I looked at a LX and CL the other week. At this stage I'm not too happy with them, but I think I will have to reserve judgement until at least a Zetec comes out in the local showroom.
I like the overall look, particularly the 3 door, but I'm not happy with the interior finish. Love the design but the choice of materials seem a little cheap at this point. Maybe I'm just a little spoilt with the XR4...

I've seen photos of the trim used in the Zetecs, it does look nice. I like the bigger rear spoiler too. I'm some ways of upgrading anyway, next year at least. Hopefully there will be more news on the XR4 by that point.

I sat in one on the Show Room floor when I bought my car the other day. I think if I was in the market for another small car, then would be high on the list. I really love the layout of the dash. The exterior styling reminds me of the Mazda 2. I do like the look of the car. I hope they do an XR4 version.

The trim in the Zetec is quite nice, all you XR4 owners are right tho, with another 50kw and a 3-3.2:1 final drive it would be the perfect all around car for 2009 in Australia.
However it's so good to drive just as they are now it will be a big seller with or without a more powerful one. We have someone that's being doing laps up and down the street perving on it comming over for a look in a minute so I have to go :p |

Very nice!, don't forgot to go easy on closing the bonnet! I guess bdesigns car was on the same boat, can't be far away now either. Also take a look at how low the spoiler on the front is, there's no room to drive up over gutters untill your front wheel hits on most car so you have to watch that

I've always done the drop method to close bonnets (most car manuals actually suggest it) In terms of spoiler height, our GTI is lower so shouldn't be a problem. Not many came on this shipment (Zetecs). The next shipment isn't until early May. |

The nose scraping relates to the big front overhang. Most new cars have this issue with more cars being designed with pedestrian safety in mind.
Also, when selling Mitsubishis I always recommended dropping the bonnet from about 6 inches, higher with the alloy bonneted cars like the Evo and Pajero.

Also, that is an auto in the background of one of my photos. Was surprised it came with manual mode. Still, 1.4L in an auto. No thanks. |

Lol i'm ok to be the second one..
When I look at the verve concept pictures the auto gear shift seems to have illuminated light etc looks elegant. Just wondering if the real stuff will be the same. My sales consultant did mention it to me but he's not sure. |

Oh I actually test drove an auto CL. The gearshifter is nothing to write home about, but the tiptronic mode surely was a nice icing on top. Interestingly if you kick down the gearbox won't downshift at all, which I like. This is a useful feature when I take a corner I can downshift earlier and it zips out of corners. With the mazda 2 I tested earlier the gearbox downshifts when I accelerate out of a corner, and didn't feel as smooth. Another interesting yet useful fact on the auto box is that it goes P R N D and tiptronic. No 2 or L. It looks modern IMO, resembling an auto box on most upper segment cars.

With a FWD, select the gear you need before you hit the corner (I'm hoping that is what you do)
The auto we drove did kick down in the corner - annoying as hell. |

Candyman2 car looks great and thanks for posting up some pics.
I've just ordered one for the wife. LX 5 speed in Vision. Would have liked the Zetec model but doesn't matter. The dealer said the car should be in at the end of March. WTF! Oh yeah thought I might add the deal said they are bring out a RS version too. When, he didn't know. BB |
