Working in a dealership myself (not Ford), most of the apprentices are better than the 'mechanics'. Most dealership mechanics are the bottom of the barrel. They get paid peanuts for a reason. Just about all the mechanics at my work are whinging old pricks who lack the skills or work ethic to get a job in a real workshop.

As for Ultratune and K-Mart, hate to tell you, but they are just dealerships that work on more than one badge. As such they know even less about your car than the Ford guys who work on a hell of a lot more of them.

You can save money here and there. Supply your own oil. All dealerships charge at least double what they should. Ask what oil they use, buy 5 litres of it, leave it on the passenger seat and say you want it used.

Brake pads? Don't get genuine ones. There are better pads out there for less money. Lowest bidder, anyone? Mark old parts and make sure they are changed.

Fuel additives and such....**** factor. Don't even bother.

Dealerships will always try to rob you blind. I can think of dozens of rip offs off the top of my head without even getting into the cost of spare parts.

mine being the EB i service it myself, tuesday i went and bought parts

oil : $15 approx (it came in a 205l drum that im only half way through)
oil filter: $6
blow out air filter: $free
check coolant level $free

Trans
Gasket and filter kit $25
replacement trans fluid $85 used 12l and did converter as well

Diff
check diff oil level $free

took me approx 3 1/2 hours

if youve got the know how and dont have a warranty to deal with DIY!!!!

how places can charge $85 for oil and filter is unbelievable
