WOW. Tony Abbott has risen from the back bench to boot turncoat out as Liberal leader
Happy days for those that don't want Australia to bend over for the CURRENT ETS proposal. (oh it will be back).
Hockey never had a chance due to his fence sitter status, and apparently Abbott won by 1 VOTE!

Abbott for PM?

Abbot has a bit of a monkey look about him but I applaud him for standing up to find out more about the ETS rather than just pass it straight away. I can only imagine the tanty Rudd will be having over in the US, it leaves him nothing to go to Copenhagen with.

It will be interesting to see what they do with climate change now.

God they are all monkeys, our system is so bad when we have people like this representing us.

Well I am no supporter of Abbott but his opposition to the ETS has my vote.

Oh come on, only because its the law that I have to vote.

There is not one party, nor politician that I would willingly vote for if I didn't have too. Sad state of affairs when you have to settle for the least worse.

That's how the original AU falcon design was decided.

I'm no real supporter of either party I think I voted for Michael Jackson in the last one. But mostly I am a hater of the opposition (whoever it may be at the time). All they seem to do is just go against everything the party in power tries to put in place, without any thing to back it up.
A bunch of childish playground antics.

But this time round I am actually keen to see the ETS not in place until there is further research and more facts.

Its often easy to implement a system, but hard to remove it. I'm actually surprised that the current gov actually got rid of "work choices".

It appears that the ETS has just been voted down in the senate for the final time and now gives the government a trigger for a double disolution election.

Ummm, that's actually the correct role of the opposition.

To present the alternate case to the governments to allow for debate on the pros and cons of each and arrive at legislation that is the best blend of both.

The key here is to put forward a valid argument worth debating rather than just saying "no it isnt".
Its one thing to debate, its another just to block for the sake of trying to make the current gov look bad.

I have found paying a 50 dollar fine when its voting time is worth not having a hand in ruining the country, that way i can lay blame on everyone else. pretty much at voting time for the P.M its either douche 1 or douche 2.

I also would of been worried about my job if this ets crap had of come in.

Without turning this into a politically based thread, I really think you need to have a look into and learn how governments work.

Seriously this is Australian Ford Forums, not Australian Political Chat and as such political based threads are against T&C.

That and going into detail on how Gumbyments operate is mind numbingly boring and would take too long for me to type out.

You wouldnt have to kill me, I think I'd be about ready to stab myself through the eyes if I was to sit and learn it all.
I just had a squizz at the T&C's and politics is actually not mentioned.

I've got a pretty good mind for most things, but I like to know where I have gone wrong whenever it arises.

We live with a GST we will live with a ETS.

I just paid 10% extra on a roast beef sandwich - coke.

I am not concerned about paying extra. more ticked with real polluters getting free handouts paid by us.

I reckon it fits well under the "sensitive or controversial" catch all clause :

The topic has been discussed with some intelligence and isn't just another Lib vs Lab political thread and also as stated by RG above. It may not be stated that political threads are against T&C but after the second post these threads always end up breaking one if not all the categories.

My comment was tongue in cheek because the topic IS controversial.
There are plenty of possible topics that could start and end the same way as you mention.

I wasnt taking any side, I said I hated all 'oppositions'.
So a discussion about the workings of a government, if lib vs lab garbage was kept out, would be an acceptable thread? As long as it was in 'The Bar' of course.

But anyway enough of that, back to the ETS.

I'm glad its off the table for now.
I am very pro pollution reduction, even if our polluting isnt proven to be affecting the climate, its not doing us any good either, and more efficient engines, generators and processes of all sorts can only be a good thing for future generations.
But as has been mentioned many times already, the ETS wasn't going to help any of this happen any faster.

Unfortunetly this issue is far from over and everyone needs to continue informing they're local members of parliament that this is not what australia wants.

Only people power will have a chance (if any) of preventing this blatant tax grab.

That part is easy done , but how do you convince the media to report policy instead of personal crap.

I do feel your right the media has way too much influence on a lot of peoples opinions. unfortunetly i don't think you can change the media opinion very easily as they like a bit of sacremongering if it will get ratings.

What irks me the most is the media hasn't even mentioned half the things we have mentioned in the ETS or Copenhagen threads. I can understand the US media for not doing it as they are all partly owned or controlled by huge banks, but Australia? There's no mention of the huge costs involved, the possible one government, paying back huge debts to world banks, or the fact that our carbon emission is absolutely a bee's willicker over the course of 1km.

Chris Pyne made this point on PM Agenda today, telling the presenter they (he/the media) need to focus their attention on the $120 billion ETS tax grab, rather than the opposition opposal of the bill. The lack of focus on the content of the bill by the media is astounding said Mr Pyne.

Not wrong expecially the abc there a tax payer funded station ratings is not somthing the need to be chasing .
I listen to it occasionally in the mournings and there report the same crap as the commercial stations the just talk about it longer.

Budgie smuglers is the perfect example - I dont care , i dont care if tiger woods had a 55 people orgy while he was smoking a bong . Its just all mindless gossip

There has little to no mention of the released emails or the fact that parts of europe allready have a ets and have said the wish the had not done it.
