Didn't know the man personally but feel like I did and know we all have a debt of gratitude to him for where he took Ford Australia

Very sad. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have BA or Territory (or Ford manufacturing in Australia). His legacy will last longer than the cars he helped create. He will be sadly missed by the enthusiasts and his former colleagues, at City Ford, FoA, FoMoCo and JLR.

Rest In Peace mate.

Shocking news, may he Rest In Peace, and heart felt condolances to those that he leaves behind.

I understand that many of the admin team here knew him well, a glowing testament to the gentleman that he was and always spoken of here.

Extremely Sad news to hear of a great leader and true gentleman loose his battle so early in a truly humble and magnificent life.

:( Say it aint so, one of my fond memories of Geoff Polites was him always coming out to Credit to give a talk on the companies performance, the upcoming territory and at the time the BA falcon. I would sit and listen intently at the future of Ford Aus and for hints of the specifics of the BA falcon, then the Ford Credit CEO would stand up and talk about finance and Ford Credits future without fail Geoff would fall asleep as we all wanted too. He was a great leader and is a massive loss for Ford.

I just spotted this thread...and Im just stunned..... :(
Geoff was such a character...I worked with him when he was dealer principal at City Ford and, though I knew he'd been crook for some time now, news of his passing has saddened me a great deal....a great man indeed...
My heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

RIP Uncle Geoff

I still remember him taking off his jacket, shirt and tie in a crowded restaurant so he could put on his 'Uncle Geoff' embroided Ford Forums t-shirt, what a guy, he'll be sadly missed by many.

I remember the first time he posted on BON. We didn't believe it was him so some of us tried to test him.
My heart sank when I read this head line. Too soon, much too soon.
His excellence as a person and as a business man will be sorely missed from this world. As he did for Ford Australia his work with the PAG group will go down in history as a turning point for iconic brands such as Jaguar and Land Rover. Such a tragedy he won’t be there to see the completion of his hard work and sacrifice.
R.I.P Geoff.
Condolence's to his family.

Ian

When any other executive would not make the time Geoff would involve himself in the grass roots of the company and the community because he saw the bigger picture in doing so and I respected him greatly for that.

My deepest sympathy goes out to his family, RIP Geoff.

“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

I will never forget the dinner we had with him a few years ago when we dined with not only Geoff but the Holden guys as well, he sat with the LS1 guys to try to convert them....... Great memories of a great man.

I remember that night well.

He came over to join us and try and convert us (but we nearly had him : )

We had the best conversation's about the early and current day's in the Australian Ford history, including Bathurst :

You could see he was a very passionate Ford man.

He loved his cars, and loved talking and listening to people, I guess thats why he turned Ford OZ around!

We could not beleive the GM of Ford Australia was talking to us "the general public", and listening, and we also made comment that this would not happen with any Holden Managers.

R.I.P Geoff, you were a great Bloke.

Condolences to his family

This is a real shame. Geoff Polites was a tireless worker for not only Ford but the Australian car industry.

His dedication to Ford Australia resulted in the BA Falcon and SY Territory. Both COTY winners, in 2002 & 2004 respectively.

Because of his ability and determination he was rewarded with his posting in Europe and eventually took the reins of Jaguar and Land Rover. He took them to profitability in a short space of time.

All the while he battled cancer. Travelling between Europe and Australia and running both companies whilst undergoing treatment took its toll.

A great story about Geoff Polites was in the 2008 February issue of Wheels.

A sad loss, my condolences to his family and friends.

Ford Members in Victoria should ask their Members of Parliament to ask the Premier to offer the Family a State Funeral for the deceased. He was a "Captain of Industry" and should be afforded a State Funeral.
