Im happy with the GT but the XR6 is no good.. made a big error not getting the TURBO when I bought it :(

Nah I think ill keep the ute till house is built, because i am doing alot of the work myself and therefore its going to get a bit knocked around.. Plus on a cool night it feels like a BA XR6 Turbo, its just run in

I think it should be based on the base model. As the base model is the most affordable and simply states FALCON. A few changes like NICE 17-18" rims, bit lower, decals, a few G6 options and special seat door panel design cloth leather ect. would be good IMO.

Not like the EA 30th ann. That was dull as rabbit ********.

Yeah, I think your right in what they are doing.

But at the moment im picturing a XT with 17 inch wheels and a rear spoiler, with XR50 decals all over it. Im just thinking it could look a little naff.

Im actually really curious to see what it looks like, could look really good depending what treatment it has.

For me, an XT with the G6 front bar (minus the chrome) would be a great looking base model.


Come on Ford more pics! I also want to see that mocha brown colour. I always double take when I see new Audis and BMWs in that colour.

XR50 heralds Falcon milestone

Ford Australia will produce limited edition versions of the Falcon mid-year as part of the large car's 50th-anniversary commemorations.

G6E and XR6 models will gain extra standard equipment and visual tweaks including special badges in a nod to the June 28th milestone for Australia's longest-running nameplate.

The limited edition XR6 and XR6 Turbo sedans will be launched in June with a new burnt-orange metallic colour called 'sunburst', with the exteriors also featuring XR50 badges, stripe decals, chrome-ringed foglights, revised grille surround and side mirrors incorporating indicator lenses.

Both models also gain bigger, new-look alloys - 18-inch wheels for the XR6 and 19s for the Turbo.
XR50 logos feature on seats, carpet, scuff plates and instruments. The XR6's equipment list adds part-leather seat trim, premium audio and dual-zone climate control. The Turbo's standard features also broaden to include the premium audio system and dual-zone climate control, while also adding leather-detailed seat trim and reverse parking sensors.

The ute versions gain most of the upgrades with a few sedan-specific exceptions such as the indicator lens side mirrors.

The G6E 50th-anniversary models - normally aspirated and turbocharged versions - will from July be available in two new colours - a coffee-coloured metallic called 'Havana' and (in August) a charcoal metallic called 'Edge' - while the list of goodies expands to include satellite navigation and 19-inch 10-spoke alloys as standard.

The Havana and Edge metallics will be available on other Falcon models from May and August respectively.

The G6E and G6E Turbo also feature some minor exterior design tweaks including 50th anniversary badges side and rear. More 50th anniversary logos are found inside the cabins, along with upgraded trim.

Ford says pricing for the special edition Falcons will be announced closer to their launch dates. Nearly 5000 will be built, 4000 of which will be the XR6 sedan and ute models.

The company has, however, resisted the temptation to catch up to its rivals by making potentially life-saving curtain airbags standard across the range.

FORD Australia has revealed its limited-edition 50th anniversary Falcon range 50 years to the day since the first inline six-cylinder engine was produced at Ford's Geelong engine plant.

The longest running vehicle nameplate in Australian motoring history will mark its 50-year milestone on June 28, when the first (XK) Falcon rolled off its Broadmeadows assembly line exactly 50 years ago.

To celebrate, it will produce a series of six 50th anniversary Falcon sedan and ute models from the same month, featuring unique exterior and interior design cues and extra standard equipment, with pricing to be revealed closer to their launch dates.

XR 50th anniversary models will be the first to appear in showrooms from June, led by a new ‘XR50’ sedan model featuring unique ‘Dark Stealth’ colour accents on the upper and lower grilles, foglight bezels and rear bumper insert, and ‘Medium Stealth’ accents on the alloy wheels, plus high-series side mirrors with integrated indicators and G6-spec tail-lights.

Apart from XR50 badging, bespoke exterior additions for the 50th anniversary Falcon sedan will include XR50 body stripes and a ‘50th Anniversary’ fender feature, while inside there will be embroidered XR50 logos on the seats, XR50 carpet mats and door scuff plates, and 50th Anniversary instrument cluster graphics.

Other highlights include special interior trim for the centre console, instrument panel and front door spears, plus standard dual-zone climate-control, a premium audio system and high-series sports leather steering wheel.

Specific equipment for the Falcon XR6 50th Anniversary will include new partial leather seat trim and 18-inch XR alloy wheels with the detail accent treatment, while the Falcon XR6 Turbo 50th Anniversary receives new leather-detailed seat trim, rear parking sensors and 19-inch XR alloy wheels with full colour accent treatment.

