Farmers won't touch this with a four foot pole if it has no clearance, can't carry near a tonne and is not diesel.

There are many, many different types of farmers with varying needs, differing farm surfaces (some are hard and flat even), different farm sizes and varying bank balances. The mushroom grower, hobby farmer, station lessee, market gardener, dairy farmer, orchardist, flower grower may all vary in scale even in the same farm type and have different needs according to farm type, scale, location etc etc.

Ego, brand loyalties and perceptions of self image will also play a role in what vehicle farmers buy. Even for farmers, purchases are not always made on rational objective grounds. Having worked in the rural finance industry in a past life, I know that sadly sometimes even farmers in financial difficult will buy a new vehicle they cannot afford and one that is actually unsuitable for their farm business needs (it's was known as the "new hat" syndromes as like a lady buying a new hat a new vehicle made them feel better); nonetheless the purchase might have been good for their physiological and mental health.

BTW the Brumby like most early 4WD Subarus had manually adjustable suspension height (albeit left at the high settle it accelerated CV joint wear) ; but most owner never read the owner's handbook to find out about it. You could adjust two bolts on the front and an anchor screw on the back (like this: https://www.autozone.com/repairguide...00c15280065cf7)

OK I stand corrected, obviously I have no idea. Maybe that's why I got out of farming. Look out Landcruiser, Hilux, Ranger etc. The Brumby reincarnate is coming for you.

Yeah you increase the ride height by what, an inch? How good was the diff clearance with those big 23“ tyres?

I do agree that most traditional broad acre wheat/sheep and station owners will prefer a diesel HiLux, Ranger etc or even a Toyota 70 Series but I am not so sure they still make up the majority of farmers in today's world. The tradie and city SUV buyer is now also a large part of this target market so your traditional broad acre farmer is probably a minority of the market as well as being a shrinking component of the wider and increasingly urban population. You and I (ex Dairy farmer) aren't the only ones that got out of farming.

Probably the best little 4X4 was the Suzuki LJ 80,had just enough power and was light enough that with 2 people on board you could nearly bounce it out of a bog.

I looked in the back of four utes in my street this morning, including mine.

Mine (the BA): Empty (no sides fitted)
Next ute (povo Lux): Couple of shovels, no cargo net
Next ute (Ranger dual cab): Laser level and tripod, esky
Next ute: Plumber’s (Lux), chockers

So - three out of four sampled utes, weren’t doing “ute stuff”.

Totally different type of vehicle though. The Maverick will be FWD and AWD, lighter duty and smaller in all dimensions. By the look of the ground clearance, it won't be much of an off-roader either.

But i'd say it will probably be LHD only anyway.

The length is deceptive. The tailgate may slope forwards, with the tent-like concealer being a total distraction from the actual profile, making it look longer than it is.

Drivetrain will be interesting, will it be fwd on just the base or all models? And engine size? Wait and see.
