it's a shame, i still have a soft spot for EA S-packs..

So it was more than likely a fuel fire from your description, can't say how but likely that unburnt fuel was being poured into the exhaust, thus the black smoke, lack of power, then warm fuzzy stuff..

(it might buff out)

I went out a few year back in my EA one night.
Got home and was watching TV when my house mate asked if I had neons under the front of my car. I said NO why and he said it was glowing under there.
Went out to investigate and the engine bay was on fire. It was started by the voltage regulator developing a short and burning which set the power steering lines on fire.
Wasnt as bad as yours but still sucked.

unlucky mate.
took my car to the mechanic, and he had to cut the wire from the amp to tha battery, cos the guys i bought the car off had the wire touching the steering column and it was burning through it. was actual marks on the column, so lucky

owner said the head gasket has been replaced not so long ago, can not see any signs of coolant or other leaks around the block, so i doubt it would be that, not saying it isn't

The S-Packs were all 3.9s, the majority of which were MPI.

As for your 3.2, it didn't make it to EAII - it was dropped before the 30th Anniversary (and 4 Speed Auto).

I'd say that the burnt wiring has just caused a few things not to work...

I'd simply suggest to get another engine bay loom from an EA2-EB1 (CFI and MPFI are apparently still the same), intake loom from an EA2-EB1 (I think even EB2-ED are the same) and just install them.... It should start, and run fine after that....

if you think the car is worth it i would get a good sparky on the electricals , you may be surprised how quickly your baby could be up and running again, i had a fire in my truck years ago, i was thinking it was a disaster, only one day it was a goer again.

I may have missed something, but I think he's saying he's bought another car and that it's slow.

Sorry for ur losses guys, same thing happend to me the other day in the other halfs ecape, had filled it fuel, checked tyre pressures, fluids etc, and vaccumed it. Went through car wash at BP in Fremantle. Noticed steam coming from under bonnet as i drove out, nothing unsual. Then alot of smoke, popped bonnet saw flames, got the hell out of servo. It shut down at the back of Harbour Motors in Freo, the guys there came running out with a hose etc, before I had even got out of the car
(just popped the hood) Anyway long story short $7500 later, RAC unsure if it will be fixed by christmas cause of parts delays. They think it was a fuel line split? Car only on 65000kms and always well looked after. Im just glad I was drving it and not the mrs

me and dad played with it last night and adjusted the timing, neither of us can understand how the engine even ran with how far advanced it was...

made it heaps better, but it's still gutless as all ****, swapped the air cleaner and fuel filter was those of the burnt EA (10,000km old...) made little to no difference.

they said they'd come and take it back and refund me, so they can have it. i just don't have the time to fix it

so you'd rather rebuild a burnt EA than fix what was probably minor issues on the one you just returned, while also buying a Pintara? Well whatever keeps you entertained.

Ok cool, how do u manage to find the spacks, so you are fixing the wiring problem and any other issues with the car.But why did u buy the hatch.

didn't have the time to muck around with the other falcon, i should have been at work today, the only reason i had today off was to transfer the rego and get some third party property for the hatch, i need a car asap, i travel and hour each way to work and no chance of car pooling or public transport...

i found the first spack on ebay, simple search

the $100 one, well dad spoke to some guys at work, and luck has it that they knew about this piece of crap... and now it's in my back yard. perfect

also, half the reason i bought the hatch was, A: i need a car asap. and B: my sister will get her L's in about 9-10 months so she can drive it then and learn how to drive a manual then it's hers when she passes her P's test.

nah my point was you probably could have just kept working on the EA you bought and returned instead of buying another one which will most likely end up being more work, while still driving the Pintara.

But as i said, whatever keeps you happy
