If only Mythbusters could have a go at proving the myth confirmed or busted.
In my opinion it is intirely possible that there are big cats out there and possible Tasmanian Tigers still exist too. Australia has some extremely isolated locations and thick forests, especially in Tassie, and its possible that man will never step foot in some of these places to find them. |

The "yank" myth has roots in every country they've been posted. I know the UK definately has a version of it.

CRUIZIN EB. What you've just said....is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

interesting thread people - did anyone catch the small doco on either abc or sbs a few years ago on this subject? I found it very amusing although some points strangely believable, they even had video footage - which actually looked like a rather large feral cat creeping through the bush. from memory, they also interview a fair few 'witnesses' some plausible others pretty fruity. i must confess that I did record this the second time it was shown for a mate who works for environment a.c.t. to get his scientific views, we pretty much laughed our way through it mostly due to the banana who was collating the info and claimed there was an x-files style government cover up on the subject, I'll have to dig this tape up again for another look - big cats of the grampians was what it was called.

I had the "Pleasure" of coming face to face with a largew feral cat up in the flinders ranges couple of years ago, and it was a good few feet long, and have never been so bloomin scared or terrified. It sat there looking at me and lookin at the bird it had just caught then it sculked off with the bird in its mouth. The thing was HUGE, with BIG Legs, and when it moved I ran....
As far as Puma / Big cat its Feasably possible, but why hasnt some one else shot one. How about the footage from the Grampians wedding on telly the other night mmmmm. |

Anyone see the footage that couple got on camera on the news tonight? It looked like a big cat, and the "kangaroo" it was stalking, looked like a pademelon. By the way, I believe they could be out there. (introduce X Files music, slowly fade out, end of post nnnnow.)

Like everyone else, I have a story about this.
I suggest anyone who's interested gets a copy of Out Of The Shadows by Tony Healy and Paul Cropper, or Savage Shadow by David O'Reilly.

6' long cat??? Holy ****, that's huge! Biggest feral cat i've seen, would have to be about the 3/4 size of our sheepdog only far stockier, and the largest cat i've owned* was around 14-15 inches high when walking.
/start off topic rambling *His name was Muppet, and he was shot in the eye with a "twenny-two" on one of his hunting expeditions (he liked rabbits). He lived for a for a day or two afterwards the poor bugger because we couldn't get to him (hiding in the haystack), but we put him down eventually... I cried :( /end off topic rambling

I realise that it has been some time since this thread has been added to, but last night I was driving back to Sydney from Melbourne up the Hume Highway. I was a couple of kilometres south of Euroa, I cam around a bend in the road and trotting out into the road from my right was this enormous tawney animal. As it got caught in the high beam it turned an slunk back into the bushes.
If it was a feral cat it was the biggest bloody one I have ever seen. The whole thing was over in a matter of a few seconds, but I did notice the following:- |

Circus folk must be hopeless at holding on to stock, and replenishing must be no sweat at all.
Pumas average life span is around 8-12 years in the wild, 21 in captivity. And Panthers come in a few varieties, but average no more than 20 yrs. Just how many circus' have lost their kitty cats you reckon? Or do you think a few males and females have escaped and they have a dating service. |
