to me (and i am biased), many ford fans are like yourself. they may be one eyed, but they are much more accepting of others. it is hard to explain without sounding hypocritical, but, there does not seem to be such a mob mentality among ford fans. maybe it is because the lowest common denominator follows holden. similar to collingwood and maybe manly in the nrl. most of the holden, collingwood and manly supporters are not morons, but the morons seem to be drawn to them and then help to make the stereo-type image more negative personally i am unsure why someone would drive past a whole lot of holdens to potentially try and annoy them. it seems a little immature to me. having said that, the profanities were probably limited to a small number of holden owners there and probably a good time was had by most |

It seems to me that Ford owners are different, not just on the forums. Ford owners seem to be able to acknowledge a nice car when they see one even if it's a holden. And the ford crowd is a different kind of crowd, its hard to explain but having spent time on both sides you should know what i mean. on forums most of the time they give quality advice when its asked for. they dont thread jack and then go on about what part would be good in there car when its not about there's, not just one or two people, 80% of the reply's are like this. this is simply my experience over the last 3 months so maybe im just hitting there forums at the wrong time right now. And when i say im still a ford fan, not holden, they seem to get rather angry where as when you come on here and say your a holden fan, most of us dont flame the crap out of you and tell you to get off (insert many other profanities). i have even received abusive PM's about owning a HSV and still being a ford fan...... go figure Last edited by fordomatic; 21-08-2011 at 11:04 AM. |

I do understand what you're trying to say, but I've been around Holdens and Fords nearly all my life and to me there's not a whole lot of difference between a genuine Holden enthusiast compared to a Ford one. We're not a separate race. Unfortunately there seems to be more blokes simply interested in doing burnouts in Commodores than being genuine enthusiasts of them, so yes in that regard I do agree with gtxb67 that it fuels the negative stereotype. Research into how group rivalries operate tell us that:
We only have to be aware of another group existing to start disliking/distrusting it. We always think our group is intrinsically better than another group, that everyone in the other group is the same, and that our group has a wide variety of members who are all lovely in a different way. So in a nutshell, just the existence of Holden and Ford camps is enough to create rivalry, we tend to think that Holden supporters are dole bludging, aggressive ferals, that most of them are like that, and that all Ford supporters are decent and nice people in their own special way. Regardless of whether or not it's true. It's just how we're wired and how groups tend to operate.

I know many people of rival things have a go at each other all for a bit of fun.
But if you start to get abusive then that is just too far. I doubt Holden fans are there only ones who do it, there would be Ford fans who do it as well. Probably notice it with Holden fans more because they are so poular they attract real enthusiasts, as well as people who are just looking for somewhere to fit in. |

There are gits from either side, on any forum. Unfortunately in my experience, the majority of hot headed gits on the road that have acted like that have been Holden owners, but I know plenty of guys that own a Holden and are decent blokes. They don't try and puff up just because I have a Ford, and try to prove a Holden is better. They simply acknowledge that these XRT's and FPV's alike are great cars and everyone of them acknowledge that they would love to have one in their garage. Funny enough the only thing stopping them is that they are seen as die hard Holden fans and to own a Ford, they would be looked upon with a frown. That's a sad view to have.
Although these types of people that shout profanities at you while driving, egg you on for a drag etc, are everywhere, you’ve just got to try and ignore them at best. They feed off your responses so don’t respond. Hopefully the main group (and organisers) would look down upon that sort of behaviour. Surely they wouldn’t support those people from their club. I’m sure we wouldn’t, what is there to prove by it all... I hope you just let them look silly and drove on casually.

The rivalry between ford and holden fans is a weird one. Essentially they like the same things i.e powerful big rwd cars. The difference is styling and most likely what there friends or family liked growing up that influenced there decision.
I was going to go to the cruise yesterday but woke up sick so couldnt go. It would have been a good day. The worst thing on cruises is when people who have no real interest in attending for the right reasons and just turn up to bait people. I was on a commodore cruise once and we were all on the highway when some moron in a xr6t pulled along the cars trying to race everyone. It must have been his first performance car because he though it was a world beater. Only one guy on the cruise took the bait but he could do it with confidence because he had a twin turbo 383 stroker engine under the bonnet. The xr6 driver disappeared pretty quick after getting embarrassed. |

We had the Pacific Ford total performance day (with dyno day) a few weeks back and there was a couple of Turbo VE V8's turn up to run on the dyno as they must have been affiliated with the dyno operator. Now these cars were tough 1x VE V8 wagon and 1x VE V8 Ute both were Turbo mind you, they did get a lot of strange looks. Now i thought these cars were nice (Moreso the wagon), but i found it odd that they had turned up to run a on the dyno at a day that was dedicated to Fords. A Ford did win the dyno comp thank god Then a guy in a 'Modified' VE Omega turned up drove in to where the cars were being showed mind you, this guy drew a few laughs from the crowd etc but there was no hostilities at all, just more annoyance that they had came to a Ford day.

