I would take the FORD in a heart beat, but then again I am bias.

Or for something a little more australian, big and ugly, do a search for Leyland P76 :hihi:

I know not everyone will agree with me on this one, but I think the Ford looks classier then the Holden in that pic in the first post.

Same here.

The AU LWB does look better though than the basic GM LWB.
Put a Grange into the equation though and I'm back in the Generals army

If I lost the XR6 id have to say an LS1 WH Statesman International in black would be very tempting. An AU Fairlane wouldnt even come on the radar (maybe a TL50 if it was a bargain) its design is embarrasing. Round in the middle, squared off on the front and back, horrible over chromed grill, under tyred, wheezy V8. I cant complain about the interior except for the seats.

Although im sure I could live with an AU 'lane if it had 500rwhp turbo 6, make an awesome sleeper.

Love the Grange. One pulled up at the local shops the other day. A brand spanking new one at that. They are so nice.

Looks, power, mod-ability, everything else bar build quality the statesman is HEAD and shoulders above the AU Fairlane. That said, both are very desiarable vehicles when your in a bus like mine.

AU fairlanes are one of my fav ford LWB's. The NF/NL looks like a gli, the ba looks like an XT, the NA-NC was heap boxy.. the AU was a much classier alternative to the fairmont ghia i think.

I remember my initial impressions of a WH Statesman - father came so close to buying one when they came out, we did all the test drives etc and I remember that driving it, it didnt feel all that inspiring (for want of a non car brochure word).

The Fairlane on the other hand felt good to drive and had everything we asked for. Power may not have been all that exciting but I dare say that the vast majority of LWB buyers (and the target market) are not after power but rather luxury. Have a look at how many Grange models HSV sell each year and you'll see this.

In the end we went with an AUII Fairmont sedan for the savings, and also because bar the chrome and the leather, the interior is practically the same as the Fairlane anyway.

Sorry, but.. sound is a matter of taste.. and there's only one V8 engine on Earth with more aftermarket then the Windsor V8 and that's the Gen1 Small-Block Chev.

And I love the Fairlane AU's... they look great. Have more of a presteige look to them then the WH Statesman had.. those just looked like longer VX Commo's.

Dauphin your car's ride height definitely shows. If it was stock height, yours would be towering over the Stato's roofline.

I won't go into a Fairlane v Stato war here, I'm not too sure how that all started, both are nice cars, I know which I would pick and I'll keep that pick to myself.

Sounds better? You've gotta be joking. You need 4000rpm to even know its a V8. After that its nowhere near 304 or 302. Still doesn't sound as good thru aftermarket imo too.

As for the looks, I prefer the Fairlane, because it is uglier. Not a fan of the VT roundness, like a lot of cars outa the '90s.
I would rather an 'ugly' design than a boring one - AU Falcon v Camry/Avalon.

VT/X s all over the AU when it come to the interior tho.

The reason l love and chose to own an au fairlane is because more people hate them and you dont see them on every corner and up every drive you go. For an ugly and uninspiring car like my fairlane l sure as hell have a great hoot of a time driving it everyday!!!!! So to you knockers out there l salute you :thebirds:

Ummmm no i really don't think so. Windsor kicks GEN3 *** any day you smartass!! It's a proven fact as a mates got a HSV Grange (5.7 250kw 350ci V8) while i own a TICKFORD TL50 (5.0 200kw 302ci V8) both 99 model. Both of our cars are stock so we wanted to see what has luxury power on the Quarter mile strip. The result was the TL50 won by 0.8 second more than the Grange. And we even tried swapping drivers but no different at all.

So tell me that the GEN3 sucks cause it does. And you know that every third Holden and HSV GEN3 engine get sold in one of there cars always have some major problem with it and thay still do today. That poor workmanship.

a 250kw Gen3 would kill a 200kw windsor.
i don't know whats wrong there, but 0.8 seconds is just a stupid amount.
something smells.

what *actual* times did the 2 cars get?

You are so not true. Welcome to the 21st century. GEN3 was a disgrace for Holden. The old Holden 5.0 were so much better as they never had problems compare to the GEN3. :

Holden stands for
Holes
Oil
Leaks
Dents
Engine
Noise

Fact is the GEN3 showed up the windsor to the extent that to save face Ford Aus had to spend bulk cash and get the baby v8 stroked out to 340odd cubes to make any impression against the yankie GM import. The Gen3 completly shadowed the 5.0 in EVERY performance area.

Wrong. The 2 real reason why Tickford not Ford stroke the 5.O windsor is
1.They wanted to celebrate a very long journey of a decade of what was a fantastic engine on the Ford company line. So Tickford wanted to make it mark before the new partnership with Prodrive (FPV) take over. And that point is when Prodrive will be producing Australia built engine. The Barra or Boss.
2. The T series 3 was originally plan to be the next GT so to go with that stunning bodykit that has to make the engine something special.

And that the FACT.

Statesman is a stretch out commodore which is ugly which Holden couldn't come up with some fresh styling and same goes for it's Monaroso it always A very wheezy V8 with to many problems with them lack of styling and poor workmanship while the AU Fairlane has a completely different styling compare to its falcon which the the Fairlane has so much class it's already a modern day luxury classic.
