Whilst dogs are technically omnivores, it should be pointed out they are predominantly carnivores.

We've got a three year old ginger Border collie named Scarlett, always had black and whites but got her to match my Cortina, orange with cream interior. She's a great cruising mate...
We alternate between chicken frames and beef bones for dinner. She gets a bit of dried food which we put into puzzle toys, she doesn't have a food bowl, have done it this way since day one. She's a typical hypo collie so it helps keep her busy and quiet for a while.

Read my post from the start and its clear that is the point I was making. I only added the correct term because it was inevitable somebody would call me on it in the pursuit for correct knowledge this forum often is.

My sister has a Lab x Kelpie x Lab and he's an amazing dog, so much personality and always happy. When he was a pup she gave him chicken necks not realising he was too young for them. Poor boy pooped out all the bones still perfectly formed! Must have been a painful poop for him!

Although still on about dogs I am changing the subjet to my pet peeve that bloody disease PARVO if you love your dog and he/she has not had treatment for this then I dont give a flying shoit if your 'friend' dies from it.
I own a pet cremation business and over the past 18 months have seen a marked increase of dogs deaths from this incideous disease. If you cannot afford $80 - $100 for a 12 month treatment ...and the possible can go inexcess of $2k then get rid of your dog....you dont deserve the pleasure of having such a faithful friend. Dont give me excuses they are always in the yard or we live on a block and never see other dogs.. I do not care if I've affended you, in fact I am pleased because you just might do something. Ive dealt with 3 clients directly over the past week whose dogs have died from lack of bloody treatment. Tday I sent one client away in tears because I let her have it full guns and anger blazing. stupid biotch "Oh I couldnt afford it" To those of you who are caring for your mutt and keeping up treatments and injections I salute you. End of rant but not anger. If a treatment

When I first got Ed my vet told me to keep him isolated for the first 12 weeks to prevent parvovirus till he got his injections. So for the first 2 weeks I did. Being my first dog I listened. But something didn't sit right with me so I went to another vet and asked and he said this was the worst advice he had ever heard as parvo can be brought in on our clothes, hands, even shoes. So I took him out straight away and he was fine.

Parvovirus can affect all ages and breeds of dogs, but it is more threatening to puppies younger than four months and unvaccinated dogs, the AVMA said.
Until your dog is current with his vaccinations, there are a number of additional steps you can take to keep him and other dogs safe from parvovirus: Keep puppies five months of age and younger away from pet superstore floors, dog park grounds, and anywhere else sick or recently adopted dogs might roam. Carry puppies across animal hospital floors, and don’t let them sniff dark corners. If you recently adopted a dog from an animal shelter or other source where she may have been exposed, keep her away from puppies for a couple of weeks. If your dog is sick, avoid taking him to public areas. Promptly dispose of your dog’s waste in a safe manner. The ASPCA recommends cleaning potentially contaminated surfaces and objects with household bleach in a 1:32 dilution. Let the bleach sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. Wash your hands and change your clothes soon after handling a dog that is sick or might have been exposed. Do not take your puppy or un-vaccinated dog to places where you are unsure of the vaccination history of other dogs. do some research

Why run the risk if you don't have to? We live in a great country with very few ''nasties'' and those we do have, there are preventions for. Get your children & pets vaccinated. Practice some basic hygiene and pick up after your dog, if you can't then leave animal ownership to those of us who want to do it and know pets are for life.

The kelpie is a very special Aussie breed that is getting hugely popular overseas..likewise the blue and red heelers..Highly desirable.., we may not have exported our Falcons to the wide world but our dogs , especially the kelpies are making their mark all over the place.. It doesn't get much better than a kelpie and a border collie..a win-win for sure..You'll enjoy this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDaBJOMdOsY . Cheers Rod.. |

I have 3 dogs, one is a puppy, the other two are 12 and 13 years old. My dogs pretty much eat anything I eat, any leftovers I have they eat, If I eat a steak I feed them the strip of fat. I have kids who drop food all the time and feed the dogs whatever they have, so they also eat chocolate, chips, bread etc. Basically everything dogs shouldn't eat. While this is probably not the ideal diet, they do enjoy eating a big rind of fat. I think of it this way, imagine me, a human, is being kept as a pet by a superior being who knows that things like fatty foods, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and pizza were bad for me and so chooses not to feed them to me, instead opting to feed me steamed vegetables, grilled chicken breast and tofu... well I may live to 100 but I'd be miserable and boring! I'd rather live to 70 doing what the F I want! Oh and don't start me on neutering... |

Just a short story about the combination of dogs and car enthusiasts.
A very good mate of mine who is in his 60's and has a very nice and valuable collection of GT Falcons that are all in pristine condition got a new dog a few years ago, a little fox terrier. I asked him if it was male or female to which he replied, "Female, I've never had a male dog, they c**k their legs and p*ss on your wheels". I had a laugh to myself and thought wow, that's taking car enthusiasm to a whole new level! |

On a recent camp trip I'm sitting back having a beer when I notice a liquid dripping down inside the wheel on my 4x4. I'm thinking, damn, I have a leaking axle seal or leaking brake caliper. I get up and inspect it and realise its p*ss, from my 6yo son of course. Stupid kid! One of his favourite things to do is jump out of my falcon after I stop driving to pee on the hot brake rotor to make p*ss steam. |

I have to run mine or they go stir crazy, after a hard run they are fine. I was aware of this when I bought mine.

We got her as a pup from family friends ... they didn't like that she was tearing their backyard apart. We freed her ... and let her have the run of the main 3-odd acres around the house that was well fence .... she ran all day ... chased anything that flew across "her domain" ... would bark at cars that went down the shared driveway (but never went out through the main gate if it was left open). Was best mates with our cat as well (still have the cat now) ... they used to sleep together. When he had to move back to suburbia I could bear the thought if containing her in a normal backyard .... so we seeked a new home for her. Found a lady that had a lot of border collies and lived out country further. Was sad to see her go, but happy in a way that she was going to a loving owner and had plenty of room to run (and make new friends). Awesome dogs. If i move back out onto acreage I'd get another one again for sure. Asleep on the deck in the sun Low flying dog
