Despite being a success in Australia, Mazda struggle pretty much everywhere else in the world and are expecting a record loss this year. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/31/...perating-loss/ Investing in an all new inline six and RWD platform doesn't really compute unless they have plans to share with another manufacturer. I'm sure it will be good, but the current Mazda 6 is excellent and hasn't sold as well as expected globally, and the US in particular.

Sales for it in Australia will probably be on par with what the Stinger has achieved, so very small number. But I'm glad Mazda are doing it, they seem very driven by a visual/engineering concept of who they are and RWD can only add to it.
But if they do a ute....

I think part of the strategy is Mazda is aiming to become a semi-premium brand (similar to VW in relation to other brands in the VAG empire) and RWD and a straight six is seen as part of that. I'm not complaining, I think a straight six RWD Mazda 6 could be a great thing, and it's a pity we don't have more cars like that. They're the only Japanese manufacturer who seem to have a hint of soul or stand out design these days.

Hear hear.
What with all of the laws in Australia I'm suprised and disappointed that there isn't one which makes it illegal to own anything but a Ford or Holden for your first and second new car purchases. I find it criminal and insane that we're buying Asian cars when they're not buying our cars. It just makes sense to have a strong manufacturing base here in Australia just in case we ever need to go to war with Asia again and need to manufacture tanks and light armored vehicles. In fact when me and Cozza are prime minister/vice prime minister we will make sure that there is a thriving post-apocalyptic car hot rodding and manufacturing industry again. Using the spoils of all of those foreign cars and manufacturing side draught carburetted engines that run on woodgas and LPG. |

All you need to do to resurrect the Falcon is turn it into a new Supra with a boxer 6 engine instead of a straight six. A boxer 6 in a 4 liter size would sound demonic especially if you gave it ecoboost.
Ford can then use their expertise on the Barra motor and turn it into a new class of sports car. One that can tow a 25 foot caravan but also has really good weight distribution. |

Never really liked their business approach here as much as I love our Falcons. Do as little as you can to get away with made it hard to swallow as the years went by to the end, the obvious budget restraint due to Dearborn from way back hence some bitterness towards them. No more Falc, glad I have a couple so not missed but sad no updates.

I miss the excitement build up, then the articles in Motor and Wheels, the new one in the showroom, then the performance models coming out. I don't get excited by anything new now, so I just keep buying the last of the falcons. I wouldn't mind a Force 6 for my next replacement of my XR6T. Sure they are not as fast as the current hot hatches, or as safe as the latest BMWs, but I don't care. Give me that big family car feeling, the whiny diff/gearbox, the easy to replace brakes, the size of those seats, and I am happy

Here's a Ford just a few minutes from me. 8.5K.
Needs some TLC inside but don't think I've ever seen one! |

Found one of my old cars last week. I paid $8000 for this paint job 13 years ago...
Either I got ripped or someone has done something nasty to the paint. Heartbreaking to see it. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Looks as though it's been parked in the sun, unwashed & the clear coat has eventually failed... Would probably happen to any red coloured car over a 13 year period & under those conditions.

The bloke that owns it reckons that it has always been under cover but who knows...

I had an EL the same colour and even though I looked after it my ex started taking it to work for 5 years the paint was ruined. Parked in the sun all day or under trees and got bird**** on it all the time. |

Even more uninspiring with all their price rises since local manufacturing ended, 27K base Corolla, low 30's base SUV version of it (CH-R, same platform), when just recently Falcons and Commodores could be had for mid 30s
Trying to be inspired by it too, what would I go for? Top 10 sellers, none of them, maybe a Cruiser if I had the spare 100K

Was looking for a truck tray reasonably local. A tray that should be around $500 are now hovering at $4000 - $6000.

And there it is. Falcon wasn't just a car. It was badge which showed your colours and a way of life.