Whenever im on cruises i behave myself and in general most people do. The worst thing you could do is gain the attention of the police when u have alot of highly modified cars in one place. Last edited by ray38l; 21-08-2011 at 04:07 PM. Reason: Spelling |

there is knob jockeys in every group, Ford, Holden whatever. if it's a Holden only cruise let them have there fun. Ezz gr8 post, we were all young and stupid once, but, some people grow up. the street scene in Sydney 15 years ago, before the creek and Sydney dragway was crazy, sooo many cars and yeah it was alot of fun, you would see some of the biggest drag racers in Australia, at those get togethers in Granville/Auburn etc (won't say any names to protect them ) since the track opened none of them race on the street anymore. take it off the streets and onto the track, your nothing but a fool if u race on the street endangering people lives n property. I'd say that no matter what, if it was advertised as an Holden only event, then you will get people unhappy about having a ford turn up. They want an exclusive Commodore cruise.
If you look at this forum, quite often you will see FPV only cruise and only FPV's are welcome. And the same with some clubs. They only allow certain models of cars in. So theres some exclusive events, I guess it's good for a bit of a stir, but you can't blame the reaction.

I see the humour in this, and the leering and jeering is to be expected, however after going on a few cruises with AFF members it's a different world going to a Holden event.
I've sat on both sides of the fence and currently I'm driving for the Red team, however that doesn't mean I don't have Blue blood! The swearing, name calling and insults etc are not so much because they are a Holden driver, but (as far as I can make out) more to do with social ideologies and (dare I say it) economic means. I was born and raised thinking my grandfathers VK commodore was the best thing since sliced bread, however no member of the family banged on about how it was an "Australian Car" etc. I did however take the stance that it was better than a Ford, as all my friends (who also owned Commodores or Holdens) backed me up on this stupid and short sighted view, so it MUST be right! I then found my AU Fairmont Ghia after a friend told me to stop being a bigot, and it had everything, EVERYTHING! Leather, power everything, wood grain trim, VCT 6cyl engine, smooth handling etc etc. This challenged me to look at why I'd thought about things in such a black and white sort of way, so I deduced a few facts: 1. We were all driving Holden vehicles 2. We didn't have a lot of money 3. We had family who either owned or had owned Holdens and backed them in the V8's I can name at least 5 different Commodores from VL - VX in my area for sale, all for less than $3000. If you look at a stereotypical "bogan", they are not well off, have a strong sense of nationalism and this would "possibly" be a reason crude, uncultured, bias, loudmouthed individuals in commodores swear at Fords in front of their kids. Jumping forward a few years, I bought my current car over an XR8 for two major reasons. 1. Price - Try finding a manual 2003+ XR8 for under $16K (at the time) 2. Parts - LS1's are more common than herpes The summary of all my ramblings is that for the most part, people who appreciate cars will always have some sort of bias, this can be due to many things, and I firmly believe economics as well as "National Pride" comes into play here. At the end of the day, if it floats your boat, good on ya. I'm now going to kick back with a VB, light up a Winnie Blue, give the Kelpie a scratch behind the ear while listing to some AC/DC on the back of my neighbours Kingswood Ute.... while wearing a flanno and stubbies. |

Im just going to weigh in on this a little for one reason. I had the opportunity this year to go to both Sydney All Ford Day and the Sydney Holden Day the weekend after. Sydney AFD: Everyone seems quite pleasant, neatly dressed, mainly looked well kept(shaven & clean), well mannered and just an overall good vibe from the place. The only downer I heard was that they turned away a bloke with a Model T with a Chev motor, take that anyway you want I guess. Sydney Holden Day: Was a really good turn out like the AFD, maybe even more cars attended. But, the people there, there were people there more noticeably bogan, blokes walking around with torn trackie dacks, holes in shirts, more mullets than a Billy-ray Cyrus concert, blokes looking like they'd just crawled out from under a rock and the language... Sheesh, some people there was like listening to Once Were Warriors. And the last thing that sets the Red apart from the Blue, I've never been to a Ford car event where they have burnt a Holden, yet at the Holden Day, they do it every year and the masses of "enthusiasts" rejoice in watching the show and they snear and make jokes about what that piece of ****** deserves... So thats my observation. You could say I may have felt uncomfortable for the reason being that im a biased Ford supporter, It maybe a small part, but there seemed to be a lot of bad karma there.

Just for the record, a lot of Americans consider the XR and SS body kits on our Falcons and Commodores far too much like "Ricers".

there will always be a holden with a bigger motor then a ford, and always a ford with a bigger motor then a holden. There will also be a moronic "bogan" driving a holden, just as there will be a moronic "bogan" driving a ford.
Older holdens, VN, VPs etc seem to be more cheaper, readily available and sort after by "bogans" of the population then there are fords. This attracts the stereotype holden drivers get. If us true blue ford drivers say that all commo drivers are reckless, abusive bogans then we are no better. Some harmless jokes can and always will be taken wrongly by some on both "sides". That's life. It happens with a lot of things. the OP was invited to the event (not formally i dont believe?) but he was invited by friends, and had a harmless bit of fun. EDIT: Personally my observation of holden vs fords fans is similar to AC's post above, but there are idiots on both sides, and great, helpful blokes on both sides

Whats up with people getting upset with this post. As said, innocent fun where he has come across a few bogans and had a laugh.
To feel that is wrong is the same sort of attitude we have to blame for Australia being such a PC nutty country it is today.
