meh!
I am more intereted in the new wagon and I hope the wagon ad would be pretty cool. |

The add was well done. And when they 1st came out i didnt like the look of it thought well this is the one Holden stuffed up.But i saw one yesterday on my way home it was a while one and it didnt look to bad.The only bad thing on it was the tail lights. The rest of it looked ok.

Is the tray even long enough to load a motorbike in?

Maybe if they put as much money into developing One Tonne rear suspension as they did putting together a flash commercial, they would have a decent ute...but they've proven that history repeats.

im hearing a lot of good reports on the ad, and ill admit, it was very clever. much better then the release of the VE sedan ad in any case: has anyone considered test driving one yet? good to see theres a few comments filtering through about the actual ute now and not just the ad.
BTW, im glad im not the only one that thinks the ute looks like an overwieght Proton Jumbuck ute

I must say that every time i see that add it makes me want to go out and buy one... That approach to advertising is one that Ford should take with the GT. I really believe that people need to know where something comes from... You dont buy a 2nd hand car with no history do you, Why buy a new one.

I'm sure the ute will sell in record numbers seeing as Australia is much more open to sexuality than it used to be. As someone said before can you load a motorbike on the back??? The main problem I see with the maloo is that the extended tailightsmay make it harder to put a R.M Williams skull on the back. Ford should really do an ad like Holden that points out that the Ford Ute go's back to the 30's!! The Holden storm ad was good to it had people running from their cafe to the nearest Holden dealership to buy a tru blu ute. Does the new ute have latte holders instead of cup holders?? |

Maybe its my age, by I totally understand why Holdens ute exists. The Ford Ute is a trady ute, pie and cady bar wrappers on the passenger seat and a ton of blocks in the back, good honest and hard working.
The Holden ute is: Dual income no kids or kids left home, toy carrier. Lets go bush, lets pop out for dinner, lets go to the beach house (thinks to Sirix from LS1 for his new toy carrier pic). If I didn't have kids and needed to carry my toys, I know whose bank my dollars would be in. |

Never know why Holden drivers put Chev badges on their cars. The VE Holden seems a better car than most current or past Chevrolets.
Seems like devaluing a good car to me. Funnily enough VE is badged as a Daewoo in China, but you dont see many OZ VE owners updating to Daewoo badging. Wonder why. |

Chevs are just the same as a holden, hence why the daewoos that are badged as Holdens here are badged as Chevrolet's in the UK. I think most people put on a Chevrolet Badge because they just don't really like Holdens.

Yeah I had 2 mates buy VZ utes, ended up returning them. V6 is gutless, auto gearbox belongs in the VN. Look good with the candy wrapper colours, but not a real UTE. Holdens ute evoloution really ended with the WB.

Me , i don't mind it at all. I can understand a ford site not having a flattering opinion though. What i have found interesting is that holden have stated that over 80% of their utes are sv6 or ss models. So they have decided to concentrate on that segment. Yet they are getting flogged here for payload. Has anyone actually looked up the payload for any of the falcon utes that dont have the one ton suspension????? I thought not, might be worth having a look first , hey. It says that the manual ss can tow 1600kg yet the manual xr8 ute can only tow 1200kg. Once you take the blue goggles off, you may appreciate what they have done. Then again maybe not. I will continue to appreciate performance cars as a whole holden or ford.

I took the new Holden Ute (in SSV guise) for a test drive today. I must admit, they have done a great job on the 6 speed auto and NVH levels within the cabin. The Ute itself looks great from the front to just behind the cab. The rear half is just all wrong. The top of the tub is too far off the ground, and the there is too much room between the rear bumperetts and the top of the tailgate. The interior looks great, and the room behind the seats is much improved. They have done a good job on this model ute, and comparing it to the SP Ute I just sold it is in the ballpark, but I will wait and see what Orion brings to the table before deciding if Holden has a better hay hauler that Ford.

I like the front of it, not a fan of the tail light's thou. The real advantage of having a Falcon ute apart from it being better and being able to carry weight in the tray is that it stands out more, and you distance yourself from the rest of the 19-30Yo pretty boy's in there SS Ute's that don't know what that big empty space where the back seats and boot used to be is for.

Ohh, was i just on the ford website, & it showed there ,that with myself & my kingquad in the back it would be overloaded if i was driving a ute like yours : I know its a forum , but at least try to cut back on the urban myths a bit, we are talking utes , not phase 111s. I wouldnt be bragging about my 495kg load capacity if i was you. even with leaf springs
Here are some sums. driver & passenger 200kg plus king quad 300 kg........ woops over weight in your turbo. But under weight in the new ss ssv or sv6 or omega ute. Last edited by weenie; 02-11-2007 at 05:02 PM. |

I've heard of many problems with BA utes with a full payload, especially with the Melbourne Fire Brigade who had a BA Ute with two rear axles that needed the diffs replaced frequently.
That said, the VE Ute looks too much like a toy, but that's the market it's aiming for. Hilux is a more reliable choice to many. On the other hand, the AU Ute seemed to be much more reliable than BA-BF, hence why you see many tradies still using them.

People will buy it.
It has never been as hard-core as the Falcon for a fair few years now - be interesting to see how it affects sales now they have gone to the SWB |

Stick 500Kg in a Falcon ute and 500kg in a SS ute, see what one sites and rides better and doesn't chew up rear tyres, there is a reason Toyota and Nissan both offer leafs' in there work utes, cause they carry load and take punishment better than a Coil.

i haddnt seen any Maloo's until just then. now i see why there is no room for the R.M. Williams Bull horns. and my god, i thought the normal ute was bad from the rear! excuse me while i go and hurl.
And just a thought, i think weenie is getting a little cut over some comments here. I would just like to say to him/her/shim....your in a non-holden forum pal.....you should expect to hear some realistic comments on some of the cr@p holden releases....perhaps your in your own little world with holden plasted all over your walls and bed in your bedroom. Just remember where the ute came from.....its a Ford idea

Am I the only one here that thinks it looks all right even in the HSV Guise... I really do like it. It stands out and looks different to anything else on the road (except the jumbuck) but who cares... i bet this thing sells in the 100,000's and proberly not a dissapointed customer... Tell me honestly if that thing left the factory with a Ford badge on it you know you would like it. Brand Name bashing at its best, why not start hammering the SangYongs them things dont have a pretty pannel in their body...
Cheers NudgE

I am sure that the farmer and his wife that asked for something to carry the hay to the back paddock and the missus to the Sat night dancing would consider it their idea. Ford just listened and built it (with some liberal copying of the Pickups which had existed for 30 years), they did however name it a Utility (cause pickup had already been used??). |
