Well I'm a dissappointing #1117
It would have been much higher if the site hadn't launched while I was on an extended holiday and the bastards had sent me an email telling me where everyone was going. It took me a while to track them down and no I wasnt a mod of any kind at that time. I was there back in the glory days of the US FordForums and before that BON (Blue Oval News), back when those sites had a very active Aussie contingent that including the founding fathers of AFF.

I know ... it helps when you can adjust your figures manually though.
But it's good to know he's up there .... he's run this forum tirelessly and kept it running like a well oiled machine ... along with the help of a number of cluey forum admins and members as well.

Yeh I think russellw being an admin has adjusted his post count.
Mechan1k that is a very healthy post rate! What is this "old forums" that people speak of? |

russellw's post count is correct. If he has adjusted it, it would be down,,,not up! He posts a lot in the Technical Resources section, Gallery and in this part of the forum too.
Good thing russellw is still here and going strong or we all wouldn't be able to have a discussion on the longest registered forum members...

As far as I know it all started here for the Aussies; http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php? Unfortunately Ford choose to take the then forum owner to court over releasing insider information and tried to have the site closed down. Good why to bond with your customer base Ford, not The site has since been sold and isn't even a shadow of it's former self. then came http://www.fordforums.com/forum.php Which was ironically run by a GM enthusiast guy from Texas trying to turn a buck. Note the post count in the still operating Aussie section compared to the rest of the forum, even after all these years of AFF. It's no coincidence that the general area is also known as "the Pub' and there's a BA GT in the header. We eventually turned John (the Texan) on to Ford's after he came to Aussie for his 32nd birthday to go on the 1st Ford Forum Raid (of Ford HQ and all things Ford), no doubt helped by being offered a T3 (from memory) to use from Tickford/FPV while he and his partner/wife were in Australia, along with a signed leather bound '75 yrs of Ford of Australia' from Geoff Polites FoA then (and greatest) CEO. On his return to the US he sold his Impala and bought a Mustang Anyway, things soured and AFF was born and most of the Aussie's jumped ship to be on an AU domain run by aussies for aussies and we've never looked back

Moved form fordforums.com. Many people moved over on 30/12/04, some a day or 2 prior. Our leader russellw for example is listed as joining on 25/12/04. That would probably be the first join date when it started.

Still visit this place semi-regularly, however rarely post. I joined a few days after it started. Before that i was member #46 on Fordforums.com and before that on BON.
I used to have a falcon website in the 90's that had a guestbook that was the precursor to forums: http://replay.waybackmachine.org/199...net.au/~chris/ I also recall using one of the Ford newsgroups. |

User 84, have fond memories of the ford day that was organised by the moderators where we toured the factory, went out to the Geelong museum, had dinner with Geoff Polites in the GSTGate restaurant.
Have owned 10 or so cars since but this place has really driven my love and knowledge of Fords. Also Geoff Polites saying g'day to me in the urinal at the Restaurant is still a highlight of my life to this day.

I have never adjusted my post count upwards - it was corrupted at one point and I took a guess at where it should be (a low guess). The bulk of my post count comes from the gallery (a lot of which has now been migrated to the tech and other areas) where I originally had almost 75,000 before migrating the stuff that used to be in the gallery. Those who used to have access to it will know what I mean. In addition there are currently 6,000+ active posts and 11,800 that have been archived. That doesn't include the ones in the tech portal as they aren't counted although that's only another 900 anyway. Quote:
For those who don't know, the core of AFF was previously involved with a US based forum run by an "interesting" individual who (in the end) prompted the decision to start this one for a number of reasons. As the membership there was largely AU based it made more sense for it to be Australian although if it had not been for the instability of the base there we may not have done so. Cheers Russ
