Mmm this could get a bit ugly

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/osama-...3570573&page=2

Quote:
Pakistani officials said today they're interested in studying the remains of the U.S.'s secret stealth-modified helicopter abandoned during the Navy SEAL raid of Osama bin Laden's compound, and suggested the Chinese are as well.

The U.S. has already asked the Pakistanis for the helicopter wreckage back, but one Pakistani official told ABC News the Chinese were also "very interested" in seeing the remains. Another official said, "We might let them [the Chinese] take a look."

One pakistani witness said it failed because an RPG hit it... cant discount the probability it was actually shot at.

I can just see the Chinese engineers crouded around the remains with their vernier calipers and clip boards......

In 6 months they will design and make a 'unique' chopper (that looks 99% the same) for 1/10th the price the US are making them for lol

Chinese military aviation has several new projects running which has caught the "west" by surprise. Not to mention those which have reached service already. The quality fit and finish is as good as western aircraft...

Find me a popular name brand item which isnt made in china these days?

The Yanks should have let India deal with Pakistan years ago, but as usual, it wasn't in America's interest then, bet they are kicking themselves now!!

yep....it was either hit by a simple RPG or they were still on "L" plates and couldn't steer the thing properly.

Either way...massive fail, it ain't stealth if you reveal a 20 metre fireball...

Its just payback because the yanks completed a military mission on their soil without informing them first. They were completely outraged that the yanks could just enter their territory and do this without their permission, which is understandable, but the US had no choice because if they had of told them what they were going to do there's a good bet that Osama would not have been in the compound a few minutes later.

You do realise the USA has been entering Pakistan for nearly 8yrs illegally and bombing "suspects"? I say the population is getting sick and tired of the USA playing world sherrif and that their own government/military does nothing about it.

Flip the coin and think if some foreign nation was constantly entering Australia and shooting missiles at suspected terrorists and our own government did nothing about it...

Difference is AUS would be somewhat more proactive in dealing with terrorists in the first place, so it's hardly a fair comparison.

what one side considers a terrorist the other considers a freedom fighter...

history sides with winners, hence why no american military top brass will ever be tried for war crimes.

C'mon guys, the chopper is a fascinating story and if we're lucky we may yet learn a little more about it.
We all know this talk of foreign policy / politics will get the thread locked up just like the ones before it.

On previous occasions they consulted or informed the Pakistani government about what they were doing. This time they didn't. Thats the difference.

From a news story last month...

Quote:
The Pakistani government publicly condemns the drone strikes as undermining its sovereignty, but regional experts say Islamabad privately coordinates with the U.S. government on selecting targets.

And another..
Quote:
The US is justifying excessive use of drones in NW on the plea that since Pak Army is not launching a military operation in that region, drones are the only substitute available to win war without proclaiming a new war in Pakistan. Drones have been described as the weapons of choice in fighting al-Qaeda. The US has however not been able to offer any legal justification for the attacks but covers it up by saying that these are effective means.
Not to mention over 2000 civilian deaths... collateral damage?

The Pakistani Government has always protested publically about these airstrikes...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006...qaida.pakistan

Just one of many where civilians were killed....
