Have you tried a different battery? And I can't recommend changing the coilpack enough.

mine was starting but wouldn't idle without a bootful of throttle, read on here somewhere that the inlet manifold works loose and sucks in air till there's enough expansion from heat to seal it. i checked mine and EVERY manifold bolt was a good 3/4 turn loose. tightened it up and it fixed my problem completely. try that before spending any more cash.
cheers, paul.

I had the same problem with mine. Definately check the manifold bolts. Had me stumped and my mechanic had it fixed in a couple of hours. How do these things come loose???????

Good call there... Some were loose. But not enough to be the problem.
Ive just been to supercheap and a1 auto but no coil packs avaliable @$139.00. Just put in a new set of plugs and had the battery disconected overnight but cant test drive till tomorrow. Russell.

hfcrussell I just replaced my coilpack today. Took about an hour. Got a genuine one for $55 from eBay.
It's a ***** of a job I'll tell you that for nothing. But it drives like a new car, except that the motor was still jumping around a bit at idle in gear. I've sorted that out by increasing the base idle on the throttle body, that's doing the trick. Oh and supercheap don't stock ANYTHING to suit AU. Retards. |

This car still takes about 1-2 minutes to start from cold.
It now drives heaps better through the rev range, with no hesitation or missing. I have the air box out so i could look for loose spark last night but there was nothing.

Hey mate it was a private seller not a shop link you can try asking if they have another if you want.
russell I am in Belmont you can come and grab my old coilpack if you want, it still works fine it's just getting a little old (155,000 k's). Might be useful to confirm your problem. |

Thanks Twisted and Bodes-sh
Today I tightened the Intake Manifold bolts. Some went up a little, but imo not enough to make a difference. I am suffering similar issues to hfcrussell. Done plugs, leads, fuel filter and a gauze in the tank and at manifold. Had Carbon clean done. Car sat a Ford Dealership for two days and all they found was an inactive Coil Pack failure. They said it is not the cause, I'm not sure now. This is where I am going now. Keep trying things, and we will work it out, 4 sure. Cheers, Mike Edit, Just purchased the one you linked Bodes-sh, Thanks

When the engine is running how much combustion is coming out the exhaust? Also does it feel excessively hot? Undo the engine pipe at the exhaust manifold when it's cold then see how it starts. Another thing worth a try is to disconnect the map sensor, a faulty sensor will cause running issues but a disonnected sensor may cause it to run a default mode and see how it starts.

Ive disconnected the O2 sensor to try and fault find but theres no noticable difference in starting or running. Should there be?????
I noteced this morning on cold start that once the car did start it was very rich smell so i think i have eliminated fuel from the problem. I cant block my exhaust because there is an exhaust leak some where..... BTW which one is the MAP sensor?? Russell.

Car will run fairly well with O2 sensor disconnected, it's only used for trimming injector on time.
By disconnecting the exhaust it eliminates a blocked muffler or cat converter. An exhaust leak is no indication of free flowing, it could be corroded internally and have a collapsed baffle, that why I asked how hot the exhaust gasses are. Map sensor is located on inlet manifold under the throttle body, it will be difficult to disconnect. |

They were too embarrassed at there inability to find the drama to charge me. I was crapping when it came 'pay up' time, after two days, turns out, very surprised. The mechanic said, when cold, my car goes harder than any AU HP he's driven? Runs shite when warm! Does yours seem to hesitate when taking off with more throttle applied, and get going when you lift to a lesser throttle percentage. Ford replaced my Throttle Body under wtty. I think the problems began about then, and got progressively worse?? : Cheers, Mike

OK. I picked up a spare coil pack of TwistedEL (thanks Graeme) but still the same.
MNM96 my car seem oppisite to yours, its only a pig cold. Once its hot its fine. The best way to start this car is to crack the throttle slightly but it still takes time for it to start. Russell.

Sounds like there might be an issue with the IAC motor, stuck shut perhaps? Have you had this checked? Also could be an out of range TPS, I think the best approach for you would be to have someone retrieve codes from it if it has any.

Yes JC,
I did go back to the first page to see who was right. Still seems unusual to not have fuel to start but enought to fling the engine to 3-4000 rpm when running..... me no comprehende....
