A number of people I know are doing the opposite and are hopping into 4x4s.

For the first time in 35 years my Father no longer owns a V8 after having a plethora of V8 Falcons and lastly his Cobra he recently sold.

A mate of mine just sold his VE SS to finance a brand new Wildtrak.
And a few other guys also bought new Rangers - offloading their V8 utes.

I am still driving my BF XR8 and I don't have any plans to change that any time soon.

I've had NA 4s, an NA I6, turbo 4s, turbo 5, turbo I6, never a V8. It wasn't worth $10k to jump up from an F6 to a GT, but I reckon I'd have paid an extra $5k for the throttle response of the V8. Power and speed is great, the F6 has that in bulk, but a dull throttle kills the buzz.

My garage currently has a turbo 4, turbo 6 and an NA 4, and the latter is by far the more engaging drive simply because the engine responds immediately. I'd love that response with 400bhp+!

I've gotta get a V8 of some sort before we're all driving electric cars. I think it's gonna be a Mustang but it's not gonna be any time soon.

A few of my friends have parted ways with V8's, stroked ones, one blown etc. and as above now own 4 x 4's or real utes (not the Holden and Ford toys). They all have a mix of land cruisers and hiluxes and one Colorado. Those of us that are into performance these days are clearly out numbered.

Nothing the matter with 6, but its hard to beat the V8 burble, it doesn't have to fast or new to sound good and put a smile on your face..

This year was the first time in 27 years I haven't had a V8 as a daily-driver; I "inherited" my wifes FG XR6 ute when she moved onto a Triton and I sold my old '03 SV8.

The 4.0L is fine for all normal driving, but I miss the V8. Even the old stock LS-series still had a noise and a push-in-the-back to it. I don't think the XR6 will last as long as the others ... I think a modern V8 will be back on the table soon.

In the meantime I'll console myself with my two AMC Javelins. They aren't fast but they make the right noises and have the right look

Holden had a good thing going with straight-sixes, all the way up till the Skyline powered VL. Every 6 cylinder since VN has been garbage.

Never left owning a V8, bough my first at 17 back in the 80's and never not had one.

Currently have five V8 powered cars, both modern and old, small block and big block, carby and injected. In saying that only two are currently running and driving, the third is nearly ready just missing a few finishing touches.

Then will be starting on the 4th, the 5th one is for sale and will be moved on in a year or two.

I am not really looking for any more at the moment, but might consider a EB GT manual in a few years time, or an EL GT manual, or an ESP 351 manual, if the right car comes up and I have the $$ spare.

Had it for a couple of years. My Girlfriend purchased to fix up, but she said she was over it so she said I can have it to fix up. Bonnet stuck at the moment as cable broke. Last time I seen in the engine bay was when we jumped started it, to get it home.

V8 all the way. Especially if you've already got the i6T. Best of both worlds.

XR8 would be a great V8 to own, especially if you're into modifying.

I bought another one this year after almost ten years of sixes and fours, my fifth V8 - two Chevs, one Holden and my second Ford.

I needed a cheap, reliable, comfortable and safe long distance driver I could sleep in, load up and tow with occasionally.

I must say the old EF Fairmont wagon does the job admirably well. It had 192K on it when I bought it, was a well looked after two owner car and after having put another 10K on it in less than six months it has cost me bugger all apart from fuel which, compared to the old carby V8s I have owned, it uses surprisingly little of.

What I like about them is the effortless, low range torque.

There used to be a saying that people talk 8's but buy 6's.
That was the genius of the XR6 when it first came out.

As for the thread question, depends, if there is a clash of where people need to be at a particular time and two cars are needed, then yes, it's time to get back in a V8. Or if I feel like it.

I've just gone from a V8 5.4L to a 6turbo and I just love it. Sure I miss the V8 rumble but I adore the turbo rush more

I didn't win that Mad Max Monaro, so that's probably ruling me out of ever having an 8.

As much as i'd love a Mustang when they come out, i'd probably go the 4. I feel that if I ever get an 8, it'd be a second car, not something I drive every day. And quite honestly, if I was doing that i'd probably be getting a 4x4.

Yep, getting into a VF SS around September when LS3 arrives. Been told there will be heavy discounts on 6.0L when they arrive.

Circumstances does not allow for a new XR8, otherwise I'd been in one of them.

If ss gets the LS3 does clubbie get the supercharged 6.2 LSA?

That could be the car that dethrones the xr8 or fg Miami GT as best bang for buck

If clubbie goes supercharged for $75k that could be the keeper

Apparently yes, the Clubby is to get a detuned version of the LSA.

Looking at current V8 offerings, I'd say it's a great time to buy a V8. I have the GT and SSV, enjoy driving both. I used to be a massive 6 turbo man, still love them but in the back of my mind, I was always envious of the V8 owners.

All his threads are passive aggressive in nature.

Most people who have a passion for V8's will continue to buy V8's if they are available.

Bit like a boxing match between Mundine and Hasbeen, when the heats on one starts throwing haymakers when they aren't winning and with the tuffute the cornerman the result usually ends up a TKO as in thread closed . Lol
