i don't think so, the new evo has 2 different models,
gsr-
rs-

and the rs does it quicker than gsr, so that mean they will be equel with sti.

STI's have been generally quicker over the last few years at Targa Tassie though.

We will have to see but I'm hoping the STi is faster. The new EVO donk is an aluminum-block, open deck engine aswell so may not be as bullet proof as before.

Quote:
The last STi was a tiny bit quicker around the track than the evo IX - but the 06/07 STi has standard semi-slicks
The EVO 9 has Active Yaw Control though so I would have thought that would cancel out any advantage held by running sem-slicks.

They are both ugly as hell though. Glad I got peanut WRX even though it may be slower :

They have ruined the WRX, but I love the look if the new EVO (especially the front). I predict a lot of Subaru fans defecting over to Mitsu

I assume you're in NZ where the Legacy GT-B has 206kw....
The "Liberty" GT-B here in Aus has 184kw & 339Nm.
The WRX STi has 206kw & 392Nm.

Both use the 2.5 motor

I dunno why people love the Evo's so much.

I rented a 4 banger Lancer at Ft. Lauderdale Airport two weeks ago... the car is slow, and very very thirsty!

My V8 grandpa Vic gets better gas mileage on the highway!

A lot of people are saying they will. The only saving grace Subaru has is if the new STi is the killer it's meant to be.

So you rented a standard ES Lancer and it was slow. The conclusion drawn from this experience is that EVOs must be slow too? Most people like EVOs because they're arguably the best bang for your buck sports car in the world.

Re the topic of the Liberties...

Subaru Liberty GT Spec B
2.5litre DOHC 16-valve Turbocharged Horizontal 4-cylinder
184kW @ 6000rpm
339Nm @ 3600rpm

Subaru Liberty GT Tuned by STi
2.5litre DOHC 16-valve Turbocharged Horiztonal 4-cylinder
194kW @ 6000rpm
350Nm @ 2800rpm

These are current, 2007 models. The GT is $55,990 and GT Tuned by STi is $65,990.

There was a Liberty GT STi in 2005 (pre Euro III emissions regs) which had the following specs...

2.0litre DOHC 16-valve Turbocharged Horizontal 4-cylinder
200kW @ 6400rpm
343Nm @ 2400rpm

Those are not Euro III emissions regs compliant and therefore were no longer sold here after 01/01/2006.

If they would do something with those tail lights I reckon it will look almost ok in STi form.

Yeah it would go along way but still looks crap to me. The good thing is that they have done a bit to separate the WRX and STi.

I think they are trying to move previous WRX owners into the STi and more people into the WRX that might not have bought one before. A good indicator is that the WRX has 2 pot and STi has 6 pot brakes.

They say the 2 pots go as good as the 4 pots but they look gay and ditto for the rims.

Then why would you quote power figures for a car that's not even available in Aus on an Aus forum?
If you (the general population, not you, Magpie)didn't know anything about Subaru then some may not know about it being called a Legacy in all other parts of the world. It just clouds peoples judgment and confuses the issue being discussed.

I never quoted power figures :

That's a very arrogant attitude you have there, there is life outside of Australia you know.

Yeah....you did (same power......but no figures still means the same thing)

There was not one ounce of arrogance in my post.
I was merely stating that I can't walk into a Subaru showroom here in Australia and buy a 206kw Liberty GT-B spec.
Have a look at my other car. A "Legacy" B4 RSK (an NZDM car at that).I know very well about life and cars outside of Australia. When a vehicle is sold in this country with a different spec to that in another country, it's pointless saying that it has the same power as (whatever you're comparing it to) if it's not available in this country, that's all.

I'd guess the Lancer is probably a better car beyond 9/10th's driving which makes for great reading in magazines. In the real world, the Subaru will outsell it based on the reliability, safety, resale and other intrinsic "Subie" strengths.

No, I failed to connect the dots like I ment to but was typing faster than I could think and skipped a few important sentenses.

the Lancer like the Evo is basically the same size. which means they're fairly tiny cars. the standard Lancer is slow, whereas the Evo is fast and great bang for the buck but nevertheless its very small, therefore perhaps not very practical for big blokes like me, there I've sait it, lol.

Reliability and safety? EVO's are notoriously reliable, as are STi's, but EVO's don't pop gearboxes as much (bar the idiots who flog the 6 speeds at the track) EVO X has a 5 star safety rating, I assume STi will too. Resale is around the same for 07 models too - most go for around $55k-$58k. I'd like to know what the other intrinsic "Subie" strengths are?

Haha, it's all good. I actually find mine quite roomy. I'm 6"2, 100kgs and have no dramas fitting in the leather clad JDM bucket Recaros. Each to their own.

The new lancer s much bigger. I'm 6'3 and not exactly slender and I fit in the Lancer quite comfortably - it's practically the same size as a Mazda 6.

I've noticed that, my neighbor just got one.

It has that hood forward design like the 05+ Mustang which makes it look bigger than the 99-04 Mustang even though it isn't really much bigger.

$60,000 and only 13.5sec 1/4 miles

If you were really looking for bang for your buck. Head to the wreckers spend 2,000 on a straight shell and 40,000 on performance parts. Now thats bang for your buck. Considering both the WRX and EVO get owned by the humble Focus in the Rally championship I cant understand the hype. Much better cars available in Australia for that price.

But a car isn't defined by how fast it goes down the quarter mile is it? I've seen stock ADM EVO 9's do 13.2, and JDM EVO 8 MR's do 12.9. Rally championship isn't really viable as a comparison for road cars either is it? I mean come on... You can have an EVO 9 now with about 25-30k on the clock for $45-$50k. Already there you have a very capable road and track car and for a few grand it'll run low 12's and 1:08's around Wakefield. What are some other cars for around $60k (I'll give you 60k even tho a 9 can be had cheaper) that'll be a better all round car? Not just faster in a straight line. Real cars on sale today - not a Datsun 120 with a chook cooker in it.

I'm thinking maybe an F6 Typhoon? Are they around that price? I was looking at these second hand before I bought my EVO - they are quite a nice package, but that interior. :

Some specs for the MY08 STi but I'm guessing these are the JDM version. From what has been posted other forums

Quote:
(308PS) 304hp/6400rpm; (43kgm) 311lb-ft/4400rpm
(mm) 4415 x 1795 x 1475
(inch) 173.8 x 70.7 x 58.1
weight 1480kg/3263lb (1470kg/3241lb for 17" and 18" BBS option)
If you can't read it well it says 227kw @ 6400rpm and 422nm @ 4400rpm.
