^ The Chifley hotel in Doveton had a good restaurant, my cousin was running the kitchen there at one stage.

Interesting place for a 4 star hotel, had a mix of high flying company men staying there and bogans from the surrounding area, made it hard to make the menu to suit the people staying at the hotel vs people from the surrounding area as the people from the area saw it as a pub rather than a high end restaurant where the clients can justify spending $60 on a steak.

That's a good hotel! We were actually looking at getting married there at one stage - it was out of our price range though. We lived in Eumemmering for a year before moving to Doveton.

The locals refer to Power Road as the "Doveton Scenic Drive".

Look at popular shows in the 1970s, out of the US "All in the Family" (quote: "You are the laziest white man I ever met"), out of the UK "Love Thy Neighbour" ("Honky", "Snowflake", "Jungle Bunny"), "Steptoe and Son" and Benny Hill.

None of them would get an airing as new shows now with the racial commentary and insults that were offered.

These days any jokes around sexual preference or colour or religion are deemed unacceptable (despite some being the funniest you have ever heard) while the language filter is almost irrelevant and anything goes in almost any circumstance.

I think the purpose of removing the 'offensive' aspects of these laws has nothing to do with wanting to go back to the 'naughtiness' of the past, but is an attempt to redress the situation whereby you can get into racist, sexist, homophobic trouble because you dare to question certain things about these issues. Debate has been well and truly stifled by such 'progressive' laws...

And I just love the way that this issue is portrayed, that only whites can be racist!

Who can forget Wogs Out Of Work with Nick Giannopoulos, who was also in the sitcom Acropolis now.
They had an Aussie kitchen hand/waiter who they called Skip.

I’m pretty sure that “Dago X press” was more of a nickname. Their trading name is COT, Canberra Overnight Transport.
