This is cool. Glad to hear there seems like a resolution is in sight.

*******************UPDATE************************* *****

Hey guys!

Absolutely stoked right now - the moron that smashed my car up rang me this morning sounding terribley worried pleading that he would pay for every cent of the damage if i can please drop the charges (which i wont, till i have the money). So im on my way to pick up some quotes and my car should soon be back to new!!! After endless midnight runs to the police station, over 50 phone calls, networking through all this blokes mates, etc - and considering i didn't even see him do it, and everyone denied seeing a thing at the beginning, i think i've found out ALOT! Honestly never thought i'd see a cent, and up until this morning i thought the police had been extremely slack and thought they'd do nothing even with me putting the info on their desks.

So happy to see some actual justice!

Ah good news. The police probably didn't do anything, it was more the worry of having a record that got him thinking.

Good to hear, strange how things can turn around so quickly when they realise how much trouble their in. Did you get any pics of the damage at all?

Sounds like the police did their jobs well - I was going to say forget insurance as you will pay an excess + future premiums will go up ect. - but looks like already sorted. Police did a similar thing for me a while back (guy coughed up for a broken windscreen.) As much as I cant stand them (police) over traffic "offences" in my opinion they do a great job at the GD stuff and following crap up like this.

Sounds good....now wait to see actions instead of words.

Perhaps a slab for the coppers wouldn't go astray seeing they have (potentially) saved you hundreds.

When I was on the tools a guy used to bring his car in for service with a slab in the boot....for his $36 outlay he used to get looked after like a VIP...blokes wanted to work on his car just they were entitled to a few cans at the end of the day. Everyone knew that car by sight!...all for $36. Now I work in and office, one of our suppliers bring in a box of doughnuts when they visit...it is repaid tenfold in the effort we go to sort things out and pay their invoices.....more than their compeditors anyway because they don't bring doughnuts.

Well that is shockingly off topic....now where were we? Oh yes......pics??????

Reminds me of the problem I had with my Friend (not) in the Porsche that I suspect was slightly drunk and nudged the side of my car on a perfectly straight road and then tried to tell me that the damage was already there...Filed a Police report that day and 3 weeks later He calls to Own up to what happened. Its amazing what a Police report can do

Make sure you go see the neighbour who had the letter box ripped out of the ground and keep them informed of who it was etc, that will add another $300 or so to this idiots woes. And make sure you have him charged, don't feel any pity because if you do make an insurance claim he MUST be charged if you want to avoid paying your excess up front. If he is never charged the insurance company cannot recover.

Don't drop the charges, the idiot deserves everything he gets. It'll probably be a slap on the wrist, but hopefully it'll go on his record. That'll make him think twice before he acts tough again.

I got the quote for the repairs - it's going to be $1850 mates rates.

FPV8U - yeah it was in Churchill mate, not Morwell or Trag.

Nah guys my main priority is to have my car repaired and the damamge paid for - i will drop the charges if he does so. I will pass on the kids details to the people whos letterbox he smashed and they can do what they want from there. Apparantly a few people gave this kid a hard time at a recent under-age party - i didn't tell them to but i don't really care either. Can't be bothered with the court crap - my uncles a high-up copper and has assured me he will get a slap on the wrist, and i think paying for the damage, apologizing, and having to deal with a month of hasseling is enough - the threat of violence is generally alot worse than actually having it happen, he did stop going to school for a month?

I've sent flowers to a guys mum who sorted alot of it out for me (in regards to contacting this kids parents and what not). Going to drop off a few bottles of JD's to a few mates that found out alot of info for me through schools (as i said, no one actually saw this kid do it other than his mates), and i'll drop off a 6pk of beer to the certain copper that ran the investigation - even if he was slack, he got it done. $150 is a price i can deal with compared to my $750 minimum insurance excess.

Cheers!
-Matthew

Will be great to see my baby back in good condition again ASAP.

I wonder if he was ****ed off his face or just putting on an act. That was a very calculative thing to do. I would've thought a drunk person wouldn't be that calculative and rather just smash it straight away.

Does he still have to pay you if he is charged? Id do whatever you can do to shame him and legally make him pay for the damages.

If hes a minor and you're going to get the money Or now have the money, It a pointless waste of time and effort taking him to court, The matter is resolved and I bet he thoroughly regrets his actions. For a young fella its a big price to pay, money out of pocket and shame. Going to court and then gettin off with a slap on the wrist is simply bragging rights to his mates. Well done mate.

Glad you got it sorted. You showed maturity beyond your years in how you dealt with this.

Everybody in my book gets the chance to make things right the first time. In a small place like Churchill or wherever he's living, he won't be able to get away with that again. Hopefully he's learnt a valuable lesson!!!
