Do lighter wheels make much of a difference over heavier wheels?

yea...nooooo Wouldn't be changing my wheels for anything- couldn't have picked a better wheel I reckon- I love 'em. Suits it so well- ONFIRE, you've got a lot of choices here!! lol Just going to come down to the look you want for your car- I've had a set or borrowed ROH Fury's on mine for a month before- on anything else they would have lloked fine- but on my car they made the car look like it had been dressed up, the enkei's give the car a purposeful, racey look which is exactly what I wanted- do you want a dress-up set of 20" chromies or a light, simple style in a more practical, subtle size?

It's quite surprising- that's why I went lightweight wheels- 18" x 9.5" @ 9.5kg compared to the 18" x 8" Azzuros at 12.8kg each- big difference over four wheels

ahh mine are more than 12.8kg, when getting a puncture repaired the guy pulled my rim off and grunted when lifting it onto the bench lol thats not a good sign, so I went and picked it up and I was shocked..
would be cool if you can dig that up, no rush though, its just a curiosity thing thats been playing around in my head since last week when I got the tyre repaired. |

This isn't it, but just something I googled up- in short- every .5kg in rotating mass is the equivalent of 4kg of static weight. Therefore in my case, 13.2kg of reduced rotating mass is the equivalent of shedding 105.6kg of static vehicle weight- what's that equal in power terms....
People overlook this importance- it's clearly a good place to put your money if you want looks and a performance edge over the guy next to you, who puts on a set of 20" 20kg boots every corner.... anyway here it is. Q: Why is the weight of wheels important? A: Wheels are rotating mass/unsprung weight. Every 1 lb reduction in rotating mass is equivalent to an approximately 8 lb reduction in static weight. With lighter weight wheels, you will benefit from increased fuel savings, quicker braking, improved tire wear and better acceleration. Always ask about the weight of wheels. Your vehicle is not engineered for heavy wheels. Therefore, it will not perform well if you effectively put four anchors on it!

Im trying to decide on what rims to use on my AUII Forte in Winter White. I have come across the Speedy Spyders and liked them... but i was thinking maybe some darker rims would look nice on a white car, like the Speedy Cheetah, Envy MK II, or Mercury.
They are here if interested: http://www.speedywheels.com.au/alloy.htm Also, whether to go 17 or 18inch :S |

Very nice bucknaked, imo i think the 18" look nice too - definatelly not too small a rim for the style of car / almost like the 18"'s should of been standard on all the first of the AU's / then getting bigger from then ...bloody rubber aint cheap as u go bigger too ! ..lol.....
Nice car anyways - very clean/neat example of a classy looking AU ;) .

17 inch 5 spoke Series 1 Tickford Also consider by fitting Tickford wheels i believe you will have either none or less insurance issues and cheaper rubber on 17s as well You could possibly find them 2nd hand as it seems every body is going for 18 and 19 now |

They're ok but I reckon Falcons need an 18" rim minimum. 17's are too small. If it were me I'd prob be getting some Rodney Jane Blades or Fury's (common but look good).

If i was to order one of the package deals BOB Jane has going right now, a pair of AMG Akuza 17"s these come with some Maxxis tyres, would i be having to ask for low profile tyres therefor not being a package or do they already come as low profiles? my car is not lowered. what tyre specs should i be looking at?

Package deals should come with the right size tyres to suit the vehicle you're fitting the wheels to, so I'd imagine they'd be low profile.
