Reminds me of the Petrol wars of the early 60's and/or late 50's where they handed out bags of lollies and novelties (tiger tails etc) to all the children in the car when you rolled up to a servo. One of my much older cousins used to full his station wagon with the neighbours kids before going to get a few shillings of petrol each day. I remember even today the purple coloured mouse shaped lollypops that seemed to taste like petrol or fly spray.

which it says suits first car buyers, blending affordability with the latest in connectivity technology, a high level of safety, fuel efficient engines and the ability for owners to personalise it with different coloured body parts.

The forerunner of ESSO...
ESSO is a phonetic version of the initials of Standard Oil (ESSO - SO). I think the EK (or FB) in the ad was from the same era as the tiger tails? (The chrome strip on the rear quarter panel—from the C-pillar back—were identical on both models.)

Who'd have thunk it !!!!!!......Sarcastic as I am , How sad is it that price seems now to be all that matters...You go and buy a cheap overseas built hunk of metal built in some cased by poor souls paid much lower wages in deference to a pretty decent package maybe 15-20% more here..There were the tariffs , remember the big sales tax on imported cars that disappeared and protected our maufacturers in those days. Our industry comprising Ford , GMH , Chrysler (Mitsubishi later on) , Nissan/Datsun , Toyota etc etc...and Ford part owned Mazda ...there were others too had local local content requirements as well. Will soon be ALL GONE... The poxy Button Car Plan by typically bean counter orientated politicians intent on Free Trade with Korea , China ,Japan especially has the blood of the Australian car industry on it's hands..By the way I picked up my FG XR6 yesterday Wanted one for ever...Love it.. The overseas cars go and get stuffed and i'll stick to this and my dear old AU Futura for as long as I can...Cheers Rod |

G'day .. Maybe Holden could name their last Commodore next year , The Icecream or the Vanilla...Every time they come up against a good XR6 Turbo or an XR8 they usually get 'licked' just like an icecream..Cheers Rod

I got somewhat excited to read on the AFF home page 'Holden to offer free ice...", only to find out when I clicked on the link that it was the creamy variety...
