:1syellow1 Hey guys just came across your forum by accident and noticed that you guys are pretty much in the same predicament as us guys in the U.K, things for the cougar are virtually non existent over here although we have a good following check out our forum when you have spare time, friendly bunch of guys www.cougarforum.co.uk

Hello to everybody on this board I am a brand new member and proud owner for the last 3 months of a 2001 Cougar Eibach. I must say it is the best looking car I have ever owned (and there have been a few). I bought this vehicle from a dealer for A$22750 and it had only done 55000K. Compared to a lot of other cars around I reckon it was a real bargain.
The best thing about it is every time I get in it I feel like a "ROCK STAR". :1syellow1 People now stop me in the street and want to talk to me about my car I just hope some bastard doesn't knock it off. If the weather is good in Sydney over the weekend I will post a pic. :voldar02: |

Rear mudflaps? I'm not sure if you can get anything specially for the Cougar in Oz, but I'm pretty sure in the States they were available. Not very popular though. If I can find out anymore info I will let you know.

Daniel I thought we should continue our discussion on the front page so that anyone who visits the board will see that there is some activity.
I haven't been able to take pics my cat yet as last Sunday the kids informed me that none of our digi cams would work because we didn't have any batteries !!!!!! It looked great after I got all the bird of it as well. Mine is an Eibach auto 2000 model in gun metal grey colour. My fuel econonmy has dropped this week to between 12-13/100k but I am not sure if it is the fuel or just that I am getting closer to the 60kk service. Is yours an Eibach? My insurance was $1600 so you have done well I will certainly review it when I get my renewal.Like you, at the time, I checked a couple of companies NRMA & AAMI and they were both hideously expensive so now I am with Allianz. Last week end my stereo got accidentally knocked by someones knee and now it is asking me for an access code so I will have to go to a dealer to find this out. I am in two minds regarding servicing as I already have an excellent mobile mechanic who does a great job.In fact you have to book him six weeks in advance, thats how good he is and I know he will look after the car. On the other hand. When it comes to resale value people like to see that any car has been serviced by a dealer. I will think about this issue further. CYA !!!!!! |

considering there's only about four active Cougar members on this forum (in Australia), I think this section is getting as much of a workout it could possibly be getting for the moment. Still eager to see some photos, but all in good time I'm not sure what is optimum fuel for our cars, but you're travelling about the same as me! Mine's not an Eibach edition. They only came out in the pre-facelift models. Mine's a 2001, so it has the updated front bumper and headlights as well as the different interior finishes and seats. With your radio, didn't you get the card with the keycode on it? Your servicing decision would also depend on how long you intend to keep your car. From my point of view, so long as the car has been regularly serviced (not necessarily by a Ford dealer in our case) then it is reasonable to assume the car's been looked after. So your mobile mechanic friend could still be a viable option - so long as you don't have any problems with the car which would require specific knowledge relating to it. eg, I had a noise coming from behind the dash which even had Ford stumped for a few days... I know this is refering back to something mentioned in this thread earlier, but Cougars are always welcome at our www.eurofordclub.com club runs. We're an assorted bunch at the best of times (Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Escort, Cougars etc), so you're always welcome.

My poor CAT suffered the indignity of being bashed into by a heap of ty Korean Hyundia yesterday and is now at the panel beaters with over A$7000 worth of damage. :jab: I am as mad as hell. :jab:
The ******** who went through a GIVE WAY sign could only say "SORRY". I must say though that without ABS it would have been much more serious. I saw him coming hit the brakes and swerved to avoid him but just clipped him with my front left fender. I then ended up on the opposite side of the road on the nature strip but was able to steer my way past a metal pole and a tree without hitting either of them. THANK GOODNESS FOR ABS. |

Damn man that's never good to hear. Hopefully insurance is fixing everything up and you're cat will be good as new soon? Though $7K sounds like a lot, how does the car look? Was it just an exterior panel or was there a lot of damage underneath the car?

