If I'm going to die in a car it may aswell be gruesome and in something that looks cool.
If anything it'll make things worse. Me and I'm sure many others will still be driving our older cars, just unlicensed and without insurance.

it's way too obvious, but a simple data mining of the crash stats should highlight if any crashes are even in these older cars. I bet very few are.

Since the worst offenders are 1998-2002 cars, and as many agree it’s more a driver issue than the cars fault, we should look at who drives these cars.
A small percentage would be car enthusiasts (the crazy few who love the VT and AU) and likely these people are not to blame since they are enthusiasts.
Then we have P Platers - certainly would add to the crash statistics.
Lastly, you won’t drive through Mt Druitt or any other houso dense area without seeing a healthy dose of run down Falcadores and the like around 20 years old. Again, adding to crash statistics.

Banning these cars won’t stop the accidents as these same inexperienced drivers and housos will still want cars. They will just be playing street demolition derby in slightly newer 2003 model cars.

Dont be silly, you need to ban ALL those dangerous cars, just ask the anti gun crowd how this works......

So do we then ban all B Series Falcons & VZ Commodores this time in two years? Forgetting crumple zones, the newer a car, the less steel & more plastic. Whoever has come up with this has also failed to factor in that A: We don't or can't all afford new cars which ties in directly with my next point, B: We don't all trade our cars in once they're more than 5 years old.

I am moving to a much less populated place, buying a loud 70's american Ford, keeping my AU Falcon and waiting out my time. Iv'e paid taxes and worked too bloody hard for too long to listen to some tool tell me what I can and cannot drive. I am sure there will be plenty who agree.

There are ways for governments to implement this without issuing a Ban.

Other countries increase registration cost with age of vehicle, they also have it tied in with compulsory insurance, and annual vehicle checks.

So the cost of owning an older car, is what gets them off the roads

However doing this, will make our cars depreciate even faster, and make car ownership very difficult for those on low incomes.

Don't stress Bud it may never happen. I don't think its politically wise for any Government to issues such a Ban. theres enough backlash of cigarettes in public places

If the **** lickers in Canberra can swing it so they get more tax in the form of higher rego for older cars they'll do it. Heck, they dared tax Australians for drinking beer and we all rolled over and just took it. I wonder often what will be the tipping point for Australians apathy towards their freedoms. Rules, rules, rules, and more rules...

It all started when they took guns off people so old cars will be a walk in the park for them just brainwash all the left tards and watch it happen. My advice is buy up every old Junker you can find then sell them at an inflated compensation price just like the gun buy back.

As of next year the Sprint can go onto historic club plates. I've been a reasonably good steward and she's made it in one piece. Original condition, too.
It's like Valhalla for road cars.

A Statistical trend does not mean a Causal relationship

It could easily be another factor other than the age of the cars that causes the statistic. Older cars are usually cheaper, and appeal to a different demographic - perhaps that demographic is more prone to higher injury rates.

Demographics that may also be more prone to driving whilst affected by alcohol or drugs too? Greatly increasing the risk of accident/injury.

You only have to look at the carpark left behind at the local RBT sites to see 15-20 year old vehicles, and lots of tradie utes.

A smarter approach would be to make compulsory annual checks on vehicles built pre 2002 and ban L and P plate drivers from driving them.

That leaves them available to genuine enthusiasts and those who cant afford a newer car, for a reasonable annual fee + necessary repairs which is fair for all concerned to keep them roadworthy, whilst keeping inexperienced drivers in safer cars.

Not now, i did in the 90's but thats irrelevant because the article was in a WA paper and from what i can gather is a Nation wide push.
Therefore, NSW's current testing requirements would already have this covered, they would simply need to black list pre 2002 cars for L and P plate drivers as they have with Turbo and V8's.

Where it would have the greatest impact is here in SA where we have zero testing and have been a dumping ground for easern seaboard ****boxes for as long as i can remember.

Its the perfect medium because those who cant afford or cant obtain finance for a new car can maintain their pre 2002 car with regular repairs and the accompanying certificate of fitness to keep them honest, whilst removing them from the hands of inexperienced drivers.
It also leaves them free for enthusiasts who are more likely to maintain them.

Same in WA as we have zero annual inspections but thankfully we are too far away to inherit to many eastern ****boxes and besides we have enough of our own already

What do you mean by 'same in WA', you clearly go on to say you dont inherit the eastern seaboards ****boxes so its not the 'same', that must have been a typo...it would be best described as 'similar'...
