My step aunty texted some family up on the North Island last night and they're OK. So that's a relief.

I was stunned to see this yesterday. I was there last march. It's such a beautiful city. My thoughts go to those families who have lost loved ones.

My thoughts are with the Kiwi brothers...
My company has a branch in CHCH, totally destroyed this time.
All staff escaped unhurt, fortunately.

Terrible seeing whats going on. The death toll is up to 75 now. Hope there isn't any more.

Mind you this won't stop me going to NZ this year. Love that place.

The grand chancellor hotel looks like a write off. The entire building is leaning and they expect it to fall. Just heard an announcement of not to use the toilets any where in christchurch due to a break in sewer lines. Sight seeing people need to stay out of the cbd so they don't interfere with emergencycrews.

Why couldn't the quake deal to the scumbags who do this sort of thing?

I hear they are NOT asking people for I.D.. It's just too tragic looking at the human damage ...
They are using DNA etc...
Issues with I.D with visitors overseas...
Asking for dental records etc...After seeing the damage done to cars etc I can't imagine what a human body would look like...
The season there's been slow release of numbers dead...
They have to I.D them first...

Agreed though sadly it wont happen, what is good to see is that the ****** after being arrested are being remanded in custody,no bail just straight to jail where they face a month at least before there court day.

To the looters and anyone else seeking to make a profit out of this I really hope KARMA comes and drops a big brick on your head.. A big kudos to all the international people sticking there hand up and without hesitation jumping on a plane or sending supplies.

wow, looks like we are getting *a bit* tougher on societys pieces of ***.

My mothers partner has a few houses in Lyttleton, one had been 'sold', settlement date was suppose to be middle of next month, no one is too sure what is going to happen now as the buyers finance etc will most likely fall thru, I'd imagine hundreds of people are in this situation, I'd hate to be a property owner down there atm.

That fuel tanker that magpie posted above, the driver went to it yesterday, keys, fire extinguishers and fuel card had all been stolen.

Heard a bloke had to have his legs amputated to get him out of the rubble. Poor fella. The rescuers didn't have any surgical utensils other than a Stanley knife and a hack saw. Gruesome but true.

Swiss Army Knife & Hacksaw. The Aussie urologist who started the op couldn't cope (understandable) and a Police Officer had to do it

He is alive though.