The front left hand fender & lights and the spoiler were extensively damaged and will have to be replaced. The panel beater advised that a lot of the cost is tied up in parts.
So that you know Daniel a new headlight assembly is A$1200.00. : But thats the way it goes. I won't be back on the road for at least another week and in the meantime I am driving my wife's freelander (bit of a difference). Anyhow thank goodness for ABS & comprehensive insurance. |

Any updates Dave?
I'm guessing that they will be replacing a lot of parts then as opposed to repairing things like your fender and spoiler. How did the Hyundai fare in the incident? Wouldn't be so bad if it came away worse - but - $7K would probably by their car! Dan |

Daniel, I got my CAT back on Friday night and she is better than ever. The repairer did a great job and it looks great. :1syellow1
The good thing out of all this I got a new spoiler as the old one was cracked and had paint chips all over it and now it looks like new. :1syellow1 They did have trouble getting all the parts together and had particular trouble with the front fender and a replacement mag wheel but it all came together and it looks great. Also the front was quite loose as the spoiler had taken a few knocks but now it is nice and tight. Anyhow - ON THE ROAD AGAIN. As regards the heap of Hyundai I hit I never even bothered to look at his car because the guy driving it was a DICK HEAD !!!!! |

Hello Guys and Girls, New member just sending out a greeting. Bought my Cougar about 4 months ago and I am loving it. I know what you mean, THEARROW. While my cars have been steadily improving in condition and quality, this is the first one that really steps away from the mainstream and it is really fun checking out people checking it out. I work in a mechanic workshop with a lot of car guys and they were really impressed with. So far it's still stock standard which is kinda outstanding by itself, really looking forward to doing some brain storming to see what sort of tweaks can be made to enhance performance.
As to a couple of comments mentioned early, I too live in western Sydney and if someone wants to put together a bit of a mini Cougarfest (to borrow a term from America), I would be definitely interested in it. Welcome aboard mate, as you've said you'll still get a lot of glares and questions about the Cougar. I still today and keep getting asked what it is and if you can buy one new, I still love my Cougar.

Welcome aboard majapi69! You should have come to the All Ford Day the other weekend. We had two Cougar's on display with the EuroFordClub, another on display in adifferent area, and The Arrow came down for a visit and introduced himself.
What model did you get? ...and colour? I see a few dark green ones around my area (Blacktown/Penrith). Would love to meet up for a mini Cougarfest, whereabouts in Western Sydney are you? Slowly but surely we're getting more Cougar members on here. Post up some pics if you got them too Abraxas Note: I think we might almost have enough members to get our own NECO chapter? |

From what I've seen, as little as $14000ish for a 1999 model, up to about low 20k for an 01, or 25000 for an Eibach.

hey dan, hows it going, u decided on new rims yet, id love to see sum pics of ppls cougars on here, would liven things up a bit. btw i just found out from dan the man that the cougars are front wheel drive, hmmm very interesting, never would of guessed, i always though long cars like the cougar where rear wheel drive.

I live in the Seven Hills/ Toongabbie/Pendle Hill area. Abraxas, think I've seen some of the same ones around. Mine is silver in colour, think they called it "silver frost". Pics coming soon I hope, getting a digital camera soon, then won't be a problem. Would have loved to have gone to the All Ford day, but didn't know about it then. G'day guys - just thought I'd drop a line to say hi I've got a 94 Probe, have had it now for a couple of years & still love it. Can't believe how great it looks compared to many same vintage cars that now look dated. Hey I saw (& filled in) a couple of weeks back a survey that was like a pertition to bring back the Probe!! Wouldn't that be great. For sure it was U.S. based but like you've all said earlier the following is much larger there. We're the lucky & knowledgeable ones from down under I haven't really made (other the aesthetic) changes to my Probe. I tried a front strut but the fitting wasn't right & it rubbed on the top of the engine; which in turn didn't allow the engine to move freely & blah blah - anyway I took the thing off.
I love everything about the car except 2 things 1) the handling - think it understeers way too easily and 2) the power - would love it to be a bit more push you into the back of your seat. What do you guys think? V8 conversion would be great as I've read the engine doesn't like turbos fitted at all. Anyway all too much money for me anyone. I'm quite content & love it just as is I'm in Melb. |

welcome.....i have to agree with you there the Probe is a wonerfull car to have and drive....very easy to modify the exterior but the engine is a *****....got any piccies.

Hey there GotheProbe. I love those cars, almost as much as I love the Cougar haha! The style of them is great and really sporty - I never sat in one tho or been for a drive but they look hot as all hell!
Definitely pursue your interests of mods, I would think though if you want a V8 conversion you'd also want to change where the drive goes (FWD V8 I don't think would work too well!) Would love to see some photos if you got any. Abraxas |

Welcome aboard! There's small but loyal Probing community in Melbourne & Oz as a whole. Did a bulk buy on larger rear sway bars a few years ago, that can help with the understeer.
