XA Coupe ..thanks man. Truth is I have come to the conclusion that despite the most fearsome typhoon or ts50 or xr8 that they have limited capabilities of reliability because they are putting out more power and therefore cannot last. The other limitation is that they are not necessarily engineered to last in the hands of a performance fanatic like myself. We are seeing guys haivng to install better valve springs, stronger rods and the likes to withstand punishment. If these are fords flagship then why dont they come with the best parts in the first place? So the best option for a guy like me is to get a hobby car.

XR6 Turbo Ute...
Cheaper than the sedan and not any slower... Under $40k with a bit of dealing and you have a new 245kw 2 door sports car. Now thats a bargin in performance terms. What is there that comes close to the price and performance. And that price is even cheaper for an 06 plate..

So what you are saying is that the typhoon is the floggable car?

any car is a floggable car Stav.
but these cars are designed as daily's. if you want pure outright performance, you'd be better off looking in euro territory... and thus a hefty price over what you'd pay for a 'phoon. if you want a car that you can thrash the absolute crap out of, then you might as well buy a 'phoon and then spend some cash on the driveline. make it bulletproof. and it would still work out cheaper than spending your dosh on a fazza or whatever.

Typhoon IMO. I'm a V8 nut and will buy nothing but, but, the Typhoon with 2/3 grand will get you into the 12's "possibly" 11's (so I've been told on this forum). That is great bang for your buck. If you have some cash I'd grab a ZF or 6-Speed manual and dump a supercharger on that bad boy. Fast, bulge & V8 rumbles 24/7/365!!!
But the T3 is still the best. :

Another vote for the Typhoon. Having owned a BA MK1 GTP, and now driving a BF MK1 Typhoon, I believe the Typhoon wins hands down. Gets off the line quicker, more torque, smoother power and much lighter steering.
I do miss that V8 note though out: BBB

On a BFYB the XR6 Turbo Ute puts up a good case as for being the best performance modern Ford well no I would vote for the Typhoon. But if it were my money I would buy a Force 6. One of these might just replace the Territory Ghia in the future.

Some other options you might want to consider XR5. But apart from that the F6 is a good package as is IMO the XR6, XR8 and GT range. It depends on what you want. In regards to the T3 thats a good package too, however given that you sound like you want to flog it a bit, you would need to check service history very carefully and ensure the car has been looked after. More miles/thrashing = more wear/tear - with a newer car there is less risk (plus warranty) Granted some guys and girls really look after there car but its a lottery, you wont really know until you buy

Unbiased (of course lol) F6 Typhoon !
Your worried about things breaking, but way I see it is, these are made as daily drivers; many are getting thrashed around, not many horror stories, they feel like they can handle a good thrashing and will be happy playing around all day (4-8hrs) unlike some cars which may wish to 'recover' so to speak lol! That being said, keep her stock and you will have a full sized rocket which should be an illegal pleasue to enjoy AND if something does happen to go wrong; you... have... warranty! nuff said. |

This is my findings on the main contenders in this thread. Its an old post from the 26.6.05 about the then new F6..But I think it is applicable to this thread, without starting a bungfight. Make your own jugment..
Ok had a thrash in the F6, this is how I found it... Steering: Direct although a little heavy.. Suspention:Good ride, points better, not as front heavy or understeery as GT. Tyres: Dont know why FPV put such crappy tyres on a car like these... Brakes : FPV standard brake package, Fine but I would go for Brembo's 6 Speed:Well spaced ratios, good stick feel, although a little high geared. Engine: smooth turbine like, very nice, had the "shusssh shusssh" happerning. Power: ""OK here we go!!"" REMEMBER! this is my opinion only, so DONT get on here flaming me!! I found it to be smooth & gentle under 3000rpm, from 3200 it the wind starts to blow & doesn't let up untill the bells start ringing. "We'll put the Gtech on tomorrow".. Again this is my opinion! The bum.o.meter..says... A sub 14 sec car? very unlikley, mabe on a good day. A low 14 sec car? yes. A GT beater? no. A GT alternitive? yes. A Typhoon? no, more a strong southerly wind. Was I impressed? no. Was I unimpressed? no. Overall a very nice car, it does everything well. I dont know were this car fits though???. Its about as fast as a GT, but doesn't have that GT instant torque or sound. It handles a little sharper but still let down by the tyres, as is the GT. Looks the same as a GT apart from the wheels & lump in the bonnet.. Great interier, smart seats, looks clean & sporty & feels very nice.. Poor steering wheel, "Id go for the FPV one" Which one would I have right now? The T3 is safe. 2nd...GT 3rd...F6 So there ya go, that my impression of the F6 so far. Now remember this was in 2005, but I think it still stands. Although I would shuffle the pack a bit....

Have you driven a BF 6 spd auto F6 or come up against one, quite a few have run 12's stock now down the 1/4. I'd have to imagine that from a roll it'd still have to be extreamly quick, i couldn't honestly see a stock T3 (or a Boss) keeping up even from a roll. As for the track what brake's do you have, std or brembo's. Did the xr's and F6's have the brembo's. I'm not having a crack here but brake and rubber choice will have a big impact on lap time's, i would have to think there'd be over a sec difference between dunlop's vs 1o4's alone. Is your T3 stock, what sort of power and tqe is it putting out. |