The Falcon XR 50th Anniversary Ute will come with the same specifications as the sedan, minus sedan-specific additions.

Ford’s G Series 50th Anniversary models will also feature unique accent colour treatments with ‘Medium Stealth’ touches on the upper and lower grilles and rear bumper insert, plus ‘Light Stealth’ accents on the foglight bezels and alloy wheels.

Anniversary features unique to G Series models, which will follow from July, include new leather detailed seat trim with embroidered ‘50th Anniversary’ logos, a 50th Anniversary badge, the fender feature, carpet floor mats and special interior trim on the centre console, instrument panel and front door spears.

Extra 50-year G Series standard features will include a satellite-navigation system with Suna Traffic Channel and G Series 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with detailed accent treatment.

Finally, a new ‘Sunburst’ metallic orange hero paint colour for XR models will be introduced in conjunction with the release of the Falcon 50th Anniversary range, while two new prestige paint colours will become available on 50th anniversary G Series models.

They include ‘Havana’, which arrives in May and is described as “a soft neutral mocha metallic with smoky brown graduated hues and a dark, deeper bronze highlight” and ‘Edge’, which will be available from August and is said to be a “dark charcoal with a hint of blue that features a dark, sparkling luxury metallic highlight”.

“The Falcon's long and distinguished heritage is unmatched by any other car in the history of Australian motoring,” said Ford Australia marketing, sales and service vice-president Beth Donovan.

“Fifty years of continuity in any industry is a remarkable achievement, but it's especially rare in a dynamic field like the car industry.

“Recommended pricing for the Falcon 50th anniversary range will be announced closer to the on sale date, but as with previous limited-edition models, customers can expect these special vehicles to come with some equally special pricing that will deliver exceptional value for money,” said Ms Donovan.

Earlier this month Ford revealed a raft of changes for its more fuel-efficient Euro 4 emissions-compliant 2010 Falcon range, which enters production in May.

As we reported exclusively a day earlier, two locally developed supercharged versions of the Ford Motor Company’s new 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ V8 will appear under the bonnets of Ford’s upgraded XR8 and FPV models later this year.

Ford Australia’s April 29 reveal of the 50th anniversary Falcons comes exactly 50 years since the company’s first inline six was produced. The 1960 XK Falcon’s 144 cubic-inch (2.4-litre) two-valve pushrod engine developed a 67kW and 187Nm of torque – around the same as a modern 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine.

It is a far cry from the Falcon’s current 4.0-litre inline six, which retains a cast-iron cylinder block but produces 195kW/391Nm and features double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, dual independent variable camshaft timing (DI-VCT) and a dual-mode split plenum composite intake manifold.

Ford points out that while the XK’s 2.4-litre straight six was start-of-the-art in its day, the current Falcon engine develops almost three times the power and more than twice the peak torque, while being significantly more fuel efficient despite a 50 per cent increase in total vehicle mass.

Of course, the latest Falcon comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the original was available with either a three-speed manual or two-speed auto.

Why should backseat passengers miss out on the benefit of curtain airbags...? Oh thats right, ANCAP only measures front seat occupant safety and a snappy '5 star rating' is the only thing Ford cares about rather than actual occupant safety.

That's a fair special. I love how it's spread accross the range, much better than just one model. Love to see it extend to the V8, then the four great engines have a voice in the 50th model (I6, LPG, I6T & 5.0 V8). Love the unique alloys, not even FPV got revised rims with FG! Nice touch that makes this model stand out, overall impressed with what it offers in the way of kit. Holy hell it's brimming with it! The humble Falcon, about to turn 50. I have shivers down my spine. Makes me want to sell my Fiesta and get a 50th Falcon!

As for the curtain airbags, I too agree they should be standard. What is stupid though is these 'journalists' never mention that the Falcon is a safer car than the Commodore, Aurion or Camry without this. My Fiesta has the side airbags, but no curtains but it wasn't a make or break descision. Be interesting to see how many people option them, they are only something like $300, but most 2nd mand models don't have them. Go figure. Ford seem to be on the ball here...

If that was in reference to my comments, I said I love how they spread it accross the range as apposed to doing one special. Never said they spread it accross the entire range, which I later say should include a V8 version to truly celebrate the Falcon. Offering the XR6, XR6 Turbo, G6E and a G6E model with the 270 Turbo is a mighty good effort, and much better than just one SR special based on a povo pack XT. When I think Falcon, I think premium sports sedan, I no longer think yellow taxi, and Ford have represented this shift well in these special models IMHO.
