Is it fair to say, the majority of those who have commented thus far in the thread are not in the market for the last Falcon? So does it really matter, you'll still buy it in 3-5 years once the value of them drops.

I too heard that it was a cost of homologation thing. I thought these were random letters with no real meaning, but apparently not. For some reason if the new designation doesn't include FG then it turns it into a new car for homologation rather than a mid-cycle upgrade. If true, then Ford probably had a very limited number of options so maybe FG X is the best of a bad bunch?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet." It is all about how it looks and feels. And I LOVE the look and from everything I have heard from test drivers, it feels even better. I probably won't be able to afford one for like 10 years or more. I expect that because they are the last Falcons they will hold their value better than previous models...especially the XR8 and other high end models. Regardless of what name they have.

Not sure how this is a nod to 60 years of tradition? The Falcon has NEVER had a 3-letter code.
Frankly this is EITHER a very deliberate insult to Australia Ford Fans, or a sad indication of the cancerous stupidity that has engulfed FoA. MOST people buying or driving a car would have no clue as to the model designation, its really only the enthusiasts that care. As for the "oh they had to call it that, otherwise its a whole new car and costs them more" Would you like to buy my shares in the Harbour Bridge? Or perhaps my "Bathurst Edition" AU Futura? If there was even a drop of truth in that, then it would still be called the EA-Y-3-A

I'm amazed how worked up some people get over the naming of a model of car. I realise theres history and heritage there, but surely its the actual car that counts.

Significant feedback?
More like significant failback. If Ford au wanted any feedback, all they needed to do is search this data bible of a website. |

I read somewhere many years ago that all new models have to be crash tested which costs millions of dollars but if they update a car like BF II they dont have to spend this money. This is most likely why it still has a FG code.

Who puts out a (BS) press statement for a god damn model code that the average person couldn't car less about?
All people need to know, is that it is a new Falcon FFS. |

Never heard of that one mate not saying your wrong. Far as I know if they change the structure of the car they do. That is why the FGX will have the same driving position all the magazines whinge about time n time again. To change the seat mounts would require crash testing = dollars they don't have. I've owned an FG F6 awesome car! I'm 6'2" and never had a drama with the seating position was a joy to drive. They exaggerate everything to justify their existence lol

FG, FG2, FGX
It just seems to me that the the 'X' is simply replacing a '3', which to me fits with the fact that the car is an FG Mk3. It came across as sort of weird at first, but after a while it seems fitting.

I can only imagine the moaning and groaning if Ford Au had dared call it FG111.............In the scheme of things FG with a 'Goodbye' X at the end may not be such a bad choice given the exterior refresh and updates appear to be quite substantial

The reality of what whe have here is, the FGX is not a "new" car as far as certain bodies are concerned, so they can get away without meeting new regulations that would have killed off the falcon...
3 letters are bad? 3-letter designations are used world wide...why not here? E90. R34, V35... I get the feeling though, that there would have been whinging no matter what...
